- Edipreta0 contributionsAmazing ExperienceExtremely well done. This lady knows what she’s doing. We drove to this seemingly out-of-the-way location. And were met by our guide. She showed us around her garden, explaining what the plants were ,then proceeded to take us on a tour of the buildings explaining each one’s purpose along with their Personal temple area. Then we got down to business. We prepared our food and had a 6 course meal. Everything was fresh annd organic. Amazing tastes. Many Laura had as we prepared the food. You forget how much work there is in cooking when you buy things from grocery store. That being said, the meal was exceptional and delicious. Our guide engage us in conversation and explained local customs and the foods. Absolutely worth it. As a matter of fact, it was too inexpensive. Even with a little additional money for a driver. Which was minimal. Thank you for an awesome experience.Written 21 January 2025
- FarAway7602080 contributionsVery enjoyable class! We had a great time doing this cooking class! The set-up and facilities were excellent and the food we made was delicious. It's also amazing that most of the ingredients we used were from Putu's own garden. We had one Vegetarian in the Group and the menu was adjusted to accommodate for that. Putu was a great host and made the whole process very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this class!Written 20 January 2025
- Robbie R0 contributionsFantasticHighly, highly recommended. Not only did we cook a delicious meal, we learned a lot about Indonesian culture. Our host felt like what Ann of Green Gables would call a kindred spirit.Written 14 January 2025

- MangoMommas0 contributionsA fun, energetic celebration of Balinese food and cultureWe've traveled the world, taking a good number of cooking classes in different countries. This class was by far the best we've experienced! We learned so much about their cooperative farming effort, and we even harvested some of our ingredients! Our team of instructors and support folks were very enthusiastic! They were delightful and affirming of everyone in our group at every stage of the meal prep! This was a fun and energetic celebration of Balinese food and culture!Written 9 January 2025

- J4141KGlindseyp0 contributionsAmazing private cooking experience. We had the most incredible experience with Putu in her family home. We booked a private cooking experience for myself, spouse and two daughters. We were staying in Ubud and Putu and her husband Pasta came to get us to take us back to our class in their outdoor kitchen on the edge of their garden. The cooking experience was something we will never forget. The meal was delicious, her instructions were so easy to follow and Putu along with her cousin were there guiding us the whole time. Most of the ingredients came from their garden / farm which we got a chance to walk around before starting out lesson. As an added bonus Putu also showed us around her family temple and houses which was amazing to see a traditional Balinese home. I would highly recommend this beautiful experience and thank Putu and pasta for welcoming us in their home. With gratitude LindseyWritten 5 January 2025
- brontet9930 contributionsA wonderful experience! This cooking class with Putu was an amazing experience, and will definitely be a highlight of our trip. Putu and her family are so welcoming, and made us feel at ease from the start. Putu kindly welcomed us into her home and explained her family’s traditional everyday practices in the home, and showed us her garden where she grows all of her own produce. She then lead us through cooking 5 delicious traditional Balinese meals, explaining the ingredients and each step as we went along. We had so much fun and would definitely recommend!Written 4 January 2025
- Charley_Kim0 contributionsAmazing and authentic Balinese cooking experience!I cannot recommend this class enough! We learned so much about Putu’s village, their way of life, and all the rituals they perform every day. We had a seamless pick up from our hotel and visited Putu’s home and garden, cooked 5 traditional Balinese dishes, and even got to take our leftovers home. Everything was delicious and thoughtfully curated. We will cherish the memories we made in this class with Putu and her husband, Pasta, was so kind and welcoming. Next time we visit Bali, we will definitely return!Written 2 January 2025
- lauracD7590RI0 contributionsAmazing experience!Putu and her family were incredibly welcoming, warm, and happy to share their culture and part of their home. Putu herself is amazing—knowledgeable, passionate, and dedicated to ensuring you have a wonderful time while learning to cook Balinese food. She is thorough in her teaching, demonstrating each step and guiding you through the entire process. Her home is beautiful, with a stunning garden filled with the freshest produce, perfect for cooking. The class began with a refreshing treat of fresh coconut and seasonal fruit—a great way to start the day. The pickup and dropoff service (from our stay in Ubud) was seamless and comfortable. The cooking class takes place outdoors under a covered area, with plenty of fans and hydration to keep cool while you cook. The food was absolutely delicious, as you’d expect when working with gorgeous ingredients, a woodfired stove, and an incredible teacher. Highly recommend this experience!Written 29 December 2024
- burlis0 contributionsA truly wonderful experienceMy partner and I had a delightful morning with our host, Putu, at her cooking experience. The market visit was well worth while, where Putu showed us many of the local foods and explained how they are used in Indonesian cooking. She even brought us some freshly prepared food and fruit at the market for us to sample. At her home we had a wonderful time visiting her family temple and garden, and of course preparing a variety of Indonesian dishes that we later feasted on until we could eat no more. Her outdoor covered cooking area is clean and spacious and efficiently run. Putu is very knowledgeable and friendly, answered all our questions and gently guided us through the food preparation and cooking processes. We highly recommend this cooking adventure with Putu and her family.Written 27 December 2024
- 115reneee0 contributionsDelicious, fun, interactive, kid-friendly experienceThis experience was amazing and very much exceeded our expectations. The hosts could not have been nicer and were so kind and patient with our kids, the farm was beautiful, the food was delicious, and it was such a fun and interactive experience. It was so interesting learning about the food and culture. Our kids (ages 8 and 9) participated in every step and absolutely loved it. They both wanted me to rate this a 10 out of 5 stars and asked if they could do it again. We would highly recommend this activity!!Written 27 December 2024
- LoveTravel5425960 contributionsA Heartwarming Adventure! Highly recommendedI had the most incredible experience at an authentic cooking class in Ubud, Bali! Led by an absolutely fabulous woman, this class was the perfect blend of fun, and culture. From using fresh ingredients from the family’s garden to making traditional Balinese recipes, everything was thoughtfully curated. Her passion for cooking and sharing her heritage was truly inspiring, and her warmth made us feel welcome. The flavors were out of this world, and we left with a full heart. If you're in Bali, this is a must-do experience!Written 26 December 2024
- kaulena20240 contributionsGreat experience! The host (Putu) and her husband picked us up from our Villa. Along the way Putu does a fantastic job of creating conversation and telling you more about Ubud. Once arriving to her home, she will show you her garden and the different temples and what they mean. From there you will see more of her garden. Before cooking you will try several fruits from the garden that tastes good. You will have a great privilege of cooking 3 dishes. Before cooking you will see all of the ingredients. As you are cooking you will be given great explanations in detail. After the cooking is complete you will eat all of the cooked food with a beer. If you are looking to learn and cook traditional food, this is something you want to book and experience.Written 23 December 2024

Dewa was a wonderful host. We were a group of 11, ranging from 4 years old to 72 and all of us had a great time. Dewa was so talented at meeting everyone's needs and interests. After an interesting and informative car ride we walked through the area where Dewa lives. Dewa would stop to explain the history of his family's move to the area as well as the philospohy with which they care for the property and the community. He spoke of good and not so good, (purposely not using the term bad) using the dutch colonial period as an example. We would all perhaps benefit from following this balanced approach to life. The family compound was peaceful and beautiful. Dewa took time to talk about the traditions that his family still follows. The cooking class was equally good, we made traditional indonesian foods but different (and better!) than what is found in the Warangs in the area. Many of the ingredients came from Dewa's garden. Dewa gave the younger children tasks that they enjoyed and they worked very happily, the adults worked but also had time to socialize. Dewa and his family did most of the actual cooking in the outdoor kitchen. We sat down at a large table surrounded by lush greenery to enjoy the meal. I would highly recommend this class, it was as many other reviewers commented one of the highlights of our trip!

We had a cooking class with Dewa. It was a fantastic experience - just as explained by all the previous reviews.
We were picked up from Ubud and his driver was very friendly and polite. Before cooking Dewa walked with us through a beautiful countryside village and we visited the local community graveyard and his organic garden. While walking he explained to us how his family and the people in his village live in harmony with the natural environment. Dewa was a fun and at the same time very wise and spiritual person. We learnt so much from him. So much traditional wisdom he told us on the day made us think about our life.
The cooking class was great fun. We cooked traditional Balinese food and all of the dishes were so yummy. I think the food we cooked and ate was the best food we ate in Bali. We are looking forward to making the same set of food at home.
It was great to be at Dewa's family home. We got to see a traditional Balinese house and kitchen and learn about the culture from a local person. The kitchen was very clean and tidy. Not only the ingredients but also all the cooking equipment were natural and beautiful - lots of banana leaves and bamboo sticks (nothing was plastic or commercially produced). His helpers were all local people and everyone was very friendly and always smiling.
At the end of the cooking class we felt full in our stomach and very warm in our heart. It is highly recommended for everyone who visits Bali.

Dewa's cooking class is an absolute must do during your stay in Ubud. More than just a cooking class, it is a very important lesson in Balinese culture and religion away from the bustling streets and markets of Ubud town. Dewa's village and home are peaceful havens. And Dewa himself is a wise, softly spoken man whose enthusiasm for nature and looking after the environment is so heat warming. My family have definitely taken a lot of his wisdom back to Australia with us. No longer are things "bad", just "not so good".
The cooking class was extremely well organised and the food we made was divine!
Such a huge highlight of our trip. Please do it, you certainly will come away with a changed outlook on life!

From beginning to end this was an incredible day. We were picked up by our guide Dewa from our agreed spot. Dewa was punctual and helpful. It was raining heavily so he informed us that the garden tour wouldn’t be possible in such heavy rain ( we also have our 87 year old grandfather/ father traveling with us ), but he says he would guide us while driving. Well, this was the most informative, respectful, culturally knowledgeable and deeply spiritual history lesson we’ve ever had. Our family has been to Bali many times but we learnt so much on the ride to Dewa’s home. It was so enriching and enlightening. Once we arrived at Dewa’s home we were shown around and had the cultural significance of his home explained, once again fascinating.
Then it was time for the cooking!! We were all assigned jobs to do for our lunch, chopping, smelling ingredients, squeezing greens for our salad and more.
To say this lunch was tasty is an understatement. The lunch was DEVINE!! We were all so happy and felt so privileged to have spent the day with Dewa and the cooking class. Highly highly recommend ☺️

This was an absolutely amazing experience. We were picked up from our hotel and our driver / head chef was our tour guide. He gave us a step by step explanation of everything we were seeing and explaining why things were they way they are. Very insightful for those who have never spent much time in Bali
We arrived on the outskirts of his village and went for a 5 minute walk through the jungle and arrived at a garden where he picked some veggies and other items we would use for cooking.
As we walked to our guide's actual home, along the way he explained how his village and their society work and why they do things certain things in certain ways,
The actual setting for the cooking is gorgeous. A very well maintained home with a large open kitchen. Absolutely perfect for a family or friends to do some cooking. We did this with our 10 and 7 year olds and it was lots of fun. They did well to keep the kids involved and interested. The food we actually made was absolutely delicious and they provide you with a pen and book to write down the recipes.
It lasted from roughly 9am to 1pm and I would recommend this activity to anyone who wants to get off the hotel and try something a bit more cultural.

Let me just say all the 5 star reviews are spot on!!! Our host, Dewa, is a very kind man and really shared with us how the Balinese people live, their culture, their values, and their beliefs. What a great immersion into the local culture! I also really enjoyed the walk through his village, the rice field, and smelling the cinnamon and lemongrass that was just growing in the village.
Dewa and his family live in a traditional Balinese home that really feels like a small temple. it feels so tranquil there. My kids (ages 11 and 8), my wife, and I really enjoyed our hands-on cooking lesson! We got a chance to write down all the recipes and hope to recreate them at home. We ended up having 5 different dishes to go with Balinese rice and a banana fritters dessert. This is probably the best Balinese meal we had on the whole island.

I can hardly put into words how incredible this experience was. Dewa began by guiding us through his village describing the ins & outs of their culture- the food, the agriculture, the history, the spiritualism. Their perspective on life is incredible & something we will hold for the rest of our lives. Then, he welcomed us into his beautiful home where we met his gracious family, learned about the ingredients, & cooked the most wonderful meal. Not only did they gift us with delicious & healthy food, they also provided a beautiful book of recipes to take home. Truly remarkable people.
This was so much more than a cooking class, it was an experience we’ll cherish forever. Thank you, Dewa.

What an experience!! My sister and I did this cooking class and it was such an amazing experience. Dewa picked us up from where we were staying and first we got a tour around his village. He told us about the history and how the village worked. Then he invited us into his home where we cooked. The food was delicious! I would 100% recommend to book this, you will not only cook but you will be taken into the lives of the locals.

Putu and her family were incredibly welcoming and it was a privilege to be shown around her family home, her beautiful garden with home-grown vegetables and spices. Myself and my husband learnt how to cook Balinese dishes in a traditional outdoor kitchen with Putu talking us through the ingredients and methods with such enthusiasm and fun. We truly enjoyed our experience and would recommend it to anyone wanting an authentic cooking class experience in Ubud.

Hello Dewa,
I am interested in booking but have a few questions... we will be in nua dusa ... how far away are you based ?
We would be myself and my husband and my two daughters aged 14 and 8, I’m not sure the little one would really be cooking but she would want to ‘help ‘ ! What would the price be ?
Lastly and most importantly my eldest daughter is allergic to peanuts - do you use peanuts? Are there a lot of peanuts in Balinese cooking?
Kind regards and have a great day
