Hiring a taxi for half a day to Huay Tung Tao cost 1200 THB. Might be cheaper in a songthaew, but we opted for a more comfortable ride. It was a lovely place. We went on a Friday, so there were few visitors. There are...More
We stopped by the lake on a weekday for lunch, there were plenty of seemingly local people also there using the facilities.
There didn’t seem much to be able to differentiate between the lakeside restaurants so we just walked for a while then picked a...More
Had a great day out here. The animal sculptures done in hay were huge. Some like King Kong had platforms to climb up to, so you could take photos. There were also some very attractive flower arrangements and some traditional style huts. The lake itself...More
Was very busy with locals spending the day with family and friends. We ate lunch in one of the huts, had incredible views and delicious food. There is lots to do on the lake, paddle boats etc, but no swimming. The restaurant recommended to us...More
This was a real find amongst the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai. It is a 30min cycle ride from the city set amongst the hills. There are hundreds of ‘huts’ to sit, eat and drink. Everything was cheap, tasty and the service was fast....More
We stopped by this lake side area to have late lunch on the way down from the Doi Suthep mountain.
The weather was beautiful .
The lake is surrounded by camping areas and restaurants.
It was beautiful to cycle in the area.

We hired a car to get to this place from Nimman. What a perfect way to spend an afternoon with friends, family or couple. It’s largely frequented mostly by locals. I totally can see the draw. It’s close to the city by car or motorbike...More
There's a surcharge for non Thais. 20 baht for Thais, 50 baht for the rest of us. For Thailand, this isn't too bad at "only" 2 1/2 times the right price! Nonetheless, it's offputting.
I went on a Sunday around noon to enjoy some nice...More
Really recommend Huay Tung Tao Lake. It's not a touristic place and you can relax in one of the booths, swim, have lunch or drink something. Be warned that the booths are not free, they're from the restaurants and you have to eat something to...More
If you want to have a quiet, authentic, low-key day Trip in Chiang Mai, this is the spot. It’s a short 15-20 minute drive to the lake. You can then walk or drive around the lake, where you’ll find 100+ private, personal huts that actually...More

We got an air-conditioned taxi for 4 hours for 1200 baht because we wanted a more comfortable ride. We did not negotiate the price. The place where you stay can most probably arrange for a taxi. At the far end of the lake are places where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. It may be difficult to sit with a leg cast on the floor at the bamboo hut restaurants by the lake, but there are also huts where you can sit on benches while you eat.
