A good route
Feb 2020 • Friends
After sorting out broken headphones etc and missing the info for the first stop, the bus tour continued as expected. However as we tried to keep our position on the map it became confusing. The commentary referenced buildings and landmarks by number which wasn’t marked on the map they gave us. At one stop as we tried to exit the bus started again and wouldn’t stop. We were told to exit we would need to sit on and re-do the entire tour! When we returned to the start and I asked about certain stops I was told that not all the stops marked were on the tour as the bus had to re-route. This meant we had a lengthy walk back to the museum we wanted to visit

Soooo not worth the money
Theoretically it's a good way to discover St Petersburg. But really it's a rip off. Prices advertised as "from 17€..". No idea where to get that price. We paid 140€ for a 48 hour ticket for 2 adults, 1 student and 1 child. Busses were packed, people are standing. The audio system isn't great. The information given is good I suppose.

All up, it just ended up being 2-3 very very expensive bus rides over a 48 hours. It was easily the biggest expense we had in St Petersburg and was the least enjoyed.

We have enjoyed many Hop on-hop off tours in various cities. In St Petersburg we bought the Red line and we found it to have very basic info, with lots of silent pauses- both during driving and while waiting at bus stops. Very little info on architecture and just a little bit of history.
You can easily do this walking on your own, and get more info of the web.

Dear readers,

We expected more. It was pretty boring.
Upstairs we were freezing.
We definitely don’t recommend- better you walk around.
St. Petersburg is a nice city to walk and to discover.

Disappointing but only travel option
Jul 2019 • Couples
We had one day to spend in St. Petersburg and decided to opt for the hop on hop off tour bus because we realized that the city was just too big to be walkable and we were car-less. We knew that the tour starts from St. Isaac’s Cathedral (Isaakievskiy Sobor), so we went straight there and approached the ticket seller. When we tried to buy tickets with euros, he said that they only accept rubles. We didn't have enough (we had only 2,000 and needed 4,000). This started a wild goose chase for us, because we didn't have a clue where to exchange money nearby. We entered a corner souvenir shop where a nice Spanish-speaking clerk directed us to a bank. Unfortunately, it was closed but we returned to the bus depot anyway because it was our only viable option to tour the city and we hoped to convince them to give us a break... Luckily, we chanced upon two women who were also selling tickets and they surprisingly informed us that we could also pay by credit card. Why the first ticket seller didn't mention this escapes me... We ended up buying tickets for the red route.
We climbed the steps to sit upstairs and see the view unobstructed. But although it was mid-July and only 12:30 in the afternoon, it was just too cold to sit outside. We completed 1.5 hours of the route, ending up at 14:00 on Nevsky Prospekt where we got off the bus for lunch. Both my husband and I needed soup badly! We didn't use the bus after that. Just wandered around that part of town. The cold weather had caught us off guard and unprepared. It put a damper on our experience.

A good way to see various sites
Sep 2019
We found it very difficult to find where to pick up these vouchers. It was not far from the church of the spilled blood but in a side street at the museum of slot machines not easy to see.once we had the vouchers we made good use of them. Visited the Faberge museum. The following day used them for a site seeing tour on the river and then used th bus to hop off at 2 more churches which the vouchers were for, so good value.

It does not even compare to the same service in other cities!
Jul 2019 • Couples
I am a travel agent, often book this bus service around the world for clients as well as having used it myself in many many cities around the world, including Moscow, just days prior to using in St. Pet. I do not even know how to list all the issues I had. Late buses, old buses with only one jack per row for the headphones, but the worst was probably the agent we often got on board, Oleysa. She spends the whole time at the cell phone texting, you ask her questions and it looks like you are bothering her, we asked her to let us know about a stop, she answered, you can look it up for yourself outside!! A bunch of us stepped off the bus during a longer stop and told her we just wanted to take photos but we would continue on board once the bus was ready to leave. She looked at our eyes with a smirk as the but was closing the doors not even announcing to us and the other clients it was time to come back on board. I witnessed her huff and puffing to customers asking questions and being the opposite of friendly and welcoming. Clearly texting is more important to her than her job! The other staff members were nice, although, if you work for a tourism company you must speak some English or some other languages, and overall, the staff in St. Petersburg did not match the skills and niceness of the ones in Moscow or other cities. Except for Victor who was very nice to us and everyone who had questions. I will not recommend the bus service to clients!
