The castle, all towers, turrets and terraces, is majestic; as is its position, high on impregnable rock, overlooking a lush valley. Join the museum visitors and enter to discover guardrooms...

First - Castle was wonderful (not awesome), tour was pretty good (not in English), medieval fair on grounds was less than mediocre (not formally affiliated with castle). We visited La Barben in August for a tour and were met with a medieval fair procession when...More

On arriving in the vast grounds of this beautiful castle set on its enormous rock between mounts and vale one has the feeling of entering an 18th century painting. It is imposing without being ominous. The French gardens are small but well maintained and are...More

We went on the tour (guide very entertaining but only spoke in French) of the many beautiful, fully furnished, rooms in the small but historic castle. Bit odd having a hotel in the heart of the chateau which opened onto a terrace that we passed...More

This place is for people who like Middle Ages - the atmosphere, the ambiance, design. This is a castle, there is a wonderful park, a restaurant, gift shop. I recommend a walk in the park to stop the clock at least for the short term....More

First of all, the price is cheap. We enjoyed appetizers and cocktials on the patio with the owners and other guests at sunset, which was wonderful. Then we moved inside for dinner in the castle kitchen - also wonderful. The room itself was no frills...More

We stayed there and so enjoyed the complimentary tour. We saw many tourists on guided tour to this place and we can understand why. The place was beautiful and the guide was informative. It will be a great experience visiting this place.

The chateau is in very good condition, and the tour is well worth the €9 admission. The tour guide is in costume, and bilingual, as are the guidebooks. The gardens surrounding the chateau are viewed from above, and are worth a few pictures at least....More

Hi. I don't know if you can help me please? My Dad is staying in France and wants to visit the Grand Restaurant de Berben (it was called that in 1944) but he is unsure if it is called something else now? It was in La Berben in 1944. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Jenny Owens

I am sorry that I have not heard about this restaurant. Not sure if the host of Chateau de la Barden will be able to help. They seem to have been there for a long time.
