The boat ride was in itself very pleasant. The captain was very skilled in punting the long boat through the canals. He spoke in a tender, melodious way and even sang a few songs. It was definitely enjoyable. Yet, because apart from some pretty greenery, there are many newish buildings on the shores and few sights worth remembering (unlike some... More

It must have been our day as we met the best boat man for our cruise on the river. He was young, energetic (did a lot of acrobatic acts like jumping onto the bridges as the boat went under them and hopping back on), entertaining (he sang well and his Japanese narratives brought outbursts of laughs from the Japanese people... The wind blows us softly and the boat goes slowly and smoothly. Many boat man can guide you in easy English and sometimes Chinese and Korean. If you don't understand Japanese, don't worry. We can relax without any words. You can get a special ticket for the train to Yanagawa and riding a boat at the station. ( I got... More

Get married with a boat ride finale, what a cool experience! It's like Venice in Japan! Some of the non-wedding rides have singing and apparently a historic account of Japan (all in Japanese I believe). If you are in southern Japan, go check this area out. Also, be sure to try eel (if you like it, that is the specialty... More

We bought the Nishitetsu Yanagawa Dazaifu package at 2,930 yen per person at Yakuin Station. Once reached Yanagawa station, a minibus was already standby there and a leaflet with brief information was distributed to us. We were then transferred to the pier for boarding. The flow was as smooth as breeze. The canal runs through the heart of Yanagawa, enabling... More

We have purchased a package transportation ticket from Nishitetsu and the boat trip was part of the package. The trip was about 1 hour travelling from a small pier near the Yanagawa train station to the pier entering the Ohana hotel. There were willows and sakura trees, and sometimes orange trees along the river. When the boat rowed across some... More

This was a memorable excursion we went on when visiting Yanagawa. The BoatMan used a pole to steer the boat across the river. His skills were impeccable. He sang for us on the boat ride, we stopped at a snack shop off the river. Afterwards, we had a bus ride back to the beginning of our journey. Both very scenic... More

Paid for the 1500 yen 1 hour boat ride. Enjoyed the nice scenery along the canal. Unfortunately, the commentary was in Japanese only. Boat man also sang us some Japanese songs which was entertaining. After disembarking, must go try out the famous Eel rice at Wakamatsu-ya.

You can enjoy any season. Kotatsu ships also in winter. The hot summer heat does not recommend because there is no shade, The Outer river course takes time. When you can afford, please. Here are a lot of veteran staff members who are elderly, I can enjoy sightseeing very much I want to taste the atmosphere even without time! If... More
