    Stop: 3 hours
We’ll meet on Playa Tamarindo, directly in-front of El Chiringuito Restaurant, where rest rooms are available. We’ll cover some important safety information and correct kayaking technique, before paddling approximately 25 minutes across the ocean. Once reaching the island we’ll land on white sands to explore the lava fields and rock formations caused by a volcanic eruption, and different vegetation; including cactuses and Agave. We’ll visit a unique beach where a great variety of shells can be found. Within the vegetation we’ll also observe a variety of wildlife; different crab species and nesting birds. In the clear water tide pools we’ll see sea urchins, brittle star fish, sea cucumbers, trilobites and fish. There are a couple of blow holes and other interesting things. The island is surrounded by clear waters, perfect for snorkling! We’ll stop at a couple of different points to seek out fish and other marine wildlife, before breaking for some refreshing fruit and snacks and heading back by kayak to Tamarindo Beach.

I’m hesitant to post too many photos because everyone should be surprised when they start exploring the island! Tom was an amazing guide and met us right on the beach for a quick ocean kayak lesson before heading out. The wind wasn’t too bad the afternoon of our trip so the paddle out from the beach to capitan wasn’t difficult. Once on the island I was amazed! So many creatures and natural formations. Tom was so wonderful at telling the story of the island and sporting all the hidden treasures. It’s really worth being surprised by everything. Following the hike, we had the opportunity to do some snorkeling and there was bountiful fish amongst the lava rock formations. Kayaking back was really fun especially since we got to ride a wave into shore (make sure you put your stuff in the supplies dry pack!). This is a must do afternoon excursion in tamarindo!

Awesome trip!! Luis was amazing and the kayaking was a ton of fun, even in the strong winds we managed to make it. Then when on the island he showed us around the whole place and all the weird sea creepy crawlies! Highly recommend

My husband and I had a great adventure with Tom. The highlight was definitely being on the island and being amazed by all the creatures under rocks and in tide pools. We learned a lot!!! The snorkeling was a bit murky but okay and the kayaking was just transportation across as it was too windy to paddle around. Highly recommend - Tom is an intelligent, funny guy!

This was an adventure out to the small Captain Island. Super fun trip on the open water. Island itself is fantastic with lots of interesting wild life.

Loved this tour to Capitan Island. While it is small, the island is home to much marine life. Our guide, Tom, showed us hermit crabs, large colorful crabs, sea urchins, cucumbers, slugs, anemones, starFish and while I didn’t snorkel, my family did and enjoyed the clear water and some pretty, nice-sized fish. He also demonstrated the island’s blow hole. Tom was very knowledgeable and while he was stern in the beginning (for safety’s sake) he was quite entertaining on the island. If the wind is up, it will be a difficult kayak trip for beginners or children. I’d do this trip again. Enjoyed it immensely.

The kayaking and snorkeling experience was fun. We even had a chance to tour the island. We were encouraged to flip over rocks to get a view of the creatures that may be living on or under the rocks. We found sea cucumbers, starfish, sea urchins and so much more.
