    The ceremony and kimonos
My husband and I did this experience. We just love it. It last 2h. Everything is explained in English. We were a group of 7 people plus our teacher. We enjoyed it a lot. First we made japanese sweets, after that we wore kimonos (both men and women). We could chose between at least 15 different kimonos. And they do your hair too. After that we learned how to do matcha the during the ceremony. We could take pictures all time. When we finished we took photos in the garden. A part that u can wear kimonos till 6pm, so we made the most of it and visit the city. Price is totally worth it. You need to book it in advance, they have so many activities which to choose.

    Fantastic family experience
Our family of four (kids aged 11 and 9) had such a good time. Our katana lesson was fun, and the instructor was so engaging. He helped us each make a short action video. After the katana lesson, we had a tour of the samurai and ninja museum. The tour guide was so informative - we learned so much about the history of the samurai and Japan in general. The tour ended with a group ninja star throwing lesson. The katana lesson is in a different building so it would help to arrive 5-10 minutes early. Everyone spoke excellent English.

    Great Experience!
We had a great time and absolutely loved the experience! We had four drinks (which came free with the experience) and a great time! We mastered 3 Ninja skills (blowgun, sword, shuriken) and the instructor was very patient.

    Great experience
Really cool experience - got to throw ninja stars and blow darts at targets and learn a lot about the history as well. Well worth it!

    Not authentic
This experience cannot be called « authentic ». It was conducted in a shopping mall and not a historic site and consisted of an explanation by a tour guide with some props and some photo taking opportunity while trying out prop weapons

Kind people who were very helpful and informative. Funny “teacher”/guide who told us about samurai history.

    Fun, but short
Loved the experience! However, the waiting was longer than the actual experience. You can't really walk around. They have you just wait in one area. The tea ceremony was short and my group I was traveling with agreed that it seemed expensive for this experience.

    Avoid it
Tourist trap. Very disorganized. Avoid it, not worth the money or the time. They put the kimono on and left me seated on the street for 45 min, no one available to ask what’s next. Terrible experience

    Overrated!
So awful. Incredibly late to start, no apology and the staff’s English was very hard to understand. Avoid!

    A bit busy, but good.
It was good fun, but I didn't expect to be part of a huge group. We all got different color bracelet and it was confusing. We didn't dress up with the rest of the group, which was a bit odd as we stood out then, but we did later in a private room.

    Great meeting with a MAIKO!
We did the meet & greet with a MAIKO (Geiko apprentice) with a translator. It was a very unique experience worth paying for. She did a welcome dance, answered questions for us, played games with some of the guests and the translator explained all about the differences between Geiko and MAIKO. My 12 year old son enjoyed it a lot too! We had booked a walking tour of gion and the meet and greet packaged together, but the walking tour was cancelled due to rain. They refunded us for the walking tour and our experience was amazing.

Lovely informative tour with photo opps!
This activity was a highlight of our time in Kyoto. My group had some stressful travel mishaps and the company was kind enough to allow us to come 1/2 hour late at closing time. We went from hectic and rushed to relaxed and pampered as soon as we arrived. We fully enjoyed getting our hair done and dressed for the tea ceremony as well as the informative cultural learning during the tour. I appreciate the time alllowed for taking pictures too. I would recommend coming before sun down for better photo oops. The Japanese garden outiside the venue is beautiful.

    Terrific and educational time
Our small group had a fabulous time. The tea ceremony was the perfect kick-off and introduction to our time in Kyoto. I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in doing something like this.

    Best experience in Kyoto
This was my favorite experience in Kyoto ! Dodo dressed me in a beautiful kimono, took the best photos of me (feel free to use any as promotion for your company), and taught me tea ceremony. Due to no tourist I was so lucky and got a private experience. I felt so elegant and pretty ! I would highly recommend. Thank you so much Dodo~

My mother and young daughter attended with me. It was a lovely experience. All of the ladies were polite and helpful in helping us to put on Kimonos and doing our hair. We were permitted to take photos but not videos. Our host was well spoken and explained the tradition of the tea ceremony and showed us how it is performed. We were allowed to make our own tea in the traditional style and try a couple of Japanese sweets. It was a great experience.

This experience was extraordinary and one that me and my family will remember for a lifetime. I booked this ceremony after reading reviews and checking in with other tea ceremony options (others were only offered in Japanese). I’m very happy that I selected this option over others based on the following:

1. We loved the atmosphere of the tea house. It was very calming to sit in while listening to the tea ceremony process. It is beautiful inside and in the courtyard area.

2. The staff is very very lovely and nice to guests. They went above and beyond after a small mix up when we arrived. It was a wonderful experience meeting them.

3. We enjoyed wearing a kimono and they dressed us with great detail and effort.

4. The tea ceremony was beautiful and very peaceful. Almost like a mediation, we walked out feeling calm and relaxed.

5. The price is very affordable for the experience received.

My husband and teenage son loved the experience as well, we all highly recommend this experience.

I booked this as a birthday gift for my girlfriend and it was such an amazing experience. Akane was our host and made us feel welcomed as soon as we got there, she helped us in choosing Kimono from the great selection there. She showed us around the beautiful house and let us take lots of photo's in the garden with the hydrangeas and even gave us props like fans and umbrellas. The tea ceremony was really special, with traditional sweets. She answered all of our questions and gave us the history of tea ceremony in great detail. 10/10, would highly recommend this experience to anyone.

Yuri look after me for the ceremony and explain about the history the tradition and the tea professionally also helping me took a lots of beautiful photos because I went there alone. I felt it is a worthwhile life experience to have a deeper awareness of Japanese culture through wearing of kimono to live through an actual tea ceremony. Hosts are courtesy in grooming you for that. in addition , they are patient and warm. Highly recommend to experience this yourself before u leave Japan. I felt it really worth the amount paid with kimono rental and the explanation of the significance of the tea ceremony. signed up this with a family of 3 with a teenager.

I simply loved our tea ceremony experience in Kyoto. I wasn't expected to be so nice and informative.
There were only my husband and I and we were well treated by two lovely ladies, which both spoke a perfect English and made all the process smooth, from getting dressed on Kimono to the whole ceremony. Emily was our tea instructor and she was so lovely and so perfect on her process of preparing the tea.
My husband and I are so happy for have chosen this company :) we highly recommend it

We were booked by Japan Private Tours which is an upscale outfit and so expected something more. There was what seemed to be a larger group than they are used to handling and it was more about the touristy dressing up in kimonos than it was about interacting with an actual geisha. The "assistants" actually run the show while the geisha (maiko) appears, does a 1 to 2 minute performance, answers max of one question from each guest, then does "tea ceremony" which is basically her sitting in the corner making the tea. The guests have a sweet and matcha put in front of them, the maiko says "enjoy your sweet" finishes prepping her tea and then leaves. The guests are left with the friendly assistant to make their own tea and drink it. And that's it. Most overrated experience we had in Japan.

We had a wonderful, enriching experience at the Tea Ceremony. Firstly, the kind ladies help you pick out your kimono and hair pieces. It took longer than expected to get dressed for the part, about 20 minutes but I really enjoyed the experience of getting ready. My partner also enjoyed, we were separated for this part to allow privacy for men and women to get dressed. We were given the opportunity to take photos in the garden and the hosts helped us take some beautiful shots too. Then onto the tea ceremony. Our host was fantastic. So knowledgeable and clear in her delivery. Her English was excellent. She explained very well about the traditions of the tea ceremony as well as how to actually make the tea. Unfortunately, there was very loud drilling happening from construction site next door which significantly took away from the sense of tranquility and peace. This was quite disappointing and we feel that this should have been highlighted to us prior to booking. Nonetheless, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend.

Our teacher, Akane, was amazing! This tea ceremony and kimono wearing was a great opportunity for me and my 8 year old daughter to experience Japanese culture in a private setting. Akane was very detailed, from socks to clothing, to even the intricate hair up-do’s. She explained everything in a fun interesting way about the kimono dresses and the history of the tea ceremony. My daughter was never bored! Akane also took multiple videos and pictures for us. Nothing was rushed. We got to take unlimited pictures and videos, many Mommy and Daughter poses. This will definitely be one of the most memorable Japanese experiences I got to have with me and my daughter.
