Lake Ijssel, Western Europe’s largest Lake, is a beautiful place to spend a few days. You can skirt the perimeter by foot or bike and I recommend you do. It's very flat and incredibly peaceful here, especially for me and my family as we are from London!

We spent 8 wonderful days cycling around the Ijsselmeer from Amsterdam, staying overnight in Volendam, enkhuizen, Den Oever (really lovely), makkum, lemmer, Giethoorn, harderwijk and back to Amsterdam. Mostly stayed in bnbs and found the people very friendly and helpful. The path is well signposted (LF21a, LF22a & LF23a) and mostly just for cycles. Beautiful countryside and interesting culture. Recommended!

Discovered this area almost 20 years ago and love it. Its an amazing sailing area, as you can head out to the islands, sail around the Ijseelmeer or if the weather gets bad you can go in the canals. In addition the people are always friendly and the marinas are always nice places to stop. The bike tracks are very... More

Discovered this area almost by accident as we came to buy a sailboat from a local broker. What a pleasant surprise. It's a great sailing area with sailboats of every size and shape and many marinas. In addition it's a great area for exploring either by foot or by bike. The cycling integrates with the rail network which is a... More

You can't miss it, just look at the map of Holland You can not see from one side to the other, despite the Dutch having reclaimed a lot of land from it You can take a ferry across if you want too, sail it and drive past it on the Northern part

Free parking. Supermarket and shops near the beach. The water was too shallow to swim, but it cooled you off. It wasn't overcrowded, the next people were at least 3-5 meters away.

Largest lake in the Netherlands gives ample opportunity to visit old fisher villages, enjoy the sun or fight your way through heavy winds.
