It's a pity the site is closed until further notice. Travelled for 2 hours to look for this beautiful place but confirmed by a gas station attendant it's closed, and based on a post in Aug, the road up is closed. Do check again as you plan your trip. :(

There's ample paid parking spaces with fees of 300Yen per car. The carpark is approximately 150m from the entrance of Kikuchi Valley. Before you arrived at the entrance, you will find vendors selling roasted chestnut, grilled corns etc. Was shocked to know an entrance fee of 100Yen per pax is required for valley/river watching but it is worth it. You... More

The valley is indeed beautiful, there are plenty of spots to view the waterfall. Water is nearly transparent and has a stunning blue color. There are two courses to go, one takes 30 mins and the other takes 1 hour. It's a bit chill up there so it's advisable to bring a light coat. Beautiful as it is, getting there... More

As a previous resident of Yakushima, I was stunned at how reminiscent Kikuchi Gorge is to the rivers and primevil forests you see there. So if you don't have the time or budget to visit Yakushima then put Kikuchi Valley onto your itinerary. The setting is a photographer's paradise, I went very early morning and the place was literally crawling... More

We stayed one night in Kikuchi in April for its onsen and visited Kikuchi Valley next morning on our way to Mt. Aso. It was so beautiful and tranquil that my wife and I spent an entire morning to stroll over all its trails. We visited Tokyo, Kyoto, Takachiho, Kumamoto, and spent 3 days in Yakushima island, and Kikuchi Valley... More

Went there on January when the snow covered the whole pass. It was tranquil but slippery!! The falls are magnificent and the scenery is perfect. Recommend to take 2 kilometer hike route. You sure need a car since the public transportation is scarce.

Kikuchi Keikoku (Ravine) is a beautiful location tucked in the mountains of Kumamoto. Located a bit of a ways outside of the small town of Kikuchi the ravine is a popular destination for locals and others in the summer. The ice cold water cools the air a few degrees and can make Kumamoto's unbearably hot summers a bit more tolerable.... More
