What to say -- this was the highlight of our recent Kyoto / Nara trip. It is difficult to describe the beauty of this forest temple – it is a series of small, 1,300+ year old small wooden halls housing fantastically carved wooden Buddha and...More

English follows. Luckily I was, I got chance to visit KONDO in special season. This old, old temple is famous in Japan as "Women's Koya-san": in the past, many Buddhist sacred places were forbidden for women, but not Muroji. Its ancient wooden buildings seem to look exactly the same as one thousand years ago. The statues looked fantastic, but...More

Very beautiful place, try traditional dessert in a restaurant there (I ate sweet noodles with beans, very interesting taste). Huge trees (very impressive), a lot of stairs that lead to an amasing temple on top. Worth the trip!

There are several Japanese-style inns within a few kilometers. There is no Western style hotel nearby.
