Hokkaido Sake Tasting Experience - well worth it!
Some friends and I were in Hokkaido over New Years and we wanted to do something fun and special while we were in Sapporo. Since we were only in Sapporo for a few days, I thought this tour would be a great way for us to see the city and find some good places to eat and drink. Our host, Asuka, was great! She emailed me well ahead of our trip with a rough plan for our tour, and with some input from me, she put together a great itinerary for us. She took us to a stand-up sake bar, and then to a small izakaya where we got to taste several different types of sake and had a great dinner with lots of local dishes (the dinner was extra), and then we ended at a parfait cafe where we had very elaborate and decadent desserts. All of the places that Asuka chose for us were very representative of, and unique to, the Japanese culture, and she walked us through the main shopping districts and gave us a good understanding of the layout of the city. Asuka was also such a good sport, answering all of the questions we had for her, about herself and Japanese culture in general. Also, I should mention that we had 10 people in our group, so it was so great that Asuka was able and willing to take us around the city and find places big enough for all of us, especially when most places were closed for the holiday. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who wants a personal guide to show them around the city and lead them to some great spots. And I would highly recommend Asuka as a great guide!

We had a guide who had no plan about what to do and really didn’t want to engage at all.
We would have been better off taking ourselves on a walking tour with a map and compass. Don’t bother with the cost of this trip is isn’t worth it.

The guide was friendly, and I appreciated the ideas of inviting locals to introduce their city. However, the overall experience could have been better.

Initially, I encountered some technical issues while filling out the survey for the tour. I contacted customer support and the tour guide with my survey responses and received prompt replies. I appreciate that.

However, I must express my disappointment with the actual tour experience. Despite my specific request for an "off-the-beaten" path, focusing on culture, history, and traditional folklore, the tour itinerary did not align with my expectations. The three-hour tour primarily showcased popular landmarks such as the Clock Tower, the TV Tower, and the Botanic Garden, offering readily available information that could be obtained through a simple online search.

While I acknowledge the guide's friendliness and effort to showcase the city, the overall experience fell short, especially considering the tour's pricing. I am inclined to request a refund (though I think it’s not possible). I have noticed similar sentiments in reviews from other travelers, and I hope the company can take this feedback into consideration to refine their service.

Karen was our tour guide. She is an expatriate that has adapted to the local environment and knew local Japanese food very well. She directed us to an interesting local restaurant where we had grilled local seafood and we then walked to the Susukino district where we had drinks at the Nikka distillery restaurant. A nice evening but not too informative about Japan or the city. We didn’t see much of Sapporo at night beyond the restaurant and the drinking establishment. Not much was customized about this trip and can’t suggest this for those who want to see more of Sapporo at night.

Thank you for the wonderful guided tour throughout Sapporo. We really enjoyed hiking through the parks, the view of the city, and the temple area, while learning how to use the subway and bus system. Of course, the meal in a traditional restaurant was perfect. This was a great way to explore the city.

A marvellous day. Emi was helpful, knowledgeable and flexible. When the clouds came in and left the ropeway completely covered, we simply switched to a different part of the itinerary. If you are just about to have her as a guide you are lucky people.

Excellent sightseeing. Guide took us around by private car instead of walking. It’s wonderful that Ryuki spoke fluent English and spent time in the USA in his youth. It made our tour so much more enjoyable.

It was our first time visiting Sapporo and we had time to kill on our first day. It wasn't our first time in Japan, but the amount of snow and how that changes basically everything made it worth it for us - especially as we're not coming from a wealth of experience in the cold. Being introduced to places around our hotel's area, insight into where the locals go to eat, and some explainers on why locals do things a certain way are what I was really looking for in a "by locals" kind of tour. I would say it greatly reduced the amount of social anxiety that there can be in being in a foreign land with foreign people. I came out of this with a lot more confidence in how to approach our short stay in Hokkaido.

Special thanks to Zarina! Hope you get to do your PhD soon!

We were privileged to have Chieko San to be our guide for the Sapporo tour. She is very helpful and provides us with information about the history of Sapporo. We can communicate well with her and we enjoyed her briefing of the Sapporo and thankful for her to guide us with taking the subway which is beneficial for us to travel around in Sapporo. I strongly recommended this tour for first timers in Sapporo.

Faiz gave me a great tour based on things I wanted to see an do. We did a mix of walking, and Publix transport. He also gave me insight that you can pretty much walk Sapporo underground, so if it is raining or snowing, you don't have to stay stuck outdoors unless you want to. One of the last stops we did was JR Tower Observatory. What an amazing view, and catching the sunset up there was spectacular. While there was another place I wanted to visit, once I saw that view/sunset, I told Faiz that we can just rest. We grabbed Soft Ice-Cream up at the observatory, and just sat back and enjoyed. If you want to visit Otaru, he knows that place as well. I will be be back to visit Otaru on the next trip, and Faiz will be someone I want to show me around.
