I would go again. The dances were (mostly) cheerful and fun. The dancers were talented, and the costumes were quite good. The presentation of the story was creative and entertaining. I am happy we did not miss this. I enjoyed the insight into the Russian history; most of our tours centered on the Tlingits, and it was interesting to get more historical depth. The show was a good lenghth, allowing plenty of port time for other events. Plus you get to rest your feet for awhile.

I attended this dance show over the July 4th holiday. Fun and festive Russian and Ukrainian dances were performed. Pared well with all the Russian History in Sitka. Show was about 30 minuets in length.

For me the true wonder of this was realising the levels in which it works. On one level it is a dance show and as such it is very good. The costumes are well cared for and colourful. The dances are short and well performed and the introductions give the audience an insight into their meaning which is very interesting. On another level it is a representation of the unique cultural and historic make up of the area - where USA and Russia meet on a land that was originally neither. On yet another level we see a group of women showing a sense of community and togetherness, of friendships and enjoyments that come together with purpose, fun, fitness and expression in a way that is being passed down through generations. Put all together for a ticket price of $10 - you rarely get such good value and I think it was an honour to witness it.

Talent, fun, and authentic costumes kept our eyes peeled to the stage as we watched this amazing troupe of lady dancers perform the traditional Russian dance. What was more surprising is that we found it in the tiny fishing village of Sitka, Alaska! Don't miss the New Archangel Dancers if you visit this city. They perform nearly every day in the summer. Comprised of women only, these ladies give a huge amount of time to learn the dance steps. The troupe is clothed in authentic Russian costumes, down to their red boots. Lots of fun.

I have mixed feelings about this group. The costumes are beautiful and the ladies are clearly enthusiastic. The last dance definitely showed some talent. Overall though, the dances, while authenticity Russian, were rather simplistic. It was a nice compliment to the other aspects of Russian influence in the area. The ladies are amateurs and do this in their spare time, so the ten dollar admission is not too much to pay.

You won't want to miss this wonderful program of Russian folk dancing put on by a group of volunteers from Sitka. The costumes are colorful, the moves amazing and it'll entertain you from the minute the program starts. A highlight of any Sitka visit, this is a program you won't want to miss. It's not too long, takes place right in the heart of Sitka and they ask for a donation to keep it going. Enjoy a part of the Russian heritage of Sitka and you'll appreciate the efforts they put in to keep it alive. I give them an A+ rating.

This show was included as one of our tour selections on our cruise. We enjoyed the dancing, and especially the clever costumes. Since the Russian culture is integral to Sitka, this amateur show was a treat. It is a simple pleasure not to be missed.

I went to this show as part of a city tour of Sitka. Whatever we paid to see this show was too much. The show is about 30 minutes long. I left after 15 minutes, and those 15 minutes were a waste of my time. This dance group is made up of women of all ages who do this in their spare time. Only about 7 of them perform at one time playing the men's and women's parts. The dance steps are so simplistic that a child could learn them easily. None of the dancers have any Russian heritage. It's nice that they are interested in Russian heritage, but they shouldn't charge money to see this amateur dance group.

We thoroughly enjoyed the New Archangel Dancers! The theater where the dance troupe rehearses and performs is very modern, beautiful, and comfortable. The show we saw consisted of 6 dances, each one with a good story and lots of energy! The entire audience naturally started to join in clapping along with the music. It is hard to believe that these dancers are all volunteers and not professionals! The show is great, the handmade costumes are beautiful, and you will leave with a smile on your face. We highly recommend this show.

This group is so dedicated to their dancing and its culture. These ladies do a wonderful job expressing the Russian song and dance. We enjoyed their story and their dedication.

We were encouraged to go to a performance of these local ladies who are about to celebrate 50 years as a dancing company. They were very good, showing great strength & agility as well as nice acting skills. For an amateur group they put on a well rounded half hour show with commentary from a past member between the dances. Worth the $10

Was hoping to learn something of the Russian heritage in Alaska. This was a group of women (none of whom are Russian) who wear Russian garb and preform Russian dances. Not sure if the Russian Centennial hall has any other activities to explain the Russian heritage of the area but these dancers sure did nothing to explain the history.

Planned to stop here as part of our personal walking tour of Sitka. Costs $10 for the presentation. Got a seat up front and spoke with a lady who was part of the local fire department as an EMT III. She had been a dancer for many years and then had to retire at the age of 50 per the Archangel standards. Her daughter is one of the dancers now who plays one of the boy parts. The New Archangels are an all lady group. When it was formed some 50 years ago, the men were invited but declined so the women have kept it to themselves since that time. The group performed 6 Russian dances with a monitor giving us the origin and background of each dance. This is a must see if you visit Sitka. Tickets for each day's performance go on sale about 30 minutes before the show. My Rating: 10/10

We went to this after a bus tour....the bus tour was fine, the "dance" was awful...find something else to do....
