A trip on the Bolton Abbey Steam Railway for afternoon cream teas in first class. A really excellent day out & warm welcome from all the staff at the railway. Definitely worth doing to experience the nostalgia of the steam era. The only way to travel.

We wanted a trip on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey steam railway when we visited Yorkshire for a short holiday. It is really lovely and our dog, Louie, travelled for free. The staff are super, very friendly and helpful and the station tea room great. Views from the train are fab. Would highly recommend a trip, the children we saw... More

A cute little little line, chiefly running ex colliery locomotives and the occasional visiting loco, which they sometimes derail. I have a golden fob, giving me a lifetime of travel FREE, not many of us left. I had a stint as a volunteer and found this most frustrating, it surprises me that anything gets done.... having said that, it is... More

After visiting Bolton Abbey we went on the steam railway from the Bolton Abbey station about a 30 minute walk or 10 minute drive from the Abbey. Great little station and buffet for a tea and cake before the 20 minute train ride to Embsay. Guards and driver all very helpful and lovely scenery to look at for a relaxing... More

My wife bought me the winter warmer trip as a present . This means we It bread , soup and coffee in the dining car . It was their first such event and well supported . The volunteers are great and the chap in charge of the buffet clearly works very hard to please the customers . Plenty to browse... More

Went on the train from Embsay to Bolton Abbey for lunch, a walk up to the Abbey and grounds. Very pleasant return ride and day out, enjoyed a coffee and complementary mince pie at the Bolton Abbey Station Refreshment Room. The train was clean and heated, the staff are very friendly indeed. A most enjoyable part of a day out.

Out Experience: We took our three year old son and he loved the train. The volunteers and the amount of Santa entertainment was excellently choreographed with a hilarious and engaging Father Christmas character. Our gift was damaged and when asked about our satisfaction, the gift was replaced without questioning - indicating good service. Recommendations: - Dispense with the blow-up Snowman... More

My wife and I took our two year old on the Santa Special here recently. The whole day was well organised and great fun. My son loves trains - he has been on this line twice before already - and is usually wart of Santa, but this time he was overjoyed at the event. The customer service is first class... More
