Best Tour Guide Ever
Feb 2020
We booked this one day tour in Buenos Aires with Cultura Cercana during a cruise. My wife and I have visited well over 100 countries and have hired private guides all over the world. We learned long ago that with private tours you get what you pay for and have used Cultura in a number of Argentina, Uruguay and Chilean cities and they never disappointed us with the guides they provide. Our guide in Buenos Aires was one of the best guides we’ve every had anywhere. His name was Rosty (Rostyslav Shkiro). His English was perfect, his cultural and historical knowledge of Buenos Aires was exceptional (he has 3 Masters Degrees) and his personality infectious. Rosty toured with us and a driver was also included because it is difficult to park near many of the sites in BA. Rosty also took us to a great local neighborhood restaurant for lunch (not included in the fee). When you book you will probably be dealing with Sofia at Cultura and she is tremendous. She was on top of everything, answered communications rapidly and gave us great advice about wonderful restaurants in BA.

Rusty was fantastic!
What a fabulous way to see Buenos Aires! We were a group of seven people and blessed to have Rusty as our guide. He went out of his way to ensure we learned so much about Buenos Aires. Best guide ever! Thank you Cultura.

A PERFECT introduction to BA & its history...
Jan 2020
We just completed a full-day tour of Buenos Aires and are eager to share our impressions of this excellent tour.

Out guide was Rosty and our driver was Daniele. Both were excellent, in EVERY way!

Rosty is a teacher by profession and, although not a native of Argentina, demonstrates his love for the country, for BA, and for the rich heritage of both. This, combined with his mastery of English, made for a unique and special experience. As he put it, "Argentina is my country".

There was no aspect of the tour, among the many "neighborhoods" we visited, that was lacking. In each section of the city, Rosty explained not only what we were seeing, but gave a historical perspective that greatly added to our understanding and appreciation of this marvelous city. Truly, BA is the "Paris of the Americas".

Additionally, we took Rosty's recommendation for our mid-afternoon meal. It was at a historic "bar", one of the oldest in BA, but one that is frequented almost exclusively by locals. Our meal was reasonably priced and was superb!

Lastly, because of this experience with Cultura, we would not hesitate to reserve with them on future trips to South America. We had previously booked tours through Princess on this last cruise, and were satisfied. However, a 'private' tour, such as with Cultura, was much more satisfying.

I'm not sure if Cultura provides tours in Brasil, but I would be eager to go with them in Rio, when we return to South America again.

Thank you Rosty & Daniele (and also Sofia, who was our contact during the booking process)... it was perfect in every way!

Robert & Cindy.

Excellent-- guide, driver, saw more than we could have on our own
Dec 2019
This tour was excellent in every way -- from the driver, the car and the extremely knowledgeable guide. Rusty/Ross was our guide and Daniel was the driver.

They promptly picked us up at our hotel. Rusty showed us some "hidden gems" of the city in addition to the main sites we requested. The car was clean; having the car with an experienced driver allowed us to get through the city to see more sites in the short 7 hours.

We had a list of what we wanted to see and our guide and driver panned the route to allow maximum time.

Rusty/Ross was well versed in history and current knowledge. He provided good background and took good care of us everywhere we went. Having a dedicated car and driver allowed us to get to more places than if we had to wait for a taxi or other transport.

We did some walking in the area with Rosada, etc as well as within the cemetery. Our guide had multiple university degrees as well as certificates to guide tourists.

We went to special places we requested, such as the Argentine section of the major art gallery as well as the world's most beautiful book store.

He gave us options for lunch; we chose the empanadas--the best we ever tasted.

We highly recommend this tour company.

Excellent with our tour guide Mercedes.
Jan 2019 • Couples
We were on a Princess cruise and 12 of us booked the Buenos Aires City Tour. Mercedes took us on a very nice and informative tour of the city. We went to the Recoleta cemetery and she told us stories about many of the statues. We also went to the church next door. She then took us to a square downtown where we spent a good amount of time. We saw the Casa Rosada and went into the Metropolitan Cathedral among other things. We decided to all eat together so she made reservations at a very nice restaurant where we had a leisurely lunch. Our last stop was at the colorful La Boca district. I would recommend Cultura Cercana Tours.

Walking Tours of Buenos Aires
Dec 2017 • Couples
First, on a five-star scale, we would give Cultura Cercana, and specifically Luciana Zgryzek, six stars. She was that good in organizing things and checking that all was well. We also had a great guide for walking tours of Buenos Aires, Mirta.

We did a lot to learn about Argentina prior to our trip and we would like to make some recommendations First, there are some really excellent movies to watch:

“The Secret in Their Eyes” is a unique love story that gently introduces Argentina

“Wild Tales” is extremely funny and introduces the frustrations of Argentines feel about life

“Live-in Maid” is a very good human interest story with a lot about every day issues

“The Official Story” introduces issues in the period when people “disappeared” – stressful to watch

“Nine Queens” is a slick story with some kind of world record for plot reversals

“Kiss of the Spider Woman” introduces issues in the repressive past and has a remarkable performance by William Hurt

Now books to read:

You have to read Borges to appreciate Argentine literature. “Ficciones” is the place to start and if you want more go to “Labyrinths”.

A fascinating and little-known aspect of history is the Jesuit Republic in the 17th and 18th centuries. “The Lost Paradise” by Caraman is an excellent description, and adds a lot of meaning to visits to the ruins of some of the towns established, e.g., San Ignacio Mini. For those in the SW US, there is a strong link to the missions established by Father Kino.

By the way, the church of San Ignacio in Buenos Aires is from the same era, built for Jesuits, and its architect also designed some of the churches for the Republic. Good to visit, also for its connections with Pope Francis.

Back to books. You might also read a history of the country to understand its ups and down. There are a number of possibilities. But more fun is “The Invention of Morel” by Casares, a short fantasy that is so well done you will never forget it. “Martin Fierro” is also a must. If you have time for more, try “The Tango Singer” by Martinez, placed all over Buenos Aires and one of Luciana’s favorites. “El Tunel” by Sabato is also excellent as a somewhat disturbing psychological study. And of course “Kiss of the Spider Woman” by Puig in print is great, particularly if you do not get to the movie.

Oh yes, if you should see the Water Palace. More even than the mansions, it makes clear how grand Buenos Aires was at the beginning of the 20th century, and it is not prominently listed as a site to visit. See if you can synchronize with the brief openings of the museum.

Excellent From Planning to Completion
Nov 2017 • Couples
Communication and suggestions were excellent. Thanks Luciana. Our guide/boat driver, Andres, was superior in every way. His knowledge, flexibility and pleasant personality made both our tours wonderful.
The Delta Tigre boat ride and Northern Suburbs tour was highlighted by a boat ride in this water community and lunch at a quaint restaurant on the water. Our wife's might say the highlight was the many markets and shopping.(lol).

Our second day we did the Buenos. Aires City Tour and enjoyed the many historic places toonumerous to list. The flexibility in seeing the things we wanted and the ability to create a personal tour is very rare and wonderful. Since we had a late night flight Cultura arranged to pick up our luggage when we disembarked our cruise ship and end the tour at the airport. I must say the cost of the tours for the four of us was much less than the cruise ship prices and certainly better.

Thanks Cultura Cervantes Tours

Full Day & Half Day Walking Tours
Aug 2017
Our fabulous guide Andres had great local knowledge and gave us a good insight not only on the country's history but on current affairs as well. I highly recommend the walking tours as it is a great way to see the city. It was very interesting to use public transport. We were staying in Buenos Aires for 6 days and we had the walking tours on our first and second day which was great as it was a good introduction to the city and we were more confident in navigating the city on our own afterwards.
Cultura Cercana are great! So professional, so easy to deal with and so very accomodating. I can't praise them enough! You won't be disappointed.
