    Don Juan Tours La Fortuna
Stop: 2 hours - Admission included
Don Juan Tours Arenal is a family business that through its tours teach visitors the whole process behind two very important products worldwide, Coffee and Chocolate. Our experience: Don Juan - Coffee and Chocolate Tour, will take you to know the entire Coffee process, from the seed to the delicious cup of coffee. Once the coffee tour is finished, we will start with the sweetest part of the tour, the delicious chocolate. Like coffee, we will talk about the entire Chocolate process, from the seed to the delicious chocolate bar and we will end up selecting some members of the group to grind the cacao beans and make their own chocolate bar. Once finished you will have the opportunity to taste several types of chocolate such as Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and White Chocolate. One of our main features is the infrastructure we have, since the Arenal Area is well known for having a very changing climate, it goes from being very sunny and humid to heavy rains, even with a electric storms on some occasions, that is why that 100% of our trails are protected and made of cement, which will allow to enjoy the tour on sunny or rainy days. Families with children who need to take their stroller or people with some physical limitation will not have trouble walking with a walker, crutches or wheelchair.

Jorge was our guide for the chocolate and coffee tour, and he was simply outstanding!!! We booked this on a whim, and it was so much more impressive than we ever could’ve expected. Anybody who has an interest in horticulture, science, or simply chocolate/coffee will love this. The amount of detail, information, and explanation we received around the processes for making chocolate and coffee was amazing. You really start from the plant and go through the whole process of how we get to the end results. They were also some very cool options to taste smell see things along the way. A great and very reasonably priced gift shop at the end was also awesome as we brought home chocolate, wine, tea, and souvenirs.

When we first drove up and saw it was $40 a person for a short tour, we were like maybe we'll skip it. Thankfully, we didn't. On the tour, we learned a lot about the harvesting and making of both chocolate and coffee. We tasted the fruit of the cocoa plant. Kinda tastes like lychee; had no idea prior. Got to make our own chocolate bars from raw chocolate power. Word of advice, use much less salt than you think you will need and taste frequently. Go early so you can appreciate the coffee samples you will get to taste.

The tour was very well organized and it’s easy access for wheel chair & disabled. The information and demonstrations were well explained and easy to follow orally and visually. You get to make your own chocolate bar how cool is that! It totally changes the way I will buy, prepare and drink my coffee from now on. I will always appreciate my chocolate when eating it much more, lol.
I find most Costa Rican tours are way over priced compared to many countries, but this tour was the closest I found worth the price, still high, but very good.

My family of 4 - kids age 7 and 8 - did the coffee/chocolate tour with Don Juan. We loved the entire experience. It was interesting, educational, and moved at the perfect pace to keep the kids entertained. A highlight for the kids was grinding coffee, trying the cacao bean, and making their own chocolate bars. I was fearful that the kids would be bored. We've been home for almost 2 weeks and they are still talking about the coffee and chocolate. Our guide was excellent - I highly recommend this tour.

Out of all the coffee and chocolate tours available in La Fortuna I picked this one, Don Juan Tours, and I’m glad I did because I wasn’t disappointed in the least. Our guide was Axle and he was very knowledgeable in chocolate and coffee growing and making. I learned more about coffee and chocolate in 2 hours then I knew my whole life. When you learn how mosquitoes are actually a big part in cacao you will be amazed. I drank more coffee the following 2 days then I had in a week back home. I read that someone said they don’t grow there own cacao and coffee beans here but they definitely do. I think that person took a tour here when they first opened up and hadn’t established a farm yet. You will see your guide actually pick cacao and coffee beans right from the plants.

I’ve been on quite a few tours all over the United States, and this tour is definitely the best I’ve experienced. I was a little confused at first, somehow not understanding that there were two Dom Juan tours, one in Fortuna, one in Monteverde. The Monteverde farm is primarily a coffee farm. The La Fortuna farm is officially a cocoa farm, but they have many, many other trees as well: coffee, cinnamon, black pepper, banana, etc. Alex, our tour guide, was fantastic, answering our questions about the whole farm. My husband and I loved the hands-on learning about the chocolate and coffee processes. We were also surprised to see a few animals :) I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but we both felt it was worth every penny.

Great tour... Brought 7 and 11 year old along and they really enjoyed it. This was very educational and our guide Axel did a wonderful job engaging the kids. The chocolate we made was just ok; the chocolate they served was phenomenal. The coffee story was great and the sampling at the end was worth the price of admission. We would do this again.

We were blown away by this tour! I expected we would sample some products see a bit of fields etc. Instead we walked a covered walkway where our guide Jorge would stop and show us a wide variety of different plants and how they all interact. We learned so much about different varieties and the ecosystem. Yes, we did get to taste chocolate, but there was the opportunity to make chocolate as well. We did learn a great deal about the history of coffee, different processing methods, and what goes into our favorite drink.

I think this is a tour teens could enjoy as well as adults. Smelling the cinnamon, coffee flowers, and different fruits along the way was quite enjoyable. Highly recommend!

This was a great tour! I have been on a couple of coffee tours before, but on this one I actually learn plenty of new stuff. Our guide was professional and could answer any kind of question (related to coffee or chocolate). The tour is interactive so you never feel bored. Took around one hour longer than advertised.
