This was my second tour of the and my guide was Ivan both times, he looked after the group very well and ensured that everyone had a good view with time to take photos. After a few minutes exploring alone Ivan announced that more than one turtle could be seen digging a nest for her eggs. while we waited for egg laying to start Ivan found a nest of turtle hatchlings just as the reach the surface, we were able to follow their progress down to the water. We then went back to the adult Green Turtle and watch her eggs being laid. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I recommend it.

We were driven to a dark deserted beach where we had to sit quietly under the light of the moon. After about half a hour large dark shapes( Green turtles) could be seen appearing from the ocean and moving up the beach, we all held our breath. We closely observed one, by the guide’s infra red light, who started to prepare a nest clearing sand with her back flippers. She was struggling as the sand was too dry so two of us gently helped her to dig deeper to a wetter level by moving the sand away with our hands. We were rewarded with a once in a lifetime experience as she started to lay her eggs. We watched her lay about fifty and then we respectfully retreated to leave her to finish her task and return to the ocean. We also saw new hatchlings making their first perilous journeys from the beach to the sea. One was momentarily grabbed by a Ghost crab and nearly did not make it but a guy in our party saved the day as he startled the crab and the hatchling managed to escape and took its first ever plunge into the Pacific waves. A totally awesome experience led by an excellent, knowledgeable guide that truly cared for the turtles and their habitat. This experience we will never forget.

What a great experience last night! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made sure to keep turtle safety and comfort in the forefront. We ended up seeing mama green turtles coming up on the beach, baby turtles coming out of their nest and making their way to the ocean, and a mama turtle laying eggs! Kids (9,6) had a great time. One note- we were gone for about four hours and the only bathroom is when you leave the office unless you are willing to pee outside.

Native’s Way Tours was terrific to work with. Morgan and other staff helped us set up a series of tours including a sunset catamaran, night time turtle nesting, and snorkeling. I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience.

Our tour guide for the turtle nesting tour, Ivan, was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions. He was respectful of the turtles and careful not to disturb them, which we greatly appreciated. He was friendly and kind and made the entire experience delightful.

Ivan found us a turtle. We watched the entire process, from her beginning to excavate her nest, to digging the deeper hole in which she buries her eggs, to laying ~75 eggs, to covering them in the end. We were able to lay on our bellies and watch, with our faces only about two feet from her tail.

It was an incredible and profound experience. It was one of the things I most wanted to see while in Costa Rica and it far exceeded my expectations. Native’s Way Tours was instrumental in this process. You’ll be in good hands working with them!! I couldn’t recommend them more.

Thank you Morgan, Ivan, and others for making our time in Costa Rica so magical!

The guide was amazing. He found 3 huge turtles nesting and laying eggs and baby turtles. Only 3 stars and no tip because there was no enforcement of mask wearing on the small bus. We are 75 years old and were afraid to be quarantined if we tested positive the day before our return home. It would have cost us $1,000’s. Also, the meeting location was very out of the way and difficult to find. To make matters worse, the person in charge made the bus turn around after driving 10 minutes to pick up a guy who showed up late!

This was an absolutely amazing experience and it was thanks to the expertise and organisation of the guide that it was so good. He clearly knew his stuff and was able to provide information and answer any questions on turtles. This included where to find the turtles (both hatchlings and mothers laying eggs) and was skilfully able to direct our group around a dark beach so as minimise and give respect to the turtles and their habitat without disturbing them. Would highly recommend.

Ivan, our guide, was great. He let us know what to expect and made sure that everyone knew the rules. I also liked that the different tour guides work together and there does not seem to be rivalry between operators. Overall, it was really exciting seeing baby and mama turtles. My only hesitation about the experience is that it felt somewhat invasive (especially around the mamas). I know that the guides are trying to bring the best experience to guests, but in doing so, they disturb mama by moving sand out of the way, putting lights over her nest, and even moving her back flippers out of the way so that everyone could see her dropping eggs. Crowds of people surround her, during the egg-laying, and follow her (too closely IMHO) while she makes her way back to the ocean. I do wonder if this stresses her out. The baby turtles also seemed confused by the red light and our guide had to show them to the ocean (in nature, they are guided by moonlight). Just be aware that by participating in this, we are not having zero impact.

The tour guide worked diligently managing the safety and experience of the guests and the turtles. We saw two Pacific Greens heading back to the water after laying their eggs and we were all very happy. The guide encouraged us to stay for another half an hour and our patience was rewarded. A Pacific Green came out of the water and laid her eggs right in front of us!

Incredible!!
It was without a doubt the most impressive night of my life, seeing turtles and at the same time having a sky full of stars above us was an experience beyond my expectations.
Iván, the guide, is undoubtedly very respectful of the natural environment and always kept us informed about what the turtles were doing.
4 turtles in one night!
