What to expect
This is a half day tour. Please note, the tour route and sights may vary depending on the time of year and weather conditions. It is always our goal to provide you with the most interesting adventure possible. Departing downtown Portland, we’ll head east along the Columbia River towards the quaint town of Troutdale, known as the Gateway to the Gorge. We will join the beautiful Historic Columbia River Highway, the first planned scenic roadway in the United States, and wind our way along the Sandy River to our first stop for the day: Crown Point. This famous overlook sits 733 feet above the Columbia River, atop the remains of a lava flow that swept through the Gorge around 14 to 17 million years ago! There, we will find 180-degree amazing views of the Columbia River Gorge and have time to explore the Vista House. This intricately designed observatory and museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From there, we will again join the historic highway as we drive deeper into the Columbia River National Scenic Area. Our first waterfall for the day will be the dramatic Latourell Falls, which plunges 249 feet over a massive wall of columnar basalt. Depending on the season, a short .25 mile paved trail hike will be led to get a closer view of the falls. The grand Multnomah Falls will be the next stop in our journey. Plummeting 620 feet in two major steps, Multnomah Falls is the highest waterfall in Oregon and second highest in the nation! There, we will explore the Multnomah Falls Historic Lodge (a Cascadian style stone and timber lodge built in 1925) as well as the beautiful Multnomah Falls itself. During the gorge fire of 2017, the wildland fire crew fought tirelessly and ultimately saved this historic landmark. The easily accessible viewing platform offers a full view of the Benson Bridge and cascading falls beyond it. Onward to Bonneville Fish Hatchery. There, we will spend about 20 minutes on a short walking tour of this impressive Fish Hatchery (the largest in Oregon) and Sturgeon viewing center! At the viewing center we will visit local celebrity: “Herman” the sturgeon. Herman is over 70 years old, 10-feet long, and 450 pounds! Our journey will return us to Portland via the Columbia River scenic route (approximately 45 mins).

Samantha was our tour guide and she was great. Very knowledgable and friendly. The waterfall views were phenomenal and it made us feel like every penny was worth it for this trip. Plenty of time at each stop for photos. The van was comfortable and water was offered at multiple points throughout the tour. Samantha even recommended some other places to check out while we are visiting and those spots were amazing too! If you’re thinking about booking this tour, just do it. There’s nothing I could think of that I would improve.

This is the best thing I’ve done so far while in Portland! Our guide, Zeke, was excellent! He engaged everyone with questions and recommendations, so we all felt a part of the conversation. He gave us lots of interesting history and facts about the area, plus info about local birds and wildflowers. He offered to take photos of everyone by the falls, which was great. He also took us to 1 extra waterfall along the way, which was awesome. He really went above and beyond!

Great knowledgeable guide who made the extra effort to show us as many waterfalls as she could in the time frame available. It was pouring rain the whole time but it didn’t affect the beauty of the waterfalls. I liked that we only spent 10-15mins at each place, I’m not one to sit around a long time at each site. Overall it was a nice half day tour to get outside the city of Portland and explore the natural sites.

Ash took us on a super funny and informational tour of the Colombia Gorge- Multnomah Falls area. Her hospitality was incredible: helping elders on and off the bus, adjusting the temperature on the bus to fit our needs, taking photos for everyone, preparing snacks and beverages for hungry hikers, and showing us all the best sites outside of the city. She was also training another lady during this time in which you could hear the exchange of recommendations and advice in order to provide a safe and marvelous trip for guests. I had a blast! The weather was a little unpredictable, however it turned out to be a great trip. She returned us to the city just in time for happy hour! 10/10 would recommend this trip when traveling to Portland.

I booked a small group tour to see the waterfalls, and it was an absolute highlight of my trip to Portland. It was just me and a family of four in the van. I don't love tours with big groups, so this was perfect. The van was very comfortable and plenty spacious.

Our guide, Sam, was the absolute best. She was so upbeat, filled with fun facts about the areas we were seeing, and showed such genuine enthusiasm for all the locations we visited. She offered to take pictures, she had umbrellas, water, and all manner of supplies on hand, and she had lots of recommendations for things to do locally. After our tour, I ordered a Yolko Ono from the Fried Egg I'm in Love food truck on her recommendation, and it was one of the best things I ate on my entire trip. Sam was awesome!

The waterfalls were super impressive. I felt we had enough time at each stop to appreciate them, as well. We also went to a fish hatchery that was way more interesting than I'd imagined it would be. Halfway through the trip, it got rainy and windy, but it didn't dampen (ha ha) our enthusiasm at all. The falls are gorgeous in the rain, too! I do recommend bringing rain gear just in case. I might have enjoyed it less without a rain jacket and appropriate footwear.

Overall, I'm so glad I booked this tour, and so glad Sam was the one to lead it. She's a gem. I will absolutely do another Wildwood tour the next time I'm in the Portland area.

The Multnomah falls is our favorite part of the tour. The kids really liked it. For future visitors we recommend that you also see the Latourell and Horsetail falls and Fish Hatchery .The tour guide person(Dominique) was very friendly , knowlegeable , receptive and willing to answer any questions.

This tour really exceeded our expectations. There were 7 people on the tour and we left promptly at 1pm. Craig was an excellent tour guide for us. He was very passionate about the sights around the Columbia River Gorge and informed us on the history and nature of the area.

We enjoyed the first stop at the Vista House at Crown Point. It was a beautiful historic building that offered great views of the Columbia River Gorge. There was a little shop downstairs where you can purchase warm drinks and souvenirs.

The waterfalls were amazing. Portland has been getting a lot of rain, so the falls were very full. We did get quite wet from all of the spray, but the power of nature was very breathtaking. These waterfalls were truly gorgeous to see and experience.

The fish hatchery was the final stop on the tour. It was interesting, but the falls were definitely the highlight.

Don't forget your rain gear, but you certainly won't mind getting wet after standing close to these magnificent waterfalls!

We had rain the entire time but still enjoyed the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable, not only about the waterfalls but also about Portland in general. She was also prepared for the weather and offered ponchos and umbrellas for us to use. The van was very nice and comfortable, and we had a small group so it was a very relaxed schedule. Well worth the time and money, highly recommend.

Chuck was our tour guide and he was both knowledgeable and entertaining, as well as level headed. This tour is a great value for the cost. And the sights were really GORGEous :) The info on the website and confirmation email about the “snacks and refreshments” being offered is incorrect due to COVID, FYI. Bottled water is available. Also, this tour packs A LOT of stops in a small amount of time so one might feel rushed at times. In fact, the tour would still be quite enjoyable if Wildwood removed one of the more minor stops. Again though, a good value for the money.

Our guide, Ash, was fantastic! She made an incredibly beautiful tour into the Columbia River Gorge even better.
Due to recent rains, there were waterfalls everywhere! Stops at Latourell Falls and Multnomah Falls were astounding! The water was pounding down and the srrounding forests were beautiful. Thanks Ash!!
