The tour of the Oak Alley house is conducted by guides in authentic plantation style apparel. Walking is required for this tour. The distance from the plantation house to the restaurant and souvenir shop is about 1 block. There are benches along the path, shaded by the Oaks. The guided house tour will be about 35 minutes in length. The remainder of your time will be spent self-exploring the grounds. If you use your time wisely, you can grab a sandwich at the gift shop for lunch and still have time to walk the grounds.

A must do in New Orleans!
We had a great time on the Louisiana Swamp Tour! We had transportation to and from our hotel in the French quarter. The tour was informative, fun and we saw lots of alligators and wildlife. Our tour guide Ernie did a great job in educating us about the alligators and swamp. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area!

Great Way To Beat The Heat & Educate Yourself About The Big Easy With Time Devoted To Impact Of Hurricane Katrina
Highly recommend this comfortable coach bus tour early in your trip to provide overview of New Orleans, especially if you are interested in learning about the impact of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and beyond. On a hot and/or humid day, the bus tour is a great way to beat the heat while getting acquainted with The Big Easy. The driver clearly loves his home and enthusiastically shares the city's history from an insider's perspective. At times, he spoke a bit fast and was difficult to understand. Sit near the front for the best acoustics. I recommend planning to get your Cafe du Monde Beignets and coffee during this tour at the City Park location. They accept credit cards and offer a comfortable, air-conditioned dining space. There is also a well stocked gift shop on site. Be sure to tip the drivers (both hotel shuttle and tour guide)! They are working hard to ensure an excellent experience.

          Biten by a gator!
The title of this review is no joke, I was indeed biten by a gator. I never write reviews but felt compelled to do so because this trip was everything I wanted and more. Captain Duey was driving crazy, water spraying us as he takes fast sharp turns navigating the swamp. I had my damn hands in the air like it was a roller coaster ride Captain Duey was very knowledgeable about the area and the alligators, bizarrely they seemed to recognise him and were drawn to his voice. Could have been something to do with the bait AKA 'swamp crack' his words not mine LOL Dude was honestly so funny had everyone on the boat laughing on various occasions, described the alligators as swamp puppies and coworkers. We saw plenty alligators, mostly female ones then he found a huge male and he made sure everyone got close up photos then kissed the gater for being a good boy. HR department will be involved soon I expect. Other boats didnt get to see baby Gators but my man Duey produced the goods. Passengers who wanted to hold it were given the chance. After letting the baby nibble my finger (not sore at all). We headed back to the dock taking in the beautiful scenery as we flew across the water. A day I will remember forever. Duey thank you brother! (I will upload photos to this post when I return to Scotland) - Gary

Great small group airboat tour with Trey
We did a small group swamp boat tour with Trey and it was amazing. We paid for pick up from the hotel and they were prompt and professional. Trey was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We saw plenty of alligators and the airboat ride was very fun and a great way to beat the heat! I would highly recommend this tour and would do it again next time we return to New Orleans!

          Amazing Ride
This was an amazing ride. Our captain took us into the swamp and we saw so many alligators including one that is friendly. A must do for sure.

          Once in a lifetime enjoyment
Oak Alley Plantation was very beautiful and interesting. A small stand outside offered delicious mint julep drinks and the restaurant had some very tasty menu items, followed by a delightful gift shop. Wish I had time to order their tempting pecan pie. The inside tour was most interesting, enjoyed the samples of the outfits worn and the history of the owners and slaves. A fascinating wall in the slave quarters listed many if not all of the slaves names. We also took the large Airboat Tour and what a great time that was. Our "captain" swerved and did slow circles in the swamp inlets drawing out numerous alligators, tossing them marshmallows. At one point two of the boats pulled up on the bank and one operator hopped out and hand-fed a large alligator while tapping the snout of a 2nd nosy alligator. Amazing. Sorry to see the tour end, it was so much fun.

The boat driver was knowledgeable, he was great at maneuvering the boat, it was fun, entertaining, he know the allogators well, and we held a little alligator. This is one of the best things we did on this trip.

          Dissapointed
They don't respect the nature. The airboats make a lot of noise, very very loud. Not normal. They scare the animals and it's annoying for other visitors on normal boats. The location doesn't look like a swamp as you aspect. Wide, open, connected to the see. They bring a small crocodile on board and everyone could touch it and could pass it to eachother to make photo's. When we saw some crocodiles they stayed very short there. We did more swamp tours on other places, but this one we will never visit again.

          Gator fun
My girlfriends and I had the best time ever. From pick up at our hotel to drop off everyone was helpful and professional. Jason our boat captain was very informative and he brought us to see as much gators as possible. Just note when booking you will need to follow up with them before your trip so you know what is required for pickup. Like the time and name of the bus company plus picking you up. Will I do it again. Most def. Bring lots of sunscreen. And water to hydrate. Being out in that sun will drain you.

Oak alley plantation was georgeous! It definitely worths a visit. We had two problems with the tour. We were on time waiting for the bus, but they didn’t explain that we had to stay on the sidewalk (we were at the hotel lobby). They left, and we had to call them back. Inside the bus, the driver spoke all the time, obviously looking for the tip. We would have appreciated some moments of peace and quietness

Thank you for your feedback. The transportation is a 30 minute pickup window for pick-up and drop-off to allow the bus to go door-to-door to get all of the guests. The drivers do not have a place to park their busses nor would they be able to leave their busses, therefore, we ask that all of our guests wait outside or near the entrance where you will be able to spot the shuttle bus arriving. You did book through a third party, so maybe they didn't communicate clearly with you and we do apologize about that.

Oak Alley is wonderful and many things to do and see, but with this tour, had only about 2 hours to see everything. We spent time picking up others for tour and changing buses. More than half of the tour group was doing the Swamp tour and we had to drop them off for that. Did not have enough time to walk the entire plantation or do the extra tours on the plantation. Would suggest finding a tour that only does Oak Alley so that enough time can be spent there and you can see everything. Our tour said only Oak Alley, but ending up with people for the Swamp tour too.

Thank you for your feedback. The pickup and drop-off is allotted 30 minutes each in order to go door to door to get all of the guests. Therefore, we will have other drivers helping with pickup in order to get everyone on time. Our buses do transport both Oak Alley and combo tours. The guests that are doing combo tours do get transferred to another bus, but we can assure you that the short stop is on the way to take guests back to the city. We understand that this takes an extra 5-10 minutes out of your time on the way back to your hotel, but please understand that this is the best that we can do to accommodate everyone.

Let me start off by saying that Oak Alley is amazingly beautiful and you will not regret going. However, there are other ways to get to the plantation and I highly recommend you try driving yourself or using a different company.

We were an hour late leaving New Orleans, degraded by our driver, and one couple got kicked off the bus before we left because the company had miss-counted. During the drive, our driver (Barbara) was trying to give us information about the area, but she was far from knowledgeable. She also ran 2 red lights and crossed over a double yellow line to pass a truck. We were glad to get off the bus alive and to escape the endless talking about buffet items that she thought was relevant.

The worst part was that once we arrived at the plantation, she realized that half of the people on the bus were at the wrong location. Some were supposed to be at a different plantation and others were supposed to be at a swamp tour. This was the most unorganized company I have ever seen.

Booking/setup was easy via Trip Advisor. Brian, our driver, was efficient, polite and knew the city well. We made many stops to gather a full bus/van prior to leaving. We didn’t leave city for about an hour; not a big deal. Beautiful ride out to the plantation. Gorgeous structure and grounds. Tour was nice and very informative. We had the right balance of time; not too long or short. Nice cafe, gift shop, etc if needed. Very nice experience.

Cajun tours transported us and were over an hour late. Made our tour rushed and put a damper on the day for everyone on the bus. The Plantation guide was very well versed on history and well worth having.. but the Plantations were not impressive ... many on the tour were disappointed. My suggestion would be drive yourselves if possible and do it yourself. Your admission provides a guide if you want one! We paid $92 US each and most of that is for your transport ( which is very poorly organized )...Its $25 US to get into the Plantations ... so as I said..if you ca drive yourself!

If our bus driver could receive a rating, I would give him a 5. He was awesome. He gave us great information about the city and what we were seeing out of our bus windows. I learned so much about the history of the city and some of the history of Katrina as well. We also had a lunch served at Oak Alley that was excellent. (I was surprised that sweet tea wasn't offered.) As to Oak Alley, it was just nothing to write home about. I do quite a bit of historical touring. The tour guide was friendly and answered our questions, it's just that I don't need to see "period furniture". It's ok if period pieces are needed to fill the house, but the fact that the whole house is "period" was disappointing. I did walk the grounds and see the graves of the last family that owned the plantation. The slave quarters have been rebuilt, but they are probably not that realistic. I was just very disappointed. There are other Plantations, I'd try one of them. I'd have given it a 2 if it wasn't for the bus driver and the lunch.

In spite of hellish heat on a July Sunday, we decided to visit and walk around two plantations: Laura and Oak Alley. Good choices. Very interesting and certainly sobering, too. At Oak Alley we had to wait a bit long for our tour of the main house - sitting outside! Not pleasant, to say the least. Inside was air-conditioned to a good extent. The restaurant on the compound was full and waiting time long, thus we had to grab something from the snack bar. Not a lot and tasteful things.

Honesty i learn a lot but i got offensive going to the gift store n i seen two black slaves dolls next to the books, I did say something but the young girls didn't understand, they didn't had none African American tour guide there also. I hate the fact the plantation had a bed an breakfast over night stay that truly offensive to people of color.
