I had a great side trip to Suzhou, guided by Caroline! Normally, I like to research extensively and handle all the logistics myself, but time was short this trip, so I decided to spring for a guided tour (I figure this would also help support local guides). I’m really glad I did this, as not only were the train tickets taken care of (and the Chinese train station logistics explained), but also the transport in Suzhou (the boat trip, bicycle rickshaw, and car). I do want to go back, so I’ll be better prepared next time.
Due to construction on the Grand Canal, we took a smaller boat on one of the side canals, which I think was better and we got a more personal boat ride, as the gondolier told us some of the history of the area and sang some Chinese songs for us while propelling our boat along!
Caroline was a knowledgeable guide, and her expertise helped me get the most out of the day in Suzhou. Besides the gardens, I also enjoyed the shopping streets, something that I normally would avoid in a tourist destination, but the ones in Suzhou we went through are really charming, especially when the lanterns are lit up in the evening. Had a great time!

Our tour to Suzhou was great. On time, both drivers very safe and capable and condition of vehicles excellent. Our guide Caroline was friendly, cheerful, fun and informative and very tolerant and kind - she is an asset to your company. Overall, the experience was very good from beginning to end. Riding the bullet train, our gondola canal tour, the beautiful gardens and delicious lunch made for a great day. We would highly recommend this tour.

Had a great day with Berlin on the day trip to Suzhou! She was very knowledgeable and showed us lots of lovely sites. Took the bullet train from Shanghai which was very fast. First stop was the City Gate, then lunch which was very tasty, then the Humble Administrator’s Garden and a fishing village where we had dessert and soup dumplings. We even had a nice boat ride in the river and bicycle carriage. I would highly recommend this tour for a nice quiet day away from the hustle and bustle of Shanghai.

My group consisted of my husband, myself and my 8 year old son. The day tour started with our guide Caroline, greeting us cheerfully at the lobby at the scheduled time. The driver was already waiting, and the car was spacious and clean. We took first class seats on the bullet train to Suzhou.
Throughout the day Caroline brought us on our planned itinerary, and gave us flexibility to spend more or less time at each place of attraction as per our interest. She even climbed a pagoda with us when we expressed interest to do so. Caroline was well informed and gave us an interesting commentary at each historical site. She was a decent photographer - we had more family photos taken today than any other day.
My son had a great time even though there were plenty of long walks, given we could rest whenever we wanted. The trishaw ride was fun for him and the restaurant we were brought to for lunch served very delicious food. That made him very happy too.
I'd say we felt the money well spent and would recommend this private tour for other families with young children.

Su Zhou is a beautiful city full of classical gardens. The old town is charming and the atmosphere is calming and serene despite the traffic and crowds. It's just 1/2 hour from shanghai by bullet train which is the best way to travel there. Clean efficient and punctual. The food there is amazing especially the snacks , some of which are made freshly.
Daisy , my guide , made this trip seamless .. I was met at the hotel, whisked to the train station, stepped into the train and was in Su Zhou in minutes. She seemed somewhat aloof initially but warmed up quickly and we got along great. She was conversant in English and mandarin. Daisy was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We visited the main sights in Su Zhou, rode on a tricycle and went on a boat ride . We had a delicious lunch at a traditional restaurant , tried chestnuts, chicken feet and some roast meat along the way. She was also very caring and helpful. As it drizzled and was getting dark towards the end of our tour, she took extra care to make sure I didn't slip as we walked along the slippery lanes.
It was a wonderful day out with a new friend!

We booked via TripAdvisor the day before and were very pleased with Berlin’s hospitality, knowledge, and can-do attitude. As a family of 5 with 3 small kids (ages 8, 6, and 3), we needed to be able to self-pace, and needed someone who could really help us adapt to our sometimes arbitrary needs.
Berlin delivered, and then some. She was warm, helpful, and guided us through the hidden gems in this lovely old town.
I highly recommend this excursion if you’re looking for the best experience you can have on your own schedule, rather than being trooped through someone else’s itinerary.
Nicely done, Berlin. Thank you.

Our guide Xin was excellent. She listened to what we were interested in seeing and adjusted the tour accordingly. We had a fabulous lunch which she arranged. It was certainly one of the highlights of our trip to China. The 50 minute boat ride on the "Grand Canal" was fabulous.

Hi. My husband and I are stopping in Shanghai for a couple of days. We thought a full day trip would fit in a few different places. this trip and a few similar are advertising a full day for around £70-£90, but when I check availability for the 2 of us, it’s around £370? Could someone please give me a better idea of the cost. Perhaps it’s the time of year? We want to go at the beginning of May. Thanks for your help. June

We had a private tour which was just great. The ride on the bullet train--boat ride--great lunch--richshaw ride made the tour great . The Private tour on the bullet train was about $400.00 for the both of Us. The prices you stated looks like the difference between a group tour and private tour.

August 1 is our last day in China. We are staying the Peninsula Hotel Shanghai and fly back to the United States Aug 1 at 20:10 that evening.
Is it possible to design a pleasant tour that leaves our hotel at 8am and be back at the Peninsula by 16:00 to get our luggage so we can leave for the airport in time for our flight later that evening?
Thank you. Marc

I am traveling on my own and would like to have a day in Suzhou on August 30, 31 or September 1. In addition to the Humble Administrator's Garden, I would like to visit another Garden. Could you suggest a proposed itinerary and price. (I am not interested in a long lunch)

Can we add Suzhou museum to this trip? Or do you have any Suzhou day trip from Shanghai plus Suzhou Museum?
