Great collection of artwork and the views from here were beautiful. I recommend it if you also want to take a nice photo of Gojuno To. Cheap too.

You see this from walking around the lower part of Miyajima. It is positioned on a slight elevation. As you approach it by walking up the stairs, it seems to rise up even more. Once you are standing next to it, the dimensions are quite staggering. Walking around it you appreciate the architecture and craftsmanship in its construction. Well worth... More

1000 tatamis may be hyperbole - but the hall certainly is expansive. Two different steep and long sets of steps take you up to the hall; go up one and down the other. From many locations on the island you can see Gojuno To, the five story pagoda, next to the shrine - use the pagoda as a target and... More

This is the perfect pitstop for those who have walked around Miyajima all day or just visited Misen. It's peaceful, cooling, and has amazing views overlooking Miyajima Shrine. Be sure you're wearing nice socks when visiting, as you are required to swap your shoes for slippers or walk on with socks only to preserve it's natural wooden flooring. It's a... More

Slightly out of the way at the top of a small hill behind the Itsukushima shrine, one can find the Five Storey Pagoda with this small temple next to it. The pagoda itself was a little disappointing; up close there is not a lot to see compared to the view of it from around the town and one cannot go... More

My favourite temple in Japan. It came as a surprise as I felt like I had seen all the temples I needed to see by this point! A grand hall that still feels original with great beams and faded paintings that add to the atmosphere. Calm and tranquil and serene. Beautiful views to admire the scenery from each window. Don't... I made my way up to the five-storied pagoda (Gojunoto) that can be seen from just about any point of the town to have a look at it from up close and also found Senkokaku Hall in front of it. Senjokaku was one of my favourite spots of Miyajima, a group of Chinese tourists were leaving just as I arrived... More

Rare for a shrine, you can actually go inside. Some stunning old paintings hang from the ceiling and the views out over the bay are also very good

For only 100Y this is a pretty cool place. The man who commissioned it to be built died before it could be completed. So the temple is just one large room. There are some art pieces speckled about and a little shrine with a large rice spoon. There's a monk there doing goshuin. A great place to relax.
