About
Discover wellness through thermal water at the Grotta Giusti thermal spa resort in Tuscany. Our mineral spring spa pools, our natural thermal Grotta and our thermal water based healing rituals are related to the ancient concept of Salus per Aquam and have inspired all of our wellness and thermal spa programs. This concept has proven its potential with the healing and rejuvenation advantages it offers. Scientific evidence have shown how thermal waters can help prevent illnesses, even before being used to treat them, and aid in maintaining a good state of health for as long as possible. The high concentrations of dissolved mineral salts and gases gives this water special therapeutic characteristics, making it ideal for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of several chronic and degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory system and skin.

Going Down to the Underground Lake
All was well organized and exceeded the expectations. To conclude our stay at Grotta Giusti, we tried the ultimate and more challenging experience. After the subterranean grotto closes to the regular public, you can be guided by coaches to enter the underground lake (which is forbidden during regular spa hours) and explore it by moving along the rocky banks. It is a spiritual experience in which you learn that your hands will not keep you out of the deep water, it is your breath (all starts with breathing exercises) that will send you up. The journey includes a part in absolute darkness, in the water and feeling like at the center of the earth, and a “floating” for meditation-relaxation guided by the arms of the coach. For obvious reasons - both hands are already very busy finding rocks where to cling to and move on along the walls while the body is in the water - we could not carry phones and take pictures, the two included are from the Internet. The beauty of the lake (in fact a rift 20 kilometers long) is breathtaking and while the coaches are there to keep you absolutely safe you have some fears to confront and overcome. Paradoxically, the best place in the word for meditation—and if I managed to complete it with my size, everybody can …

Wonderful experience at this stunning property!
The property was stunning and the staff was top level. The rooms were beautiful with gorgeous marble bathrooms with modern day amenities. The spa was very nice and the services were wonderful and appropriately priced. The outdoor pool was a favorite! The grotto was unique and something to definitely see and appreciate. My only complaint here, which was NOT the fault of the resort, was that a fellow grotto guest asked us to take their photos and we wanted to relax and meditate-which is the reason to visit the grotto. Maybe consider asking that no phones be allowed? Just a thought. We dined at the restaurant on site and while pricey it was worth every cent. The staff were very attentive and the food was not only delicious but beautiful art as well! This is just a 50ish minute train ride, then a 10 minute taxi from Florence. I would definitely recommend as a side trip. If you do not wish to stay overnight, I believe they have day passes.

    Nice setting but rather antiquated
A hotel in a beautiful setting. Rather antiquated in many respects, i.e plumbing, rooms with carpets that are dirty and need to be steam cleaned, curtains that should be washed. Check-in is different than most hotels. Overall, ok. This can be a rather expensive “hub” if you want to go see Florence, Piss, etc.

I booked the Aqua & relaxation spa menu as a treat for me & my mother, I have been to many different spas but this one sounded like it was unique and we were really looking forward to spending our last day of the trip here.
On entrance to the spa, we were given no instruction or explanation on what we should expect or even how to navigate around the spa, it is a complex layout, and we found the spa staff rude and unfriendly to communicate with.
We were disappointed to find that it is prohibited to swim in the Grotta, even though the picture on the website clearly shows somebody doing s. Not only this but in the Grotta you also had to wear a white coverall full body kind of garment, the man who issued you this on entry to the Grotta was intimating and intensely watched us disrobe from dressing gowns and change into the white pull over which was to be worn over our swimsuits, this made us feel uncomfortable given the environment and the fact we were clearly unaware of the reasons for this change of outfit.
The Grotta was underwhelming; it is a natural cave, as there are many in the area, one of which we visited in Montecatini for a tour at a fraction of the price and loved the experience. Grotta Giusti a offered no info to explain the discovery/history etc, it was advertised as being unique as it was a ‘steam room’ environment, however it was dry air, rather than damp air, so not very relaxing or comfortable. No lounge or recliner chairs, just upright deck chairs making it difficult to relax properly or go to sleep.
The thermal pools with ‘hydro massage’ do not look at all like the pictures and is hugely over priced and under whelming, this was not luxury. There are laminated signs everywhere informing you of the hotel guest areas, warning those who are not guests not to enter, there were minimal places we were allowed to venture even though we had paid a premium price, we did not feel welcomed or comfortable to be at the restort.
The only part of the day we can give credit to is to the lovely staff in the cafe and the food was nice. However, there are many nice places to eat in the area with great customer service so visiting to Grotta Giusti is unnessaccery and well over priced at €98 pp. not to mention that I invisaged nice views as we were in the mountain area, but this is not the case unfortunately.
We are deeply disappointed, it was a waste of money and would not recommend. It has made me apprehensive about booking any other spa days abroad as the website advertises luxury & one of a kind, which it was not.

Not what I expected for the price. Reception area was disheveled and messy with papers and binders visible and untidy, not a good start. The design of the spa was chaotic and nonsensical, walls could be opened to give easier access so less confusing. Then they had an aroma therapy room with scents on table which went around, the back had a ledge that I fell down. Bad design poor execution of relaxing space. Bad smells in a number of places inside and out. Plant choice was poor for an olfactory point. Staff inattentive. The cave was cool but overall for what we paid was really bad. Was for 15 not 150 for the full experience. I would not recommend

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay - the rooms were beautifully decorated, comfortable and well appointed (I am VERY puzzled by a previous review which suggested that rooms needed to be refreshed - where did she stay????). Our massages were the best we have had (and we have had many!), and we appreciated the highly skilled therapists. The range of sap facilities as well as treatments was very good indeed. Food and service were both excellent. Overall: great ambiance for relaxation with a nice touch of glamour. We shall certainly be returning.
It is possible to visit the spa for the day - but I recommend staying over at the hotel if you can. Four reasons: more facilities open to hotel guests than day visitors; time before and after day visitor entry makes use of pool a much more relaxing experience (especially at week-ends); staying at hotel is a good deal if you take into account not having to pay for a day pass; and hotel a great experience in its own right.
It is, as some one else writes, a great way to relax away from the madness of Florence - and the train journey/taxi ride is easy.

Visiting with my husband, I first booked a treatment for myself which included a back massage, light cupping, and mud wrap. This was a really really good experience. My masseuse Alina was not gentle by any means but I like that as my fascia is a mess especially from traveling. So that is why there are 3 “stars” instead of 1-2.

I was surprised that I was not offered water to drink after my treatment and I also got a lost trying to find the exit. It’s quite confusing to get around.

Went back later with my husband to go into the grotto. I should have read the reviews about the grotto because we thought we could at least soak our feet in the thermal waters. It was really expensive to walk around a dark and humid cave with few not super comfortable seats along the paths. I didn’t think you were allowed to bring a camera or phone which I think is righteous because you are deep in nature and supposed to relax. People were snapping pictures and also wearing perfume and cologne which made the experience not really relaxing.

My husband is 6’1”
There are no signs saying to watch your head and again, the cave is not well lit either so he hit his head and scraped it. This happened within 5 minutes. He had to leave. He found someone who gave him ice. He was obviously upset and left to go back to our apartment to take care of it.

I spent $94.50 USD for both of us to go into the grotto for 50 minutes. That is with a 20% discount. He told me to stay and so I did. But I was definitely concerned about his well being and when I exited one person said he could see a doctor there though I’m sure that would have cost a lot too. Not one person at the front desk acknowledged me leaving nor offered a refund. Or even a free thermal pool session for us both which I think would have been fair. In fact they bent their heads down so as to completely avoid looking at me.

This makes me very sad. I don’t usually leave reviews but this warrants one.

Definitely not worth what they charge.

Dear Jennifer, thank you for your detailed review I am glad that you appreciated our mud, arnica and hypericum muscle - relaxing treatment, which we are very proud of. We do not offer water to drink after the treatments because we suggest our guests to rest in our relaxation area, where flavoured water and teas are available. I am sorry about you getting lost on your way out but the place is very big and this is the reason why there are so many signals. As far as the steam bath in the Grotta is concerned, it is an amazing experience in the largest Grotto in Europe, named the World's Best Thermal Grotto. The body is enveloped in the healing steam and the 98% humidity is it's strenght and what makes it a wonder of nature. I wish your husband woud have listened to our reccomandations and let our doctor help him and medicate his bruise but he rushed away and did not want any help. Medical assistance is always free. Nobody bent their heads while you where leaving, and you also joked about men being stubborn . We did not get that you were so disappointed, therefore I would love to welcome you again at Grotta Giusti for a relaxing day at the thermal pool. Francesca Grandi

The place is beautiful and a gorgeous view of the hills. Inside the grotto, it is important to point out that you can’t dive in the water, since it’s only allowed for certified scuba divers . The grotto is actually just for walking around and sitting in chairs to relax by the natural steam the grotto offers. Outside, the thermal pool is at the perfect temperature to enjoy the jets circuit and relax!

Beds very good, very good service. Restaurant had excellent food and wonderful team with the exception of a female named Sylvia, she was very very rude horrible customer service, however Guisippe, Lorenzo and the team they work with were very outstanding 👏 5 out of 5 stars for everything. Super job. I recommend the restaurant for all your meals everything tasted very good. Have drinks at the bar Federico is amazing 5 out of 5 for everything. We were welcomed with prosecco at arrival. Parking is good. The pool is really good (they make you wear red caps) the Grotto is very nice but hot, it is not to accessible for people with mobility issues. We didn't do the floating lake but we talked to others who did and they said they had to climb ladders down and the lights were turned off during the float? If your American, it's in my opinion close enough to(compared to our resorts in America but not exactly)other accommodations in Italy!!!

I recommend this place, it was our first time.

I didn’t stay in the hotel, just went for the spa.

The pool is huge and doesn’t get deeper than 5 feet. The water is warm not hot. Thus it’s easier to stay for a couple hours in the water. On the flip side of it is chilly out then it’s easy to get cold. At one end of the pool are a bunch of jets that come on and last for about 5 mins at a time. You can get a nice massage with them. However, I noticed many of the Italian grannies did not move once they claimed their spot so it may be a little hard to get in.

The food in the cafe was good and 20% off for some reason which was nice.

Entrance €10 for the afternoon. If you don’t bring a towel you need to rent one €5 and everyone needs a shower cap €2-3 or bring your own. I didn’t get a robe or slippers but you can.

Dressing room has plenty of free lockers, I left my passport, not a problem. Hot showers and toilets are in the dressing room section.

I was there at 1pm and the pool only had about 10 people. By 3:30pm there were about 30 people; still plenty of space.

I chose Grotta Giusti over the other two (one free and one paid) thermal waters in Montecatini Terme town both of which did not have great reviews for cleanliness (one said it had harmless worms, other said the pool walls were gross). Though this was a little further out (requires a bus ride from the Montecatini Terme - Monsumanno station), I’m happy with my choice.
