While staying at the hotel next door I walked over to see the Castle. Too bad it was closed. Cherry Blossoms were pretty along Lake Biwa.

Nagahama-jou is a concrete reconstruction in Nagahama, off of Lake Biwa. It contains a museum inside. If you're just interested in yoroi maybe the exhibits will not excite, but there are many artefacts on display from the Edo and earlier periods, if you want to...More

As far as I know, there are only 12 genuine castles in Japan. Matsuyama, Hikone, Himeji, Hirosaki, Inuyama, Iyo-Matsuyama, Kochi, Marugame, Maruoka, Matsue, Matsumoto, Uwajima. Nagahama is a fake. The historical site on the castle originally built by Toyotoma Hideyoshi. Completely destroyed years ago, supposedly used to build Hikone Castle. The property has been redevelopd as a copy of the original castle and is now used as a museum. No english explanations were available...More

We stopped two nights in Hikone so on second day took a day trip to Nagahama. Time wise it's about 15 - 20 minutes by local train. First on our walking route was Nagaham Castle, built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1575. There is an excellent...More
