A very enjoyable, gentle exploration of the mangrove forest by kayak. With our very knowledgeable guide Esteban. We enjoyed the peace of the forest from the kayak, saw some wildlife, lizards and birds. Esteban explained how the mangrove forest came to be in Costa Rica, how they grow, how the leaf system works, how important the mangroves are for the ecology of the area and how many other animals and plants need the mangroves. Esteban also demonstrated how to open up a coconut, drink the milk and eat the lining and how to make a non alcoholic Pina Colada! One word of advice, avoid getting sun burnt, wear long sleeved clothes and maybe leg covering and use a lot of sunscreen. We both got burned in areas we forgot to apply a lot of factor 50!

What a wonderful place, staff and tour! Make sure you treat yourself in the little cafe they have and pet the lovely cats! Our guide lino was so sweet and knowledgeable about the mangrove ecosystem. This company really make sure they fulfill all three sustainable dimensions. Everything from supporting a local community and economy to respecting the wildlife and taking a few minutes to just listen to the noise of the jungle and encourage us to live in the moment. We got treated to a swim before heading back and our guide showed us how to crack a coconut and make a pina colada.

What a wonderful day. Alberto was our mangrove kayak guide. He was amazing! Knowledgeable about the mangroves and the animals who reside within. He answered all of our questions with ease and a smile. I highly recommend Aventuras Tropicales for your Mangrove tour needs. Great for singles, couples and families. Alberto went above and beyond to assist us even after the tour was complete. Our vehicle would not start, and Alberto came to the rescue. Incredibly enough, he was able to get our vehicle started, and we were on our way. Kind beyond measure!

We loved our kayaking tour through the primary mangrove forest. Our guide taught us about the difference between the red and black mangroves, and she described some adaptations for each. Highly recommend this tour!

We went on both their mangrove tour and their sunset + bioluminescence your later. They provide everything. The groups are very small (We had 3-5 kayaks on each), We have never seen anything like what we saw in their bioluminescence tour in our lives! It was truly magical!!
My husband left his camera there and Laura called several times to try to find us and eventually she put it on a plane so we could pick it up in San Jose before we left the country the next day. Exceptional service! Thank you!!

We actually didn't plan to stop in Puerto Jimenez but after a good recommendation we decided to do this tour. And it was all worth. It has been one of our favourite tour so far. While paddling through the mangroves we've seen lots of animals. We enjoyed a private tour guided by lovely Alberto sen. Alberto has a huge knowledge about nature which he shared with us in perfect english. We had a stop at the beach with a fresh fruit snack before we swam and paddled in the ocean. To see the bioluminescence was just unbelievable.

We loved the half day mangrove kayak tour. Diego was a fantastic guide, and was great at giving us kayaking tips as well as spotting wildlife and teaching us about the area.
Near the end of the tour, we stopped and had a chance to swim in the gulf (perfect water!) and Diego cut up fresh pineapple and coconut. I will be forever sad when I have pineapple at home because it will never live up to the pineapple we had on the tour!
Staff is friendly and helpful at the main office and stored our bags with them, and there was also a place to rinse off our feet. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked.
Be sure to put on a lot of sunscreen and bring water, since the beginning and end of the trip is not as shaded.
One of the highlights of our trip, would absolutely recommend!

By far our groups favorite activity. The guides are extremely nice, knowledgeable, and fun. They prepared an amazing lunch for us as well as two snacks through out the day. They will teach you how to open a coconut with a stick and it will blow your mind. I wish we could have had these guides for all of our activities in Costa Rica! They know a lot about the area and are fun to spend the day with.

1. Guide Laura taught us how to open a coconut with merely a hardwood stick on the beach. I tried her method the following day in Corcovado and the rangers were impressed, for a gringo.
2. The deeper into the mangroves we paddled, the bigger the wildlife got. Crabs, raccoons, birds, and fish. Hoped to see some reptiles but they were hard to spot. We had heard howler monkeys all week and finally saw one.
3. The kayaks are handmade by the owner! They track with ease across the gulf and up the river. Superior boats to the rotomolded plastic ones from sporting goods stores.
4. Beach for snacks had great view of sunset, soft sand, and all the pineapple we could eat.
5. Moonlight / dark paddle across the gulf after snacks was beautiful and calm, our first time paddling at night. Wish we could have gone further!
