Probably one of the most beautiful place we have had the pleasure of visiting while in japan. Views to die for at every angle, we stayed in an amazing traditional Japanese ryokon and for the 2 days one night that we were on the island...More

From Hiroshima you can hop on a local train to a ferry & its worth the trip. Miyajima had some really great shrines, temples, restaurants and there are deer everywhere that walk right up to you and you can pet. There are also a ton...More

What's good From the view to the great torii, everything is awesome and worth a view. Ferry is covered in JR Pass so if you have one it's free ride from Hiroshima. What's not good Little remote, it will take you an hour from Hiroshima...More

We had a JR Pass and took a day trip from Hiroshima to Miyajima. I am glad that we did. First of all, JR pass covers the entire journey including boat ride. On the island, the Torii gate is good and we walked around it;...More

A beautiful sight which you will find in all the travel guides. If you have a JR Rail Pass, which I did, it's a short free ferry ride from Hiroshima on a JR Ferry. Note "JR" is on the smoke stack so you don't get...More

JR pass is valid for travel to the island, look for the JR ferry, there are other operators too. From ferry terminal to the Torii site is a short walk along the beach on unpaved road, there are many visitors, the road become very dusty,...More

We arrived by the ferry on a guided tour. As soon as we got off we headed to the gate, passing many deer along the way. Please note, the deer will eat anything you have in your hands... so beware the deer! Plenty of other...More

This is one of the popular tourist spots in Hiroshima. We went day time and can access the shrine on foot. You can get here by JR, 10 mins ferry from miyajiguishi train station.

I was expecting to see one or 2 deer - but there were hundreds! It is a romantic spot to go and easy to access on a quick ferry. Close to Hiroshima so you can do it as a day tour

Which port on mainland side did you start the ferry ride to Miyajima and the hotel you stayed. I need to know the name of the hotel. According to google search all hotelsa are not near the port. I will be land in Narita airport June 1st 2017. Travel on shinkansen to Hiroshima.

Hi Peter, I am coordinating a trip for 14 teens and 4 adult chaperones to Hiroshima this July. The travel agency, JTB, says for our group to skip Miyajima Island, but all the reviews say otherwise. We will already have a JR pass so the transportation won't be an extra expense. Do you suggest this for a group of 13 and 14 year old kids from California? They are doing a two week tour and home stay throughout Japan. This will be their last day of the trip before heading home. Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Melissa, I strongly suggest making the day trip to Miyajima Island. The island is suited for larger groups as it is small and the routes to the various destinations are clear and easy to traverse. One consideration... More

Just show them the JR pass. The ferry itself is inexpensive so they don't make it a big issue to obtain tickets especially since you have a JR pass..
