      avoid murder mystery dinner!!!
Do not do this! It's not a real castle, it's a home, that looks like a castle. Slightly rundown. The murder mystery production was really really terrible. Two people, one of whom did not know her lines, read from a script, still got lost. It was very uncomfortable for the audience. The story did not track well, and with the room setup, and acoustics,, we could not hear what was being said at the oppostite end of the space. No sound system. They asked the audience to play parts, which can backfire...no stage, no sets. I felt like we were almost scammed. The dinner, which they pay to have catered in, was really average. I would have been okay with the dinner, if the show was reasonable. It WAS NOT!!! Run away, don't waste your $50 pp.

      What the Hell!
I drove 90 miles to come see this castle. I plug in my electric car nearby and walk in. I get the the castle and see an "OPEN" sign at the front so I enter to buy my tickets. I see others inside and we begin to talk when a lady comes out and talks to the group. I state that I am not with them, just here to pay for a tour. She cut me off screaming that I am trespassing and runs to escort me out. After reaching for me to push me out she sees a car in the parking lot that pulled up as I walked up. She immediately runs at it screaming. The lady is very unprofessional and crazy. It wasn't till I walked out a completely different way that I saw a small sign stating that tickets were only paid online.

The real review you should read
Ok, things to know upfront...I read reviews with caution. Some people just like to complain, are too uptight, and don't know how to relax and/or have fun; or people just have different tastes about what's fun or worthwhile. That said, please do yourself and your families/friends a favor and skip this castle (and especially the escape room). First, and to very clear, it is NOT a castle at all. It's surrounded by barbed wire, and nothing more than an old larger-than-a-typical-home structure oddly placed in the middle of typical town streets w/ gas stations on the corner, etc. The escape room is simply pathetic (no real respectful way to put it- sorry). Just don't- a couple of 10 yr old boys could've put together a more professional and interesting escape room w/ no props. Please trust me on this- and we are an easy to please family. We left actually shaking our heads, and laughing, thinking we were being pranked/punked and someone would walk out and say, "Just kidding! Now let's give you the real escape room and real castle." But, no, that didn't happen. So, we thought we'd at least get to walk around the castle and check out the "history." But, no, that would be an additional fee we were told. We were literally quickly and oddly ushered away saying that we "couldn't walk around at all or beyond the front room cordened off unless you pay for the castle tour." If you want to literally throw away your money and have the most absurd, ridiculous, shaking-your-head experience than this is the place for sure.

Too many people to enjoy the ghosts
What was advertised as a small group of up to 15 people turned out there were 44 of us on the tour. That is way too many people to move from room to room. Our guide was great and energetic, but the size of group made it difficult to enjoy the tour

      Don’t go
Waste of time. I would not waste my time. They try to make it scary and tell you to invite spirits in

      Happily Surprised!
We were no sure what we were getting into but we really enjoyed this tour. It was more interactive than any other ghost tour I've been on! Price was very affordable! Mary Beth did a great job!

      Fun Tour
There’s not much to do in Springfield, but this tour was a good choice. It was a very large group (40-50 people), instead of the small group tour they advertise. It didn’t compromise the experience, fortunately. You also get to learn about the history of the castle, which is very interesting.

      Unique Experience
This was an interesting and new visit for my sister and I on a recent trip to Branson. The night we went there was a thunder and lightning storm, we could not have planned it any better. The castle is beautiful. From the moment you walk in you can feel the history. The tour was about 15-20 actual people. We saw the girls and boys dorms, dining room, dungeon, steam tunnel, the chair room and several other rooms. The tour lasted about 1.5 hours for $30. The tour guide was very nice. I would have loved to spend more time in the mansion. Did I see or hear anything?? Well…you go and visit, see what you find.

      A Great Haunting Experience!
This was an awesome tour. We actually caught a spirit on camara, as well as an awesome evp! We heard voices and definitely felt the spirits haunting the castle from the beginning. I highly recommend!

      No thanks
Complete waste of time. It is so weird that you have to pass by all of the fences with barbed wire on them. It just does not feel safe.

Waste of money at the Pythian Castle
We did the murder mystery dinner. Food was below good. During the show, someone had to continuously give the actors their lines over a loud speaker. Audience participation was stupid. Over $95 and wasn’t worth even $20. Wow, never again to something like that at the Pythian castle !!

Our experience was amazing, everyone was friendly, the tourist explained everything so throughly and made things fun.
The history behind the Castle! We caught so many faces in our pictures and even seen the boot man! There was a video we caught an evp!

      Fantastic!
This was so fun!! The guide was fantastic and the castle was amazing. When we asked if there were any spirits to cross the dousing wires, they did. I got some great pics of orbs and lights too. I'd do again. It was the best $20 I ever spent.

The History Tour is not a family-friendly activity. The tour guide does a LOT of talking, sharing odd and unnecessary details as told from third-hand accounts. If you’re traveling with young children, don’t waste your time. My kids have been to and enjoyed dozens of museums and other historic sites, but they were utterly bored by this one. The details within the castle aren’t even enough to make up for the ridiculously dull tour; decor is a hodge-podge of eras. I’ve visited plenty of historic homes across the country (Mount Vernon, Arbor Lodge, Arlington House, Crescent Hotel, Adam’s Mansion, Joslyn Mansion, etc.) and without a doubt, this one is at the bottom of the list.

I took my kids on an afternoon tour in October. The castle was decorated for Halloween and they absolutely loved it. It was just us so the lady took her time and showed us around everything and told us the history and made friendly conversation. She was great with the kids as well and let them take pictures in the solitary confinement "room". Jump on the bouncy floor which was once used as a gym I believe. They got on the stage and pretended to sing with the Skelton band. It was a great time. They didn't just goof off, we did learn the history as well. We will be going back again when dad can come along and not have to work.

Had some spare time to kill on a quick pass thru and chose this. It is a beautiful location and the history of it was interesting but....it was hard to hear our tour guide as she had on a mask and there was no microphone. Some places she took us to were explained well and some not. Obvious things in the room were not explained which was weird. This is mostly because some props there are for the night visits but she didn't explain that.

I enjoyed it but I didn't like the fact that she would not even mention things related to the ghost sightings - several people asked that question. She would only say she couldn't talk about Anything related to the night/ghost tour. We weren't asking for details, just if it was true. I think that's a huge missed opportunity because I would definitely have come back at night to pay more $$ for that tour if she'd just talk it up a little. She shut us all down when we asked - very weird.

Also - they ask for proof of vaccination @ the entry gate. Otherwise you have to wear a mask. Come prepared for a pic of your vax card.

The host was funny, pleasant, cheerful... Other than that the castle doesn't have anything else to offer. Fake furniture, just a tour for an old building that is not impressive or thrilling at all. There's more mystery in abandoned old houses..

The history of the castle was very interesting. It would have been nice to see it more original, but I know the castle had been used for multiple things.
Our tour guide spoke a little too fast for my sister and I, as we are somewhat hard of hearing. Her knowledge of the castle tho was impeccable.
All in all it was a good tour. I would recommend it for others.

I took my 14 year old son and his 15 year old friend for a fun day out. We weren't disappointed. I only wish we could take more pictures other than the two designated areas. If you have an hour to spare, I suggest visiting this location. The tour cost is very reasonable as well.

The building construction, cut stone, is incredible. The workmanship is astounding. And it only took two years to complete it. The inside is another story. Needs work and updating while preserving the history. The furniture which is not original is terrible. The history of this place is something else. Lots and lots of photos. The tour guide was good. However, my wife and I had to pay four entry fees. If someone arrives later they pay one. What's up with that?

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the castle. The stories she told were interesting and gave you an insight to what went on during the days the castle was in use.

My problem was I couldn't hear her nor could my mother. Her voice inflection kept going up and down. In some of the rooms the air conditioning was very loud and she didn't speak loud enough to hear over it. When the AC went off then you could hear her. I would highly recommend a Mic so everyone could hear.
