Went to the island for the celebration of the Goddess Matsu. It was rammed as it was also a public holiday. A massive amazing site. Fantastic temples and shrines. There's a lot steps and walking to cover the whole site. There are buses and electric...More

It has been one of the most beautiful days I spent in Putian, China. I've been there with my girlfriend and her close relatives, and we spent there a full day among temples, caves, gardens and statues, all very well preserved. But also we relaxed...More

If you're staying in Putian, this is definitely worth doing. If you don't speak Chinese, then do this with a translator or guide.

I love to understand (or at least try to) local culture and how humans deal with life and environment. This place reflects something different from common western eyes of the way of seeing things: the center of whole island is a temple to a female...More

Mazu temple is one of the place you have to go when you're traveling in Fujian Putian. Mazu is a very important and historic figure in Putian's people's heart.

The Mazu Temple here is incredible. The people are very friendly and there are couple of nice beaches. Otherwise, there is very little on Meizhou. I absolutely recommend it for the temple, but that's it.

There are a few hotels dotted around and there is a beach, obviously being an island. Though the beach has no part to play in any tourist attraction. This may be due to the time of year, despite it still being sweltering hot! Or perhaps...More

The island itself is pleasant enough for a half-day visit, with the main attraction being the tempke at the top dedicated to the goddess of the sea. However, you would be best avoiding the cheapest ferries, instead opting for the faster (and slightly more expensive)...More

It's a shame that the no. 1 tourist spot in Putian is not well-managed. The ferry ride is not pleasant if you're caught in the crowded larger boat with lots of pushy and loud riders, definitely a shock to visitors. If you're able to make...More
