With an impressive coast leading to Udo Shrine - take Route 220, and be sure to sideswipe to the Horikiri Pass - the drive to Udo is almost as impressive as the temple itself. Lined with cafes and trinket stalls along the steps towards Udo,...More

A popular local shire/temple right next to the rock on the beach, great view of the waves pounding on the rock, quite a few steps to climb but easy steps.

I visited Udo Jingu just a couple of weeks back. If you had to pick one shrine to visit on a time limited vacation, I strongly recommend going to this one. Udo Jingu is build along and on a cliff looking out onto a beautiful...More

Once you arrived at the parking lot, you will need to walk in for about 10mins to get to the shrine. However, there are shops and cafe along the way as you are walking in. We went straight to the shrine first which was amazing...More

We really enjoyed visiting this shrine because of its beautiful setting. There are buildings, an entrance gate, and many statues along the path to a bridge and stairs down to the grotto where the highlighted temple area is located. There was a parking lot with...More

I went to this shrine from Kagoshima. It's a 2-hour train ride to Miyazaki and then a 90-minute bus ride to the shrine. The bus is one per hour so make sure you time yourself accordingly. Foreigners can get a 1-day bus pass for 1000...More

The Udo Shrine is considered a sacred shrine. It is located in a grotto said to be made by wave action. You get there on a one lane road carved along the sea. It is beautifully situated with the crashing sea just below it. Reaching...More

Quite pretty location but small shrine in the cave. I think this shrine is a unique one located in the cave. The sound of waves makes this place more devine. Compare to the time I traveled from Miyazaki, it took me less than 30 min...More
