Phil Rocks! We did the Old and New Downtown LA walking tour with our tour guide Phil and it was fantastic. Phil is extremely knowledgable about the history, architecture and cultures of LA. He is well researched and has great qualifications for this role. The tour was extremely informative and well worth the two hours at a reasonable price. This was one of many walking tours we have done in other cities and we highly recommend this one for the quality and experience.

This 2-hour walking tour starting at Angel’s Flight Railway and ending at Pershing Square is a very good introduction to historic downtown LA as well as recent buildings. Our tour guide Phil is very knowledgeable and makes the tour very interesting with his stories and historic photographs of the heydays of Broadway and other areas. One of the highlights is definitely the 1893 Bradbury Building with an exceptional skylit atrium and fine ornate ironwork. It was a very enjoyable experience and the small group of 13 people didn’t feel overcrowded. There's no better way to experience the historic buildings and surroundings than a walking tour.

Our guide Phil was very knowledge about the history of Los Angeles and really brought the old downtown to life. Even my wife, a native Angelino, learned a lot from our 2 hours with Phil. We've been on many walking tours and highly recommend this one.

Phil was great! He’s a fantastic story teller and super knowledgeable. He told us about LA history, architecture and urban planning, and answered all of our questions. The tour itself covered a lot of ground but has lots of stops so everyone still had energy by the end. Definitely recommend!

My husband and I had a wonderful tour of downtown LA. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. We’ve visited DTLA a handful of times, but this gave us such a clearer picture of the history and points of interest.

My husband and I just finished a 2 hour tour with Phil. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour. Phil is very knowledgeable, professional and fun! It was interesting to hear how LA grew to be the city that it is today.
We took the subway down and followed the detailed directions that were emailed to us. It was a great afternoon despite the heat.
Phil tries to keep you in the shade as much as possible.
We are looking forward to going on more tours with LA Walking Tours.

We loved this tour! Michael, our excellent tour guide, explained so much about the history of Downtown and it's evolution from the 1800's to today as reflected in the architecture, old and new, of Downtown. I'm a native of L.A. and couldn't believe how much I didn't know! I highly recommend this tour!

My partner and I recently did the Old and New Downtown LA walking tour. We had a really enjoyable time.

Our guide on the day was Nikki. A native of Florida, and a writer, Nikki moved to LA with a friend who didn't want to make the move by herself.

Our group was small: two Aussies (that would be us); a cute student at UCLA and her dad from Michigan; and a couple from Singapore who divide their time between Singapore and Melbourne Australia.

The tour starting point was easy to find. We were immediately greeted by a warm and welcoming Nikki and we set out on the tour. Good walking tours take you to places you might not otherwise find on your own, and they give you a glimpse into time, place and culture.

The Old and New tour is themed around history and changes in the downtown area. It's a story of what has been lost (Broadway and a once-vibrant theatre district); preserved (the beautiful lobby of the Bradbury building); and new (people wanting to live in downtown).

The stops on the tour are all interesting. Nikki weaves together historical facts, popular culture and film references, images on an iPad, and her own personal experience of choosing to move to and live in LA.

I found this tour a really enjoyable way of gaining an insight into the downtown area. Nikki and the group were a great bunch of people to spend a couple of hours with.

This tour is well worth doing.

Our tour, lead by budding famous historical novelist and all-around interesting person Nikki, was one of the highlights of our 4-day stay in downtown LA. She knows all the most interesting (and salacious) details about Downtown's history, and her insights into Downtown's recent gentrification and homeless problems were incisive and provocative. If you're all crazy to date someone interesting, wouldn't you want to find out a little about him/her before you go away for a whirlwind weekend? If you want to spend a whirlwind weekend in Downtown LA, wouldn't you like to know more about this fascinating place? Get the real truth about Olvera Street! One of the most famous names in entertainment history used to stop in nearly daily at Clifton's Cafeteria -- Nikki knows who! (And she'll tell you that fact and around 500 more with you in less than 2 hours.) Super fun, super interesting! And be sure and get her autograph!!

The tour guide made the tour very interesting, peppered with information and history.
The landmarks and monuments visited on the "La Beginnings" tour were interesting.
It's always so much more experiential to explore on foot rather than by vehicle.
