- Pathfinder5758910 contributionsAn incredible cycling holiday. What an incredible experience. I am taking home many fabulous memories. Deyan planned and arranged a perfect peddle exploring part of the Black Sea coast and the Danube river. He and his colleagues were so knowledgable, supportive and ensured the groups wants were met. They made it work so we could swim in the sea. The bikes were good, hotels fabulous, food yummy, countryside awesome.Written 15 September 2024

We did the half day tour of the coastline around Varna and enjoyed some beautiful views and scenery. Being only “fair weather” cyclists of moderate fitness we were a little worried that we’d be up the challenge but the electric bicycles provided by Plateau made light work of the hill climb sections. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who has even a passing interest in cycling and is looking to explore the Bulgarian countryside.

I took a bike trip with Diane, and it was the best experience of the trip to Varna.
The guide Diane is a very kind and friendly guy, and it's fun to travel with him.
We preferred to go to the hills around Varna.
Diane explained a lot to me about the history of Bulgaria, which was very interesting and enriching.
We were in picturesque villages, we visited an ancient abandoned church half underground, and we went up to an impressive fortress.
We ate a traditional and very tasty lunch which was a special experience.
In total, we rode about 40 km and it was really fun.
The guide took care of all safety matters, from checking the weather forecast, to adjusting the nature of the trip to our abilities, and safety procedures for traveling on the road.
I highly, highly recommend this tour - you will not be disappointed

We had a very nice bike tour. Deyan took us to visit the areas around the city of Varna, in the forest, on the shore, on the cliff, we were even taken to a hidden beach where there were only locals and it was phenomenal. We had a great experience thanks to our guide Deyan. I hope to see you again soon, but until then good luck and health.

I very rarely leave reviews but I thought this experience was worth writing about!
Deyan the guide was just fantastic, we exchanged a couple of emails to establish what I was after and my experience. He tailored the tour to suit. He turned up to pick me up early and the whole feel was very relaxed. I’m a solo traveller and fairly confident but I would have never explored areas like this! The terrain was varied and there was plenty of information on hand.
I would throughly recommend doing this tour as a group or on your own!

This was an awesome trip. Was my first biking adventure. The owner/guide was very attentive and very well educated on the history of Bulgaria and sights. Definitely recommend an e-bike unless you have bike experience uphill. Everything was planned out from the daily route to hotels and meals. I felt we had a great balance between the time biking and sight seeing. The hotels were very nice accommodations. Weather was perfect for our May 2024 trip. Highly recommend Plateau Cycling/Biketours.com.

He took us on a relaxing tour over the country side. We saw typical Bulgarian villages, a mini tour of a beautiful Bulgarian church. During the ride the guide provided local history, refreshments and was overall great.

In five days we saw a varied section of the beautiful Bulgarian countryside. Routes on paved and unpaved roads. Deyan was knowledgeable and happy to fill any request. The routes were organized thoughtfully so that they would be pleasant to ride. The accommodation was very nice. Highly recommended.

I booked 2 days (1.5 days cycling / 0.5 day kayaking). Deyan organised the whole trip. He's very trustworthy and a really likeable guy. This trip exceeded my expectations. He took me to places that were just lovely and off the beaten track. We cycled through picturesque dirt roads, b roads, and through villages and towns. We stopped at local attractions and ate fruit along the way. Deyan makes sure you are alright the whole time while giving you freedom to cycle as you like....and for many hours of the day. It's reasonable priced too. I would have loved to cycle for more days with this company :)

A group of 60 somethings, we do an overseas cycle tour every year. We used to take our own bikes but Ryan Air and Easy Jet have been hiking up the cost, so for the last few years we have hired bikes locally.
We decided on Bulgaria to escape the strong Euro and found Plateau Cycling on the internet. We usually plan our own route and book our own hotels etc.
I explained to Deyan the kind of cycling we like, the distances, and the climbs. He proposed a circular route taking in loads of interesting sites and countryside, and even organised a wine tasting. (It was fab!). We did it 'self guided', and he provided us with a Garmin sat nav with the route preloaded. Without it, we would have been in trouble. Not many locals outside Varna speak English and road signage is not great when you are off the main roads. He remained as back up if we needed anything. We have a couple of tumbles, but nothing drastic and it was reassuring that he was available if we needed him.
Deyan organised hotels for us and prearranged lunch stops because it was not high season and many places would not normally be open. The hotels and restaurants were all fine although language was a challenge sometimes.
The 5 days were exactly what we would have organised ourselves with the routes and distances challenging but rewarding. The bikes were good and exactly what we expected. (I can't say that about previous years!)
I have no hesitation in recommending Deyan and Plateau Cycling if you want to explore Bulgaria by bike.

Deyan looked after us for the whole day. We did a 42 mile ride which was amazing.
His historical knowledge of the country is superb and we learnt a lot about Bulgaria along the route.
We had lunch in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant that was very good indeed.
Not only is Deyan a great guide, he is also a great fun guy to cycle with. Plus he know all the good coffee stops!!!!
Thanks Deyan - 100% recommend Detyan and Plateau Cycling.

Periode 7-16 sept 2019. Alvast bedankt ! ReyntjeDevos.
