Worst tour driver
Oct 2021
Our first trip on October 11th to Maui was marred by a horrible “Road to Hana” tour. I travel the world and have taken many tours and this was the worst I have ever been on. The driver was difficult to understand and the van wasn’t equipped with any type of speaker system that would help those seated in the rear. It was so bad that on the first stop to get snacks/coffee, I considered getting off and taking an Uber back to hotel. The driver was rude and condescending to fellow passengers when they made request to turn down the music so they could try to hear him. When asked about the variety of trees or large growing plantings along the roadside, he didn’t know. I would expect anyone conducting a tour to know the route and what was planted along the way. We made it to Hana safely but the return trip down the unfinished road was something else. The driver sped down at 45 mph on a 5 mph road. Skidding around corners. The women onboard screamed at him to slow down. He later said he was trying to get back for passenger’s that had a 5 pm dinner reservation (that was never stated by anyone onboard) At the end of the trip, I tried to give him a tip as appreciation of at least getting us back safe and it was refused without even looking at it. I’m sure he felt he wasn’t getting a good review, so why bother. Spending over $450, I expected better!

Lenny, our driver, was informative, knowledgeable and entertaining! We were glad to have a guide to handle the driving so we could enjoy the views. We had plenty of snacks and water, along with a delicious lunch. Highly recommend!

An amazing day with Mahola tours in a small group tour
I highly recommend Mahola Tours for the small group Road to Hana. I had chosen this company because it’s locally owned and the drivers are local and know the area well. In addition, I did not want a large group in a large bus. I was not disappointed-it was amazing day - our driver and guide was Charmaine. She was a nurse by profession but due to the pandemic had come back home and doing what she loved. She was so patient, we made so many stops, ate local Huli Huli chicken and also local fruits and other delicacies!

Hana Adventure
Our trip to Hana with Jamie was so much fun! She was engaged, had entertaining anecdotes, as well as educational info. Light breakfast, snacks and a delicious and filling lunch were provided. Something to remember-the day is long, and the ride takes you on windy and rough roads. For those who may have back issues or suffer from motion sickness, prepare well. The trip is worth it especially if with a guide who is as knowledgeable as Jamie.

Road to Hana
Wonderful tour with beautiful stops along the way. The snacks were provided throughout the day and lunch was delicious and plentiful. Justin was great guide, but the problem was we could not hear him since we were seated in the back. We missed out on most of what he had to say and our friends in front of us needed to relay his comments. We asked him to speak up but still he could not be heard. Too bad he did not have a mic he could use. I don’t have a hearing issue but my husband does and he could hear none of the comments. That part of the tour was disappointed and frustrating since nice we had to keep asking what did he say?

The only way to travel the Road to Hana
Sep 2021 • Solo
The Road to Hana is a must do for anyone visiting Maui for the first time! You can drive it yourself and follow along a guide that anyone can purchase OR you can sign up for this small tour where you will be driven by a local who knows all the best spots and top/tricks to get the most out of your day. Our tour ended up being closer to 12 hours and our guide Justin grew up in Hana so he shared many stories along the way. Keep an eye out for mongoose, goats and deer throughout the drive and be prepared to take photos of some of the most beautiful views in all of Hawaii. Wear tour swimsuit and bring water shoes & a towel if you want to participate in a quick dip in one of the waterfalls.

We experienced beautiful scenery with a local guide with much knowledge and history of the island. Taking the tour allowed us to sit back and enjoy ourselves. The Hawaiian BBQ lunch was excellent and certainly something we would not have found on our own. We highly recommend taking this tour

Incredible experience. Highly recommended. If you get Lenny then you're in for a treat, greatest tour guide of all time, literally. Dude has so much knowledge and life experience and he's just hilarious. We were hooked up with so many snacks and treats, water all day, and lunch was amazing. If you're looking for a full Hana tour book this one!

Local Road to Hana Tour
We had such a great time on this tour! Justin was a fabulous tour guide who grew up in Hana so he was very knowledgeable about the area. He made the tour personal with stories of his family and the area. The road to Hana is quite a difficult drive on your own so we’re glad that we booked a tour for this. We saw waterfalls, black sand beaches, lave tubes, horses and the beautiful landscape of Hana. The provided lunch was from a local food truck and was super yummy! Would recommend booking this tour over any other because of the local experience that you get with it.
