Great view over the bay

As many castle in Japan, Hirado castle is not an old building. But the whole complex, the exhibition inside the castle and also the view is it worth to spend the entrance fee.

Enjoyed this walking tour of the Hirado Castle. Beautiful architecture & views. ¥1020 for our family to visit. Worth the drive.

What a magnificent view! The castle overlooks the bay and is at the top of a rather sheer rock mountain(hill). The geography of Japan is breath-taking. Never have I seen first hand such a unique, warm, and wonderful place. Just about every valley between sheer rock cliffs is a terraced rice field. Whether you are in a town, city, or... More

The Hirado Castle which we see now was rebuilt in 1962, but there are two structures on the property that date back to the 1700's. Lord Matsura of Hirado became a daimyo (or Lord) in 1587 under the power of Shogun Hideyoshi. He took part in various battles on the Korean Peninsula, leading 6,000 troops at the Battle of Bunroku... Here you can get a feeling of an old castle, where the Matsuura clan lived and see artefacts from the period. It was built in 1718, demolished 1872 and reconstructed in 1962. I went with a group.

The trek from the parking lot to the top of Hirado Castle is well worth the effort to see the magnificent views of the surrounding area. Be prepared to walk up a lot of steps. The history of the castle is quite interesting, and the temple and gardens on the grounds are worth visiting.

We happen to go to the castle on one of the hottest days of the year! You must travel up the flights of stairs, with no AC but when you get to the top, its breath taking! It's not something Id do more than once, but I am glad we did it. Also, for those going with small kids in... More

The Castle grounds are full of old monuments and the graves of Japanese heroes and Royalty. It has beautiful gardens and the restoration effort was done quite well. Visitors are allowed to climb to the highest part of the castle where you have an unimpeded 360 degree view of the area, you can almost see all the way to Korea!... More
