About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- davidrV9929OY0 contributionsAmazing Safari River floatGreen Vacations Safari float was amazing! Our guide Hector was exceptional and very knowledgeable. We saw so much wildlife like sloths, monkeys, birds, iguanas plus more. Hector even called the howlers monkeys and got them to howl back! The trip ended at a local farm for some delicious Costa Rican snacks. Would highly recommend this trip.Written 8 February 2025
- TravelingfromAmerica0 contributionsSo much fun!Alonso led such an exciting tour where we got to see and learn about a wide range of wildlife. He helped us take amazing pictures and we had a memorable experienceWritten 2 February 2025
- jasoncX615XJ0 contributionsIgnacio "Nacho" made this trip fantastic. The park is amazing. What an amazing tour. My large family (5 boys ages 14-24 plus my 85 year old mom) spent a half day at the park. Our guide Ignacio ("Nacho") was fantastic. With a degree in wildlife biology he knew something about pretty much everything we were looking at. He was very helpful in arranging a shorter route for my mom and enlisted the driver to help with that. The scenery is jaw dropping and the bridges are fantastic. We got very lucky at the end and saw a large group of spider monkeys (at least 13) moving through the canopy right over our heads on the last bridge of the day. One even made a bridge with her body between two trees for a juvenile monkey to cross over on. What a special experience!Written 3 January 2025
- laurenn7960 contributionsAdventure of a lifetime!! Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna waterfall, river saagariJuan Carlos was absolutely wonderful! He was so knowledgeable and friendly, and he made our adventure the best thing we have ever done! We did the Arenal Hike, the La Fortuna waterfall, and river safari. We had the trip of a lifetime, and Juan Carlos made it the best it could possibly be!!Written 27 December 2024
- 746jenz0 contributionsThe best volcano tour with kidsWe had the best time on our hike. Giovanni was early to pick us up, the bus was comfortable and clean and the drive was quick. Jose (Pepe) was a fantastic guide. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We hiked with our 3 kids (ages 7,5, and 4) and none of them complained once. I cannot recommend this tour enough! I came to Arenal several years ago with my family and was concerned about my kids with this hike having done one prior but with this company and these guides you cannot go wrong.Written 16 December 2024
- G1909QEpaulb0 contributionsA great tour with great service! Our experience with Green Vacations was THE BEST. Even though it was unseasonably rainy during our trip, and the river was a little high and fast, our guide Wilbur and driver Ronald were confident that the trip would be safe, and it definitely was. The river was moving well but not too fast, and we got to see a howler monkey with a baby, white-faced capuchins, several varieties of birds including several toucans, and iguanas. At the end of the trip, a snack from a local cafe (more like a small meal) was delicious. The bird-watching at the cafe was also excellent. Pickup from our resort was on-time, and Wilbur was an excellent source of information about all of the wildlife that we saw. We will definitely book again!Written 14 December 2024
- Ejt28210 contributionsFloating down the river seeing wildlifeFantastic tour. Floated down the river while seeing a huge family of howler monkeys (stoped to watch about 15 of them including babies for a while), many birds and iguanas, a slot, and a baby crocodile. Our guide will was excellent at spotting wildlife and was very friendly and professional. Would highly recommend this tourWritten 11 December 2024
- bobbi-bbc0 contributionsLovely outing with competent guide who spotted lots of monkeys and other wildlife. Really enjoyed our day.Lovely day with our guide. The 3 of us booked a private tour. Our guide could spot animals and birds that were blending into the environment. I don’t know how he did it, but he did. He kept us safe which is important. The howler monkeys were amazing. They were being chased by another animal. I can’t remember the name but apparently it’s not a usual sighting.Written 7 December 2024
- 836dileepr0 contributionsIncredible ExperienceFirstly, the tours were easily arranged through our hotel and the logistics were handled seamlessly. Angelica was a wonderful guide for all of our tours - Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall, and Hanging Bridges. She was extremely knowledgeable, super nice to my 3 young children, and showed us a great time! We met such great people in our group as well.Written 7 August 2024
- Mrsquatch0 contributionsGreat trip, be ready to walk!We did a self guided tour. The bridges were fun, some are busy and you don’t get much time for pictures. We had an 8 and 11 year old with us, and they were definitely ready for the hike to be over. I think it’s about 2 miles or so, up and down hills, so does require some energy. The drink hub has great smoothies, definitely recommend the soursop and passion fruit!!Written 16 June 2024
- JJChristos0 contributionsViator / Trip Advisor FAILUnfortunately we were never able to go on this tour, despite booking it a month in advance and paying full price. Viator gave me multiple confirmation emails about a time and place to meet and a non-functioning phone number contact for Green Vacations. We were where we were supposed to be at 7:00am but the tour provider was an hour later. Viator customer service was worthless in connecting us or fixing the situation, and content that I need to pay for the tour anyways. I'm disputing it with my cc company and would never book through them again.Written 17 April 2024

- 327bartekm0 contributionsVery good hike at base of volcanoOur guide, Angelica, was very knowledgable and made the hike very interesting. She explained the history of the area and of the volcano, she pointed out interesting facts along the trail and took some photos for us. My wife and I both agreed that the eperience would not have been nearly as rich if we had just done the hike on our own. Also, tours like this are a very good opportunity to meet some interesting fellow-travelers and strike up conversations. Thank you, Angelica.Written 23 February 2024

We had a wonderful tour guide! She was professional and very knowledgeable. The hanging bridges offer a great view into the rain forest. Unfortunately it was raining, which the tour guide explained makes it more difficult to see the animals. We did see the yellow viper and a monkey though. Then we toured around the volcano and the rainy weather obscured the view of the volcano but fortunately we did get a momentary glimpse, long enough to snap a few photos. We skipped the waterfall part because swimming was prohibited because of the weather and because we had already glimpsed the waterfall on a different day. We had a lovely lunch through the tour at nice little restaurant. The tour guide did an A-plus job.

Our guide did his best to make the most of a very rainy day, but we weren't able to fully enjoy the forest due to the heavy downpour.
For future visitors, I recommend dressing appropriately for the unpredictable weather.
Layer up: Wear a light shirt and bring a warm hoodie to stay comfortable.
Footwear matters: Sandals and open-toed shoes are not permitted within the bridge forest. If rain is in the forecast, bring waterproof boots instead of running shoes, as they can get soaked and stay wet for the rest of the day.
Overall, I highly recommend this tour. The bridges are truly impressive, and the forest itself is breathtaking. The trails leading to the volcano are unique, even though we weren't able to see the volcano itself. The tour is really informative.
My only suggestion for the guide: Encourage participants to occasionally pause and listen to the sounds of the environment. This would allow everyone to fully appreciate the natural soundscape.

Had a great tour with our amazing guide Val. We went in mid-January when rainy season was supposed to be over, but it rained all day! There are 4 parts to the day
- hiking the Arenal volcano, which was not hard and gives you a feel for that environment, with Val giving interesting facts - Volcanos are her passion!
- visiting the La Fortuna waterfall. The 500 steps down and back are not difficult, and the waterfall is majestic. With all the rain the waterfall was thundering and swimming or even going near the water was not possible
- Walking through Mistico park with the hanging bridges. While the bridges get top billing and are very cool Val pointed out tons of animals (monkeys birds, trantualas!) and the scenery is unique.
- Lunch was at a "restaurant" that the tour company operates. Simple, home cooking style lunch which was relaxed and quite good.
We were picked up from our hotel shortly after 7 and got back close to 4, so is an all day adventure and definitel worth it.

Our tour started quite early in the morning with a 7:10am pick up directly from our resort. Juan Carlos and Jorge were very prompt and energetic which is exactly what we wanted that early in the morning. We stopped at a few more resorts to pick up other guests. Juan Carlos made sure to memorize each of our names by heart. The first stop was the Volcano Hike which was about 2-3 hours of walking through the Arenal volcano area. Juan Carlos was extremely knowledgeable about everything from the history before and after the 1968 eruptions. He even impressed us with his vast knowledge of different flora and fauna and why their uniqueness to Costa Rica. He carried a professional telescope the entire way and would periodically stop to show us different birds and animals. He was also very knowledgeable on the best places to take photos. The hike itself was not extremely difficult except for a few areas which were steep with uneven rocks to walk on. After the Volcano Hike, we went to the La Fortuna Waterfall. Juan Carlos was very helpful in telling us when and where to change into our swimsuits to avoid being crowded by other tourists. We hiked down to the waterfall on walkable stairs in flip flops. The Waterfall itself is very beautiful albeit somewhat crowded. The path to the waterfall is very rocky (i would recommend watershoes of some sort). The water is around 68 degrees Fahrenheit so it's pretty cold but once you submerge it's not too bad. The current from the waterfall is very strong so people who aren't strong swimmers should be wary. There is an area downstream from the waterfall which is calmer and has fish which is more suitable for kids. The walk up from the waterfall is pretty difficult since it's about 500 steps up. After the waterfall we had a delicious traditional Costa Rica lunch. The last activity was the hanging bridges tour. Juan Carlos took us on a tour of the hanging bridges park and showed us all sorts of different animals in the rainforest. He was able to spot all sorts of birds, a pit viper, and various other small animals. The hanging bridges themselves were very beautiful and scenic. We finished the day around 4:30-5pm which meant we were extremely exhausted and our legs were very tired but it was definitely worth it. We would not have understood half of what we were looking at or seen any of the animals if it weren't for Juan Carlos. His energy, passion, and enthusiasm for his job and wildlife brought the whole day from a 8/10 to a 10/10! Definitely worth the time and money!

During our honeymoon, we did a full day tour (Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall, and Hanging Bridges) with tour guide Raul and driver Joel. This was one of our favorite parts of the trip! Joel picked us up right on time and had waters for everyone throughout the day. The itinerary was perfectly spaced out so we didn’t feel rushed at any of the locations and were able to enjoy an amazing meal at a local restaurant. Everything was gorgeous and we got to see so many animals! We also can’t say enough good things about Raul. He was a perfect tour guide - kind, knowledgeable, hilarious, and clearly has a passion for what he does. He also took some amazing photos and videos! We would recommend this tour and Raul/Joel to anyone!

Got picked up at our Hotel Volcano Lodge and Thermal Experience by Angelica and driver Henry. Van had 4 groups including my family.First stop was Mystic Hanging Bridges where we crossed about 12 hanging bridges Angelica was a pro in pointing out wildlife and sharing information about the habitats and forrest. Next stop was arenal volcano where we were giving a brief history and hiked for an hour. Next was lunch at a soda in la Fortuna. So delicious had mango juice choices wer all types of protein and vegetarian. Last was the La Fortuna waterfall due to the rain the waterfall was closed but we were able to take breath taking photos nonetheless and dip in the river. Be prepared ascending and descending the waterfall about 100 steps good workput! Wear hiking / comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking. Water is provided bring some snacks or eat breakfast. Activity from start to finish was around 8 hours. Amazing staff Henry was a safe driver. Angelica was very entertaining, patient, knowledgable and a great person like everyone we experienced on this trip so far. Worth the purchase for the experience!! Bring bathing suits, water, sunscreen, bugspray, hat and a sense of humor! Pura Vida totalmente!!!!

A group of friends and myself booked this activity and we knew it was going to be a great experience, but it ended up exceeding our expectations. Jose (Pepe) and Joel picked us up at our hotel right on time and we proceeded with our day. We were provided with water and delicious food for lunch. Pepe was our guide and he was the best we could've asked for. We knew we'd get to sight-see throughout the hike, but we didn't expect Pepe to be as informative and seek out wildlife for us to see the way he did. He started as our guide, and ended as our friend. Thank you Pepe!! Everything about the trip went perfectly well, from beginning to end. I would recommend that if you are able to - definitely do the full day experience, it's a long day but it goes by fast and you are able to see so much. It is 100% worth it.

This activity was the perfect way to start our adventure in Costa Rica. Our guide, Juan Carlos, was very knowledgeable about all activities we did as well as the history of the area. Lunch was a traditional Costa Rican meal at a local restaurant and was fabulous. Our driver Jorge was great as well. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see multiple attractions in one day with a small group so you can really enjoy it all. My favorite part was all the wildlife that Juan Carlos was able to spot along our hikes. We would’ve never seen any of them without his experienced eye. They even stopped on the drive back to our hotel when he spotted a toucan up on a tree beside the road so we could get a picture. Top notch experience!!

My family of four (including 15 yr old boy and 13 yr old girl) had a wonderful time on this excursion! Our guide was Roy, and he went the extra mile to make sure we saw wildlife and got good pictures. On his own (not part of the tour) he toted a professional grade camera on our extensive walk to capture great images with his telephoto lens. He let us see through the lens, and shared the pictures with us afterwards. He also let each group pose for a beautiful, professional-grade photo with the beautiful sights behind us! For me, the highlight of this full day was the volcano hike. He let us choose the level of difficulty for parts of it, and those of us who chose the "more challenging" path felt it was worth it. Great sights from higher points. And Roy included great information about the history of the Volcano and eruptions of other volcanos. We also enjoyed the picturesque views from the multiple hanging bridges. Visiting La Fortuna waterfall was pretty, but swimming at the base of the waterfall didn't meet our expectations. I'm glad I did it, but it was rocky (large boulders) and crowded. Mostly a good photo opportunity. And it was an opportunity for real exercise (500 steps down and 500 steps walking back up!). We didn't actually visit a local village, but we did have a very tasty lunch. And there were options for every diet: vegetarian, fish, beef, pork, chicken. In short, a great day-long excursion to experience Arenal and the beauties of this region!

We did this tour with our teenage boys and everyone loved it! We were blessed with a nice day, no rain, and great views. We especially liked the hanging bridges walk. Our tour guide Erika was very knowledgeable about the plants and animals. We saw poison dart frogs, lizards, a bat, and monkeys! On the volcano hike she was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and even took us back on a shaded path. The lunch was good and the waterfall was really unique.
Water shoes are a must for the waterfall. The volcano hike has a lot of unstable ground so sneakers or hiking shoes for that. We had a wet bag which was helpful at the volcano even though it didn’t rain.
Our tour had 12 people, half Spanish speaking and half English so Erika had to say everything twice. For future tours I would recommend grouping people together for just one language if possible.
The day is very active with short times for bathroom breaks and putting on sunscreen and bug spray. Water is provided, which was much appreciated!

I am staying at Secrets in Papagayo. How many hours is it to La Fortuna? What time does the excursion start? Where would I have to drive to? I have 6 people who are interested in this excursion.

We traveled from San Jose to La Fortuna the day before our tour and hired a private shuttle company instead of renting a car. We used tropical tour shuttles. We stayed at Royal Corin Hotel in La Fortuna and the tour group picked us up at our hotel around 7 am. They also returned us to our hotel around 5 pm in the afternoon.

Hi There I just booked the Hanging bridges, la fortuna waterfall, typical lunch and arenal volcano hike (9 hours) through trip advisor. I got a booking reference number but no confirmation email and not information about whether my airbnb address will be ok for pick up.

I will be traveling with my 2 children, 2yrs and 4yrs. I do not see the ability to reserve tickets for anyone under the age of 5. Is it not recommended I bring young children or are young children free?
Written 20 June 2022
I would not recommend this for young children at all. You can’t bring any type of stroller and there is a lot of walking.
