- W7687VDrafaelt00Sensory overload on the farm!I can't underscore enough the uniqueness of this Travelling Spoon experience, being it is within the context of a working farm. The setting really helped us dive 'one more click' further upstream into the local food culture, than even other typical TS experiences. Kadek and his cohort Apung were so gracious with their knowledge & hospitality; we learned much not just about the ingredients & food we were handling, but about the Balinese culture that cultivates all of it. The food itself was fun and delicious. The particular highlights for me was assembling the Bumbu Bali (the base that went into multiple dishes), and shaping...then grilling and devouring... the Sate Lilit; using tuna in this case. The organic farm team have a wonderful mission, and they obviously enjoy sharing their jewel with curious & hungry visitors like us. I wish them and future TSers in Bali a future of many more rewarding encounters!
- 724chantelg00Over chargedDont go through these guys as you will be ripped off almost 3 x the price as others.Expect to pay around $50-$55 AUD for this not $120-130 like these guys charge. The tour itself is fantastic and its a shame they dont receive all of these funds.
- Camper39568800Fantastic Cooking Class Traditional Balinese Food🌟🌟🌟We would highly recommend this cooking class. 4 family members did Class 1. We spent a fun few hours learning how to make some wonderful Indonesian food. The Chef, Santika, is so knowledgable and helpful and is obviously passionate about food preparation. His whole team work hard to make sure the class runs very smoothly. Enjoying the food after the class was really wonderful. Can't wait to try the recipes once we are home again.
- sarforrest00Don't use Travelling Spoon- very expensive!!Do not book with Travelling Spoon. You will twice as much for this tour!! Find another tour operator!!! I paid $126AUD while other people on same tour paid $56AUD for same experience. Very unhappy Tour itself was great
- Alex27800Fabulous evening! This cooking class was absolutely wonderful one of the highlights of our whole trip to Bali! Seeing the local village and how people live was great, the food was amazing and the whole experience was great fun. Would really highly recommend!
- kendallw59800Had an amazing time learning about local culture! We had an amazing time with Dewa. What an incredible experience! We got to learn all about local culture and cook authentic food with Dewa and his family.
- Brooke F00Fabulous FoodThis was my family’s favorite activity on our Bali Vacation! We had 8 guests from 12 - 62 years old. Everyone learned something and had a wonderful time. Puta and her family were so welcoming. The food was amazing! Best meal we had in Bali! We highly recommend.
- U5081NKlaurenp00A snapshot of tradition away from the tourist side of BaliThis was a really unique experience and wonderful to experience an insight into traditional village life in Bali. Much more than just a cooking class! Thank you Dewa and family
- A6480TTemmam00100% authenticAbsolutely amazing!!! Loved making 6 traditional dishes and exploring everything that came from their garden. Highly recommend
- tomiet00My Balinese cooking experience with PutuThe cooking experience with Putu was so much more than I expected. Putu was attentive, fun, & very informative. I enjoyed learning how the spices interact, how cooking the rice twice makes a big difference, knowing the right time to flip the fritters, & understanding the salt/sweet/spice combinations. I (we) made possibly the best meal of my life! So delicious. But even better was getting to know more about Balinese life. Putu explained the farm, gardens & how harvests are done. Her invitation to see the family temples was very special. My overall feeling of this experience was that it was a great blessing, & one worth doing again!
- Kim G00Wonderful Authentic Cooking Class Experience in UbudOur traveling group of four (2 couples) just finished an amazing cooking class with Putu that was unforgettable! So personable, talented, and generous with her knowledge of Balinese cooking, as well as touching our hearts with her wonderful spirit, Putu gave us all such a magical memory on this trip to Bali. This is a not-to-be-missed experience if you’re traveling here. Very special!
- Monique S0010/10 highly recommendedPutu’s cooking class was absolutely amazing. We were picked up directly from the lobby of our hotel. Once at her home, she shared her culture with us by explaining the functions of the temple in her village and guiding us through each step of the recipe for the dishes we made. There was a lot to digest but she was very patient as we mispronounced some of the terms but we eventually caught on. The food came out amazing and we highly recommend doing this as a group or couple. Putu’s hospitality was greatly appreciated. A new experience for us snd one of the highlights of our trip.
- peterdX7287KU00A super class, with amazing food!!!Our cooking class with Putu, in her family home, was amazing! We were collected from our Hotel and driven to her family home, which included family temples, rice field, a huge array of fruit and vegetable plants and trees. Putu explained how the property works, how much is harvested and when, and all for the consumption of the family. It's quite surprising! Our cooking class covered 5 dishes which were: * Steamed Rice with Sweet Potato * Tempeh Manis (Crispy fried Tempeh with sweet soy and chilli) * Urab Sayur (Coconut, Long Beans and vegetable salad) * Corn Fritters * Sate Ayam (Satay Chicken skewers) It was totally awesome! We cooked with a wood fire, a gas cooker and a charcoal grill. All the ingredients (with the exception of maybe 3) for all 5 dishes, including the chicken, came from her family home. You cannot get fresher! We had a ball, it was funny, happy and most of all incredibly friendly! The recipes were led by Putu and it was a joy to follow her guidance. After all dishes were prepared, we sat and ate like Kings!!! Thank you Putu, you made our night fantastic and I cannot recommend your class highly enough. Peter & Tamra (Melbourne, Australia)
- tedsun9400Really authentic, excellently set up cooking Balinese classReally authentic cooking class. Putu is incredibly knowledgeable not only about cooking but also able to very clearly explain important aspects of the rich Balinese culture. Cooking class is really well set up with an outdoor kitchen especially for running the classes and all the mise en place prepared so that you get the experience of truly preparing and cooking everything but with things also just efficient enough. She lives in a farming village very close to Ubud and it's a totally different experience to anything you'll find more central or in a restaurant. Private transfer included as well. As a bonus, it sounds like when you book it's a very good chance it'll just be a private cooking class if not in the peak season.
- brentopher00Best cooking class! One of our trip highlightsWhat a wonderful experience! Putu and her family welcomed us into their beautiful traditional Balinese home and they treated us like family. We got to cook in their spacious and gorgeous backyard kitchen. I was fully expecting other people to be there but it was a private cooking class and Putu created such an amazing environment to allow our 3 year old to be involved. The dogs and chickens were a nice plus so they also kept our daughter entertained. And her recipes were incredibly delicious, better than most of the restaurants we've eaten at in Bali. The best part was it didn't feel like a class. It felt like we were preparing food for a family gathering. It was a great time just getting to know each other's families. Just absolutely unforgettable and we would love to do this again the next time we visit Bali. We could not recommend this more! Thank you Putu and family!!

Very authentic Balinese cooking experience. Putu picked us up and dropped us off to our accommodation. We prepared about 6 dishes and she and her family were very supportive and helpful with my 3 children in the kitchen (aged 6, 9 and 9). The dishes were all delicious and there was way too much food for us to eat.
She also showed us how rice grows and was very knowledgeable of the local area.
I would highly recommend this cooking class as an authentic Balinese experience.

We spent a great cooking evening with Putu! The package includes transportation to and from the accommodation and a tour of Putu's home with garden and temple. Very interesting and authentic to learn about the life of a local Balinese family. The ingredients for cooking were mostly from Putu's own garden! We have prepared various traditional Balinese dishes and learned a lot about the preparation process. The food tasted fantastic and was by far the best food we had eaten so far! If you want to experience an authentic cooking evening, we can definitely recommend Putu's cooking class. Suksmā Putu!

This was a highlight of our trip to Bali! We were welcomed with such hospitality and generosity. The class was private and did not feel rushed at all as Putu walked us through the 5 recipes and showed us the garden where all the ingredients were grown (even the rice was grown there). The food was plentiful and delicious and Putu catered vegan for me and normal for my boyfriend.
I would recommend this experience to anyone it was truly a great taste of Balinese culture and a special time shared!

Amazing experience, Putu is so friendly and takes the time to explain how her lovely traditional Balinese home is laid out and what each one of the buildings and temples is for, and greets you with an amazing fruit selection and a refreshing coconut. She shows you around her garden as well with all the crops that they produce before starting the cooking class and then take to get started! She leads you so calmly every step of the way and makes recommendations on salt/sweet/spice to suit your palate! One of our best experiences in Bali, we would highly recommend and will be back to visit Putu in the future!

TLDR: Spend that extra money to have a personal cooking with Putu. It is your party and your party alone. She is friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and a fantastic cook.
I booked the 11AM cooking class with Putu and she makes it an effort to contact you a few days before your cooking class. If you are staying out side of Ubud, like I did in Jimbaran, you can take a Grab (Uber) or private driver to a meet up point. There she will pick you up and take you to her home! She gave us a tour of her home and gave some refreshments. I suggest you get to know her because she ask a lot of questions about you and where you come from. During the cooking, she will show you the ingredients and ask you to prep them and cook them. Every dish we made was delicious! Keep in mind that Balinese people do like their food spicy to let her know in advance if you cannot handle spicy food. In the end, drove me back to my pick up location but stopped by a few shops to help me but good such as a sarong! I definitely recommend her service. Thank you Putu!!!

I had a ton of fun learning to cook from chef Putu. She’s patient, motherly and very experienced. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn more on Balinese cooking and culture! Yes, it’s not just about the food. Putu goes the extra mile and teaches you about her home, her village and the culture from the very moment you get into the car. She and her family are all so very approachable and welcoming, and entertained the many questions I had with the warmest of smiles. On top of that, we had kids in my small group and she even taught a six year old how to properly cut vegetables. The only downside of the tour was that the food was so good, it had set the standards for every other meal I had in Ubud after ;D

We did this class as part of our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. Putu’s English is excellent and she was really clear in her explanations. She’s an incredibly impressive woman who has built a business from nothing, and it was amazing to hear her story too.
We were shown around her house and family temple, learning a lot about Balinese culture and religion, as well as getting to try new fruits and herbs. Most of what you cook with is grown in their own family garden, which is really nice.
The food was plentiful. We made five savoury dishes - rice with sweet potato, fried tempeh, a salad, satay and corn cakes. We left incredibly full and with takeaway boxes! I don’t eat chilli but my husband did, and this was catered for, which was the big plus for us over a larger group cooking class where food is shared. She also sent us really thorough instructions via WhatsApp to recreate everything we’d made at home.
Ladies - to note, you will be asked if you’re menstruating before you enter the family temple (as it’s not permitted by their religion for women to enter on their period) which I wasn’t expecting! Not an issue, but just something to be aware of.
The class is expensive for Ubud and there are plenty of cheaper options, but it’s absolutely worth it.

If I sound like I’m gushing it’s because I am! This was an outstanding experience and window into family life in Bali.
Right from the moment of our hotel pick-up Putu & her husband Pastor displayed warm hospitality, sharing local knowledge on the way to their family home. After touring their compound and gaining an understanding of family/village living and their Hindu faith our cooking class commenced. With most of the ingredients sourced directly from their property their was no doubt we were about to feast on quality and delicious Balinese cuisine.
The cooking process was enjoyable, informative and relatively simple (I think we’ll be able to tackle most of the recipes at home) and the fruits of our labour were sensational.
If you are looking to experience true Bali, then this is an activity you should absolutely do.
I give it 10/10!
Big thanks ro Putu and her whole extended family for making every moment from pick up to drop off enjoyable.

If you’re going to Ubud, do this activity! Out of everything that we have experienced in Bali so far, Putu’s cooking class has by far been our favorite! The whole experience lasted around 4 hours, with Putu giving us a private tour of her family’s traditional Balinese home and her family’s temple. Putu and her husband were both extremely warm and welcoming. As for the cooking, the meals we prepared were delicious and her instructions were very easy to follow. The food we prepared was better than any restaurant food we’ve had in Bali. 10/10 recommend!!

During a 7 trip to Bali with a friend of mine, we decided to take a cooking class. Putu was the most sweetest, kindest soul. Like an extended mother. Gave great explanations throughout the class on foods compliment each other best when cooked. The cooking knowledge she shared was priceless and one I’ve never experienced before. She shared the background of her family and tradition made us feel like we’re part of her family. Hours later my friend and I were still talking about how much we enjoyed this experience.

Hello! Where are you located? We would be travelling from uluwatu. Do you have any spaces this week Wednesday or Thursday? Thank you!

Hi Kristina, I suggest booking directly on Tripadvisor, it will show the dates available and after your booking it will allow you to exchange messages with the host directly.
Putu's home is in a small village not far from Ubud, so quite a ride from Uluwatu. Just leave with some time to spare as traffic can be intense, depending on the time of the day.
Hope it helps

Do they cater for a vegetarian cooking session as I would not want to cook meat. Also will they cater for a solo traveller?
thank you
