Flatiron Food, Architecture and History Tour

Overview

Explore two of New York’s most charming neighborhoods, Flatiron and Union Square, on this food, history, and architecture tour. A local guide provides an insider’s perspective on the city, and takes you to spots you may not have found on your own. The tasting menu constitutes a full lunch, and includes treats such as artisanal grilled cheese, a classic New York sub, and fresh croissants.

What to Expect

Meet your guide in the Flatiron district in the morning, and head to Eataly, the Italian food market opened by chef Mario Batali. There, enjoy a coffee at Caffe Lavazza and a warm slice of breakfast focaccia.

Stroll over to Eisenberg’s, a sandwich joint loved by locals and celebrities. Pause for photos of the iconic triangular Flatiron Building directly across the street as you listen to the guide’s stories about its architecture. Your small group size encourages questions and conversation.

Follow the guide down to Beecher’s, a hard-to-spot gem near Union Square. As you indulge in one of its famous grilled cheeses, watch the cheese being made in the on-site factory.

Absorb the revolutionary history of Union Square, courtesy of your guide. On arrival at Breads Bakery, hidden away from the bustle of Union Square, enjoy a fresh pastry with the group. The tour ends here, steps from the park and shopping on Fifth Avenue.

It was OK

I expected more walk and talk, too much time was spent at Eataly. As far as food, there were a few samples, half Reuben sandwich, half glilled cheese sandwich. The tour Gide was a nice girl, friendly and knowledgeable within the limits of the tour.
