We were a large group and combined the viewing of the Miraflores lock with dinner. The dinner was mediocre but the views of the ships going through the locks were great. They were quite close and we could clearly see the water levels changing and...More
Super place for a relaxed visit and to understand what makes Panama so famous - do go for the Imax movie (every half an hour) to get a better background and soak up time between crossings - suggest you go early before the crowds.
The canal at Miraflores locks is far more interesting than I expected. Also, it takes rather short for the shops to cross them. I spend an hour there (from 4.30 PM) and could se a complete cycle: two smaller ships going to the Atlantic at...More
Like I described in the Panama Canal review, you need to time your arrivals to when the ships are going through the canal. They only go through the canal before 10am in the morning or after 3:30pm. Arrive before 3, go through the museum and...More
The visitors centre opens at 8am, take the lift to the 4th floor for great views of the ships passing through the locks. You can see them until around 10am. Then they stop until 2pm. During this time you can visit the museum and buy...More
Amaze yourself with what man can do to overcome problems and make the world better. Slow and serene almost calming watching the ships pass by. You can feel the age in the buildings and surrounds. All the info you require about the canal is available...More
If you want to see the boats go through the Panama Canal you must be there before 10 AM or after 3 PM. We arrive just at 10 AM, and the last ship was just going through so we didn’t get a chance to see...More

I find your question a little confusing ??do you want to go to the visitors center and see the Mira Flores locks and also experience the ride thru the locks and canal. I was only there once but we used the hop on /off bus($34 for one day/$37 for two days) to see most of panama city. You can check their routing and see if it suits you)The Maria Flores has a small museum($) and a grandstand to view ships going thru the Locks. I (and my wife)found the old city very interesting using the self walking guide. Taxi's are very reasonable and everyone uses American $$.
