I don't 2 weeks volunteering with pandas at the panda base. The staff I encountered were great especially our keepers and Tom and Joseph. (And Stella...and Jason.... where are or blue jumpers Jason haha) There is a lot of construction work going on so the park should be hopefully more visitor friendly soon and I think for visitors some information... I have been to Bifengxia, and the breeding centre in Chengdu. To be honest, there is very little difference between the two, other than the Pandas seem more stressed by the presence of people at Bifengxia than at Chengdu. People at Bifengxia were constantly trying to catch the Pandas attention, by whistling at them, as a consequence, the Pandas kept... More

We thought it was much more interesting to visit this place than the Panda site in Chengdu. The location is great and you have the benefit of not only seeing the Panda in their typical environment with much less people, but also watch the cubs in the nursery, which was fur us the highlight. The Pandas in general are more... More

Getting close enough to something I have known as a cuddly toy has been a beautiful experience. Seeing the effort put into preserving a rare species of an animal first hand is truly humbling. Perched way up in the Sichuan highlands. China is a wealth of beauty and heritage

The Panda base is located in a very nice, very green landscape in the middle of large bamboo woods. The compounds for the Pandas are made in a nice way. When I was there in the morning, food (of course bamboo) was prepared for the Pandas and they came out of the buildings later. Maybe it's better to go there... More

One of our top experiences thus far in China. Now, this is a major challenge to get to, we did not use a guide, we just hired a car from hotel in Chengdu, and went for it. My understanding is they are not doing the panda "volunteer" encounters anymore, those can be done at another panda base, but this one... More

I came here with a group of 50 foreigners. There are many options in this big place. You can pay to enter the zoo for 150 RMB which includes a safari. We took the 118 RMB option to walk the gorge and go to the Panda Base. First we took a 99 metre elevator down into the gorge. From there... More

I was disappointed with my visit to the Bifengxia panda reserve. The setting is very beautiful but the place is nothing more than a zoo. There is zero educational element to the visit that I could see. You walk around see pandas in pens of different sizes; you then see the "kindergarten" with newborns; you take a bunch of pictures... I volunteered in the Bifengxia panda sanctuary for 2 weeks in August 2015. The staff are very kind and welcoming, some can speak English which is great. The grounds of the park are kept very clean but it was disappointing to see how much the visitors litter, some of it ends up in the panda enclosures which we clean up.... More

I decided to volunteer at the Panda conservation base for two weeks. I loved every moment!. The Pandas are very well looked after here and it's well worth the trip. The Panda base has such beautiful scenery, it's a good place to get away from the bustling cities. At this time there were no baby pandas as they are currently... More
