It took us about an hour to get here from Nagoya Station which involved three different subway/rail lines. The Shrine is about a 10-minute walk from the Tagata-jinja-mae Station. This Shrine is famous for its annual Harvest Festival on March 15 where a giant wooden phallus is paraded. It’s free entry to the grounds of the Shrine and photos are... More

I visited this Temple today. Nice and beautiful and I like the open way thr people are dealing her with rhis in Europe so difficult handled thing. Not only a visit to watch... also an opportunity to reevaluate our relation to our body and sex

Tagata Jinja is a Shinto shrine in Komaki just north of Nagoya. Lots of prayers for a safe pregnancy come to this shrine. I recommend you to visit there on March because one of the strange festivals in Japan is held!!

If you are coming out on March 15 (the day doesn't change) I suggest going to the Honnen Matsuri! It's lovingly called the "penis festival" but it actually a fertility festival that boasts a large wooden phallus carved from a single tree. If you come on any other date you can still enjoy a lovely shrine that is decorated with... More

I visited Tagata Jinjya for their fertility festival, Honen Matsuri. Not only was the experience absolutely incredible, it changed my perspective on what I was expecting to get out of the festival. While there is the fun that it is a shrine overflowing with phallic paraphernalia, there is the beauty of watching all ages come to a shrine hoping to... More

It is important to remember that the Japanese take this temple more seriously than we might do, so be aware of this when enjoying the many fallic symbols of this temple. Fantastic souvenirs can be purchased here for some of your more open minded friends and family.
