At the farthest end of Enoshima island lies a marine plateau, cliffs one can easily walk on and have a look at the sea and its wonders. Chigogafuchi is the best part of the Enoshima peninsula, a very crowded peninsula with a lot of commercial activity. We went on January 10th, a clear day, and we could see Mount Fuji very clearly. After going through the countless stairs you will come across the marine plateau, located on the south side of the island. Unfortunately it was closed the day I was there for safety reasons (it was a rainy day) but you can still get to appreciate the geological history from the pathway that leads to the cave.

The coastline of Enoshima is approached by very long, steep sets of stairs. It was quite a long walk from the the Shrine. We were headed to Iwaya Caves but stopped to admire the rocky cliffs falling away to the bay below. The tide was low and the waves were coming in creating a majestic view out to the water.... More
