Overview

Led by an expert from the Chicago Architecture Foundation, you'll visit the must-see highlights of Chicago's famous architectural gems on this walking tour of the Loop. Stop at some of the city's oldest skyscrapers to better understand the genesis of the Chicago School of architecture. Those looking to dive deep into Chicago history and architecture will lap up the sophisticated commentary.

What to Expect

Meet your guide and group of fellow architecture and history buffs at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, located across from the Art Institute of Chicago on Michigan Avenue.

Head into Chicago's Loop area, chock-full of architectural gems that tell the story of the city. As you walk, your guide will take you inside important buildings that you may not have entered if exploring on your own. You’ll hear the detailed history of each one and how it helped to shape the city as we know it today.

Stop at some of the city's earliest skyscrapers, dating from the 1870s to 1930s, and learn about the architects who helped to build the Chicago skyline. Highlights include the art-deco Chicago Board of Trade Building; Auditorium Building, designed by Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler; and Rookery, a National Historic Landmark.

You’ll end your tour at the starting point.

Fabulous tour

It was incredible to hear about the history of Chicago. The tour was an easy stroll. There are little radio/earplugs to hear the guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly.

This was a wonderful walking tour and educational experience about the Chicago Commercial Style of architecture, exemplified in early skyscrapers. Our guide was wonderful in explaining and educating without being too technical. By the end of the tour, I really felt I knew more and...More

Why advertise 365 days if not available

There is no availability beyond end June 2018 so it is unhelpful and misleading to advertise 365 day availability. Can you correct your site or open up bookings for July 2018 and beyond. Thank you
