Fantastic cooking class with Chef Ky
Feb 2020 • Solo
The class started with a visit to the morning market in Luang Prabang to purchase some ingredients. Ky was very knowledgeable. Got to taste some snacks at the market. Returned for breakfast. The class started thereafter. Lovely clean kitchen. Loads of fun preparing 4 dishes. Steamed mushrooms, lemongrass stuffed chicken, pork curry and fresh spring rolls. Very interactive class with some new skills learnt. As I had just had breakfast and was staying at the hotel, Ky arranged for my dishes to be served as a late lunch. The recipes on a usb was a lovely touch. Would highly recommend this cooking class. Delicious food.

Marketing and cooking with Chef Naly at Sofitel in Luang Prabang was one of the highlights of our stay in Laos.
Dec 2019
The dishes we cooked were authentic and tasted amazing! 3 members of our guest team of 6 did not eat chicken, so the chicken curry was replaced by fish curry. There was more than enough food for every one, refreshing, since some of the lunches provided at other restaurants did not. The staff was responsive to our requests, including giving us change in USD for bigger bills. Chef Naly made sure that each member of our group got a chance to be "hands on". She modeled what actions she wanted us to take in the kitchen that was spacious, clean, well supplied, plenty of light. The food and herbs were fresh and smelled fabulous, and tasted authentic!

Dear rhadden2017, The cooking class is truly one in the bucket list if you're visiting Luang Prabang where they give you information about culture, tradition and influences from neighboring countries. Your review is truly amazing however please let us know what we could improve more to get a 5/5 next time. Thanks again Best regards, Jed & Team h9669@sofitel.com

Cooking with Chef Naly
Spent a wonderful morning learning, chatting and cooking with Chef Naly. I had booked a group experience but fortunately for me, no other person had signed up on the same day, so I had a one on one private session. It was a great deal that included a delicious breakfast amidst lush surroundings, a filling lunch of what I had cooked, and even had a takeaway bag as there was just too much food for me to finish. I had dinner covered! Definitely a morning well spent!

Cooking class with luxury hotel Master Chef - truly a cultural immersion not to be missed!
Oct 2019
Our first cooking class ever, and we were extremely delighted with the experience. Thank you so much Master Chef John for showing us the morning market, which we learned a lot about different types of rice, herbs and other local products.

The cooking session was very interactive, many cooking tips & Lao food culture were shared and Chef John is very patient and knowledgeable. This is the difference for having a cooking class at a 5-star hotel, where you can be sure of the quality and food standard.

We had lunch with the 4-course meal we made and were served with dessert that we did not make, lunch was very sumptuous, and best part is the surprise gift of special USB memory stick with all the recipes and additional recipes. Highly recommended!

Great intro to Lao Foods
Sep 2019 • Couples
Cooking experience started with a trip to the local market. Always fun to see how locals shopped for daily needs.

Chef Chi thought us 4 dishes. Trainees assisted in cutting n preparing ingredients n wrapping. Fresh spring rolls, lemon grass chicken ball, red curry chicken n egg plant, mushrooms, herbs wrapped in banana leaves.

Rounding up the class was the 4 course set lunch.. great fun great value

Lots of inclusions and very friendly staff!
Sep 2019 • Friends
The class includes transportation and tour of the morning market, breakfast at the Sofitel, preparing 4 dishes and eating them after.

The staff is very friendly, specially our teacher Naly. However, my only feedback is that their English could be better, it was a bit hard to understand.

I definitely recommend it !

Fun morning to learn an important part of Lao culture... its food
Jun 2019 • Solo
This was a really fun and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend it!! Chef John is a lot of fun and is easy to ask questions to.

We start with a trip to the morning market where Chef John shows us the different vegetables and delicacies (but while he shows us some of the weirder Fear Factor stuff, they’re not any of the ingredients we need).

Then, we have about an hour and a half, give or take, for an AMAZING buffet breakfast at Sofitel. The hotel is the former governor’s residence with extensive grounds and an amazing breakfast... the breakfast alone, I felt, paid for my ticket. The biggest challenge is not to eat too much and to save room for the cooking and the lunch.

Then, we finally get to cook... in a spacious, beautiful kitchen. It’s work but it’s a lot of fun!! And, after everything is ready, we eat it all together back in the Sofitel restaurant.

I can say I’ve learned a lot from this experience... and, practically speaking, there are a couple of recipes that I can possibly even try at home. I highly recommend this!!

Feb 2019 • Solo
I had several cooking classes in Luang Prabang and can compare. At Sofitel one has an amazing breakfast before the class starts. Very friendly personnel assists and answers all the questions. We were just three people to learn cooking. Everyone had his own cooking stand. The kitchen is big and clean. Highly recommend!
