We visited this during a visit to ciudade velha. A chilling reminder of how slaves were treated. Well preserved as well. Mind the taxi drivers around who can be a hassle.

we were told that on this spot was held the slave market in the past. from here, slaves were shipped to north middle and south america.

This square reminds visitors of the history of the slave trade in the past. The only real reminder of this now is the column. The rest of the square is taken up with market stalls hoping to attract tourists. The are also cafes nearby.

We were more amazed for the history than for the monuments. People is nice and helpful. Good place to eat seafood on the restaurants by the beach

History can't be written to say otherwise. Sitting across front the Roman Catholic Church is set the Pelourinho, and in the top of it, there is the simble of the Church of Roma... Sad, that they "baptize" the africans and still sold them to slavery...More
