Overview
Trade your smooth-sailing cruise ship with a wild Tomcar ride on this 3-hour off-roading shore excursion from Ketchikan. Following an experienced guide, steer a Tomcar utility vehicle seating two along unpaved mountain paths and admire wildlife, waterfalls and the breathtaking scenery of Behm Canal, the Inside Passage and Tongass National Forest. Expect the ride to be bumpy — and dirty — but the thrills and views are totally worth it.
What to Expect
When your cruise ship arrives in Ketchikan, stay at the port, where your shore excursion begins with pickup by coach for the 30-minute drive into the rainforest.

Arrive at the base camp and start your Alaskan off-roading adventure with a safety briefing about how to maneuver your Tomcar, the off-road utility vehicle used on the tour. Then put on your gear, including helmet, and hop in your 2-person Tomcar! You can take the wheel or ride in the passenger seat as you follow your guide into the wilderness, but everyone will have the opportunity to drive.

Drive along the 14 miles of bumpy tracks, enjoying the experience of being in the Alaskan backcountry. At the direction of your guide, stop along the way at lookout points to take photos of waterfalls and admire the views of Behm Canal, Clover Passage, Tongass National Forest and the Inside Passage.

Watch for native wildlife like deer, eagles or possibly even a bear, and stop midway through to enjoy a light snack and some water. At this point, you can change drivers if you wish before heading back to base camp, where you can browse for souvenirs in the gift shop or purchase action photos from the tour, if you'd like.
Your shore excursion ends as you are returned by coach to the port in Ketchikan.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return to the Ketchikan port for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

Tomcar fun!

I'd never driven a Tomcar before. It was fun. Because I didn't have a friend or partner, I was teamed up with another solo lady. She drove first then I drove on the return. I must admit I was hoping for a longer drive time...More

Don't book the Carnival Legend One

Booked the Family Rainforest Adventure on the carnival Legend, August 19. Cost $250.00 a person, worth maybe half that. The whole "adventure" covered maybe two miles on a gravel road with some pancakes and marshmallows. May not be the same as the tour above, but...More
