Montenegro: Bay of Kotor Day Trip from Dubrovnik

Overview

Escape the bustling city and discover another Balkan highlight on a day trip to Montenegro’s Bay on Kotor from Dubrovnik. Travel to the distance with ease with round-trip transfer from your Dubrovnik hotel, and discover the scenic coastline’s history and culture with stops in Kotor and Perast. Benefit from an included walking tour of Kotor’s landmarks, as well as free time to explore at your own pace.

What to Expect

Discover one of the most picturesque bays of the world! Located just a hop away from Dubrovnik, Montenegro has it all. The interesting thing about this small country is that it is divided into areas that historically had their own distinct cultural identity. During this trip you are going to explore one of the most notable parts of the country - the splendid Bay of Kotor region which is widely known for being "the southernmost fjord of Europe".

The modern day Bay of Kotor enjoys the real abundance of natural's beauty: turquoise green water, rocky coast backed up by steep rugged cliffs and rich colorful vegetation that enhances the regions unique attitude.

The town of Kotor is indisputably the heart of the bay where at least half of the bay's population live. It is a vibrant tourist spot for cruisers as well. The area of what is now the Bay of Kotor, also known locally as Boka Kotorska, used to be a part of Venice and is literally bursting with noticeable historical sites. The town of Kotor with its glorious history is home to many elegant old buildings, palaces, Catholic as well as Orthodox churches, the Romanesque Cathedral of St. Tryphon, and of course the impressive city walls from the 14th century. You will also find pockets of colorful souvenir shops, and if you are really going to get a feel for the social life of Kotor do not miss numerous cozy cafes where both locals and tourists like to enjoy themselves.

The picturesque coastal road will take you from Kotor all the way to Perast, an ancient settlement that stretches just below the main highway. Small, but absolutely charming, rich in Venice-like architecture including Baroque palaces and 16 churches. Two tiny islets overlook the town of Perast: St. George with its 12th century Benedictine monastery and the man-made island of Our Lady of the Rocks, where you can easily hop over by a small boat. The only building on this artificial island is an amazing church from the 17th century - one of the best examples of the regional's immortal elegance.

In conclusion this charming region protected by UNESCO owns a whole set of distinct features that makes it unique and quite recognizable among experienced travelers.
