I was too early in the season so couldn't catch the boat, and took a jeep trip and walked down the hundreds of steps. I'm so glad because it is awesome watching the vista if Balos beach unfold! I imagine it is wall to wall...More

Amazing beach, that is a must when you’re in Crete! The drive to the beach also gives you a insight into Crete’s beautiful landscape.

Visited Balos in July 2017. After looking into the luxury beaches in Crete before my holiday, Elafonissi and Balos Lagoon were names that kept appearing. I can assure you that the correct choice was made after visiting Balos. From the clear crystal blue colour of...More

The boats had not begun running so we drove out. On the plus side there were very few people. On the negative side it is a 30 minute ride on a very bumpy road. While the road is often cliffside it is quite wide. It...More

The beach was a little stinky when we went, but it did look beautiful when we approached it by the boat. One more downside- it is not easy to get to it by the boat. There are no cafes or anything- pure nature.

This was a must visit for me when going to Crete. The drive up to the beach parking lot was bumpy and slightly anxiety inducing but the views were also gorgeous that you have to stop the car and take photos! We rented a car,...More

Visited in April 2018. We arrived at about 9.30 so had the beach to ourselves for about 30 minutes - worth the early start! Getting to the lagoon involves a long drive from most resorts, the final 10km is along a bumpy track that requires...More

SUV recommended for a 30 minute dirt road which is bumpy all the way through. Views of the mountain and glimpse of the sea on the side will not give you enough hints of what is awaiting you. Road leads you to a car park,...More

There is a big boat (even more than one in high season), and there are some smaller boats also, but not many (there are restrictions - see also below). Whichever opportunity occurs, grab it immediately. This is an absolute... More

Hi. We had booked a trip to Balos so we did not use our own car. But everyone advised us to let our car in Kissamos and take the boat. It is much easier and you can visit both Balos and Gramvousa island. I do not think that... More
