Just a note: it's not as the map attached indicates. The castle is but not the Sanctuary. It's worth the visit but take a picnic as you can sit on the seats overlooking the River Segura.

I visited the Santuario with some friends in Oct 2016 and was again fascinated by its tranquility and cleanliness, having visited previously 3 years ago. It is surely worthy of a listing as a World Heritage site. I won't attempt to outline the history of the site but believe me, it is worth finding out for oneself. I would highly... More

A stroll along the river followed by tapas in the local restaurant is very appealing! It is a place if natural beauty and well worth a visit! Sunday sees the locals setting up tables having BBQ's and picnics with all the family eating, drinking and the children playing! The local restaurant does the best Paella ever! If you are in... This sanctuary is a short drive away from our villa in Calasparra. Our trip is not complete without a visit to the sanctuary. The restaurant attached to it serves the best paella that we have tried anywhere else.during the summer season, youncan rent bbq stalls along the river just like what the locals do and if you are brave enough,... This was a fund raising evening for stray and unwanted dogs, The meals were ordered in advance and was excellent with all 3 courses of a very high standard. The evening was a complete success and everybody seemed to enjoy the food they were served, add to that the magnificent surroundings and I could say a unique experience

We went in four for Sunday lunch, my advise is to book before. The location is used for many ceremonies so opening hours are a little strange! Excellent meal from start to finish, PAELLA is the number dish specially for the locals, can't go wrong. There's a choice of all sorts on the menu, worth a vist, location and surroundings... More

The shrine is beautiful, well cared for and a very peaceful place in which to be. The River Segura is close by, accessible and again is a very tranquil spot. There is ample parking and there are numerous walks of interest. A good half day at least is needed to appreciate it all. The restaurant here is excellent.

We visited the Sanctuary on a fairly quiet Thursday in late May. I should imagine it get very busy in high season, but we had an unhurried and tranquil visit to the church, hewn into the rock, and adjoining museum. Legend has it that a worker i the fields found an image of the Virgin Mary in this location. When... More

This chapel cut into the cliffs is very ancient as evidenced by the heavily smoke stained ceiling. It has a slightly bizarre feel to it though as the portico and adjacent shop selling mementoes of the Virgin to which the chapel is dedicated were constructed in the 20th century. The room at the back of the altar, accessed by the... More
