Interesting Fresh Seafood Market
May 2019 • Family
There is a convenient parking spot next to the market. We went early around 9am and there were many female vendors cleaning the fishes they were selling. It was very clean despite it is a fresh fish market. There are lots of dried seafood that that you can buy including conch meat, squids and fishes. There was lady selling her own handmade lacquer jewelry and old ladies selling mini souvenir sandals. The walk can be finished quite quickly as we were early and most shops were not open.

bad vibes

the shopkeepers tend to be pushy (not something that is common in Japan); didn’t like the atmosphere. A lot of the urushi goods are not authentic Wajima-made but imported from China.

Visited on a cold and rainy morning so perhaps not the ideal time to go
Apr 2019 • Couples
We stopped at the morning market on a recent trip to the Noto Peninsula and Wajima. The day was rainy, windy and quite cold. My sense was that many of the stalls did not open because of the weather. There was an interesting display of goods in those that were open, but the market was smaller than I expected. I enjoyed my trip to Wajma, but I would not necessarily go all that way to visit this market.

Nice to see the locals in a market setting
Apr 2019 • Couples
It operates in the morning till 12noon. Car parking spaces were available two streets away at the Asaichi Parking lot at a cost of ¥300 per stay. Tourists were welcome and phablets would be given by local authorities once the car was parked. The staff would ensure the travelers know the way to the market. They were very friendly. At the market, there were numerous shops and stalls selling bags, chopsticks, accessories, seafood, vegetables, pottery items, folk crafts, lacquerware ... The vendors were mainly females. There was a charcoal corner in the rest area where buyers were free to use to grill any seafood purchased and eat it right away. Very funny experience.

Nothing exceptional nor exciting

Nice clean market in a small harbour city. Better to visit the lacquerware producers and the museum. Careful, in this village you can starve if you miss the lunch hour at 2 pm.

A unique place of its own

Very interesting to explore and understand the lives of the local. Open your eyes to look out for hidden treasures here. In the midst, there is this Go NAGAI Wonderful Museum you may like to visit if you are interested in Japanese cartoon.

Charming and a nice place to explore
May 2017 • Couples
A medium size market where you can buy fresh, marinated or dry seafood, lacquer, souvenir etc. People are very friendly. There's a small hut where you can buy fresh seafood and bbq using charcoal there for free. It was really fun and love it.

Try the dried cutterfish and scallops. It's really good. We bought some seaweed paste and other ingredients home too.

Price are definitely cheaper than other area.

Small and charming

Two or three blocks long. Lots of fish, including fugu (the poisonous blowfish) and lots of dried octopus. Also can find stores with the famous lacquerware.

Nice place to start exploring Wajima
Oct 2016 • Solo
Seafood, lacquer and food! One of the oldest morning market selling products produced nearby, including natural salt, seafood (fresh and dried), vegetables and the famous Wajima lacquer chopsticks and utensils. the street isn't very long, but with lots to look at. The bus tour guide also told me the average age of the shop owners are over 80! although they do not know English, they are very friendly! There is a "まれ" center right across for those who have watched the drama!
