Our tour started quite early in the morning with a 7:10am pick up directly from our resort. Juan Carlos and Jorge were very prompt and energetic which is exactly what we wanted that early in the morning. We stopped at a few more resorts to pick up other guests. Juan Carlos made sure to memorize each of our names by heart. The first stop was the Volcano Hike which was about 2-3 hours of walking through the Arenal volcano area. Juan Carlos was extremely knowledgeable about everything from the history before and after the 1968 eruptions. He even impressed us with his vast knowledge of different flora and fauna and why their uniqueness to Costa Rica. He carried a professional telescope the entire way and would periodically stop to show us different birds and animals. He was also very knowledgeable on the best places to take photos. The hike itself was not extremely difficult except for a few areas which were steep with uneven rocks to walk on. After the Volcano Hike, we went to the La Fortuna Waterfall. Juan Carlos was very helpful in telling us when and where to change into our swimsuits to avoid being crowded by other tourists. We hiked down to the waterfall on walkable stairs in flip flops. The Waterfall itself is very beautiful albeit somewhat crowded. The path to the waterfall is very rocky (i would recommend watershoes of some sort). The water is around 68 degrees Fahrenheit so it's pretty cold but once you submerge it's not too bad. The current from the waterfall is very strong so people who aren't strong swimmers should be wary. There is an area downstream from the waterfall which is calmer and has fish which is more suitable for kids. The walk up from the waterfall is pretty difficult since it's about 500 steps up. After the waterfall we had a delicious traditional Costa Rica lunch. The last activity was the hanging bridges tour. Juan Carlos took us on a tour of the hanging bridges park and showed us all sorts of different animals in the rainforest. He was able to spot all sorts of birds, a pit viper, and various other small animals. The hanging bridges themselves were very beautiful and scenic. We finished the day around 4:30-5pm which meant we were extremely exhausted and our legs were very tired but it was definitely worth it. We would not have understood half of what we were looking at or seen any of the animals if it weren't for Juan Carlos. His energy, passion, and enthusiasm for his job and wildlife brought the whole day from a 8/10 to a 10/10! Definitely worth the time and money!

A group of friends and myself booked this activity and we knew it was going to be a great experience, but it ended up exceeding our expectations. Jose (Pepe) and Joel picked us up at our hotel right on time and we proceeded with our day. We were provided with water and delicious food for lunch. Pepe was our guide and he was the best we could've asked for. We knew we'd get to sight-see throughout the hike, but we didn't expect Pepe to be as informative and seek out wildlife for us to see the way he did. He started as our guide, and ended as our friend. Thank you Pepe!! Everything about the trip went perfectly well, from beginning to end. I would recommend that if you are able to - definitely do the full day experience, it's a long day but it goes by fast and you are able to see so much. It is 100% worth it.

This activity was the perfect way to start our adventure in Costa Rica. Our guide, Juan Carlos, was very knowledgeable about all activities we did as well as the history of the area. Lunch was a traditional Costa Rican meal at a local restaurant and was fabulous. Our driver Jorge was great as well. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see multiple attractions in one day with a small group so you can really enjoy it all. My favorite part was all the wildlife that Juan Carlos was able to spot along our hikes. We would’ve never seen any of them without his experienced eye. They even stopped on the drive back to our hotel when he spotted a toucan up on a tree beside the road so we could get a picture. Top notch experience!!

I booked this excursion and was so impressed! It was exactly as described and our guide, Pepe, was superb. The day was not rushed and we were dropped off at our door when it was finished. Our driver handled those tight winding roads like a pro. It wasn’t his first day on the job! Wonderful knowledgeable and humours explanations were shared by Pepe. He knew where to look for camouflaged wildlife and put our safety first. He wasn’t just “taking us for a hike “, He had binoculars and took photos for us and pointed out fantastic viewpoints. While we were enjoying the falls and pools he watched our things and took photos for us. Our valuables and extra clothing was kept secure in the van with the driver always present whiiwe were touring about. Lots of laughs and humour with explanations. I’ve recommended this tour and suggested my friends see if he can be their guide.
Everything we saw, did as well as the meal was awesome.
I’d do it again

This was my first trip to Costa Rica, so my friend booked us this all-day tour. It did not disappoint. I'd liken our native tour guides to the 95 Chicago Bulls lineup for knowledge, friendliness, flexibility and energy. This is not an easy job keeping track of tourists all day from various countries! Erica (Michael Jordan), Rey (Scottie Pippin) and our driver Leo (Dennis Rodman, jk but you get the idea) effortlessly showed us the rich biodiversity of the region, ethical considerations of modern-day eco-tourism and hospitality of locals.
The great promise (and responsibility) of world travel is getting to connect to people and cultures you never even knew existed. I haven't done much traveling since COVID — this was my first international trip in at least three years, and it was pure bliss. I miss Costa Rica already. And Erica, Rey and Leo! Mucho gracias!

The tour guide was amazing. She was informative, very cheerful, witty, helpful, and made sure our experience was really great. She set the bar unrealistically high. I thought this tour was too expensive but after experiencing it, I think it's actually worth it. She was an amazing and enthusiastic photographer and was able to notice animals wherever we were, picking out plants, etc. When I went on a tour later in Manuel Antonio where the actual tour was supposed to be about picking out wildlife, that tour paled in comparison to this one where the focus wasn't eve the wildlife. She had suggestions on where to eat, what to do, etc. and she was fantastic. We also moved on a nice, tight schedule which made the most of my short time in La Fortuna.

Having the opportunity to visit 3 amazing locations in a single day was such a great experience and our tour tour guide Roy was so kind, patient, very knowledgeable and accommodating.
We were fortunate enough to have an encounter with a howler monkey at the Mistico Hanging Bridges where he actually came down onto one of the bridges and even tried to swipe some phones from some of us in the group! Roy provided lots of information about the forest, the animals and insects we saw and took photos for us.
We then traveled to La Fortuna waterfall where the pictures don’t do it any justice. Getting to swim in the water was really nice. Again, Roy shared tons of information about the waterfall, took pictures for us and watched our stuff while we swam.
We went for a delicious lunch nearby and then went to another area really close by to begin our hike at the volcano. It was not a difficult hike in my opinion, even after a long day. The views were amazing and Roy once again shared lots of information about the volcano and animals and took pictures for us.
Would highly recommend this experience. Small families could probably do this as well. There was another group near us that had two young children and they seemed to have a good time. Dress for the weather, I’d recommend bringing water shoes if you plan to swim but not 100% necessary, a change of dry clothes (I brought just shorts and didn’t have to change). Our guide had a cooler with water bottles but can’t hurt to bring extra.

If you are in La Fortuna for only a short amount of time I would highly recommend this tour. We had a great day, our tour guide Raul was phenomenal! His energy, passion and knowledge is fantastic! Raul spotted lots of different animals during the tour and helped us take great photos each time. The tour was incredibly interesting and the sights we saw were just wonderful. Whilst you can visit the nature parks without a guide I would highly recommend booking a tour with a guide, Raul really made the day as he taught us so much about the flora and fauna of the parks. This was best tour we have participated in during our trip in Costa Rica.

This was by far the best tour I took my entire time in Costa Rica (and I took a lot!). Juan Carlos was a great guide and was very enthusiastic. He helped us spot so many animals and he was great at educating us about them. Pablo was also a gentle driver which is great because I tend to get motion sick, and I had no issues at all. Lunch was pretty good. I especially loved the fruit juice options (I had soursop and it was delicious). The day is admittedly a long day, but I enjoyed every second of it. We did 18k steps according to my Fitbit that day so keep that in mind. Juan Carlos was good at providing options to make things easier if needed (for example there was an option of not going down and then subsequently up the 500 steps to the waterfall). If you are able to physically, I would recommend going in the waterfall though because it was amazing

The tour was great (Volcano Hike & Hanging Bridges was great, La Fortuna Fall was majestic however climbing the 500 steps back up to the top was more than a challenge) Guide (Aerica) was knowledgeable, professional and very friendly.
As for the lunch the food was OK but I'm recommending that the tour company change lunch locations. One person on the tour left his cell phone at the restaurant when paying his bill. Our driver and tour guide made an extra effort to recover the phone. When the man track the cell from his laptop back at the hotel it showed it at the restaurant. Shortly after he made contact with the phone it moved location. The restaurant was EL COLOSO ARENAL.

I am staying at Secrets in Papagayo. How many hours is it to La Fortuna? What time does the excursion start? Where would I have to drive to? I have 6 people who are interested in this excursion.

We traveled from San Jose to La Fortuna the day before our tour and hired a private shuttle company instead of renting a car. We used tropical tour shuttles. We stayed at Royal Corin Hotel in La Fortuna and the tour group picked us up at our hotel around 7 am. They also returned us to our hotel around 5 pm in the afternoon.

I will be traveling with my 2 children, 2yrs and 4yrs. I do not see the ability to reserve tickets for anyone under the age of 5. Is it not recommended I bring young children or are young children free?

I would not recommend this for young children at all. You can’t bring any type of stroller and there is a lot of walking.

You should be fine unless the Dr has restrictions on you for hiking etc. Lots of walking of course but nothing terribly strenuous.
