The weather, snow and pricing were all outstanding, Natural beauty abounds. Once you get up to Hintertux Fernhaus, after 2nd gondola it really opens up and you can ski without feeling crowded.

I share the same review as many others already did here. if you want to go to ski, do it in winter time, you don’t eat Easter eggs in August neither
Took the Hintertuxer Gletscherbahn to Sommeralp together with my husband and dog. At the cashier they didn’t recognise the Zillertaler aktiv card, not even for a discount. So they make you pay another 30 EUR to go from Hintertux to the first station (Sommeralp) which is nothing more then a kids play ground with restaurants serving poor quality and overpriced food. Dear visitors, this has nothing to do with exploring the nature of the Austrian alps as the alps in Austria in summer and winter are meanwhile totally exploited. My dog is required to wear a muzzle and as an owner you get find up to 1,800 euro if your dog ends up leaving his excrements where it is not supposed - well arrive at Sommeralp and you will find yourself walking in layers of cow excrements, every single idyllic alm is fenced by electricity, and the farmers dogs walk off the leach barking and attacking every single hiker (as apparently alm dogs don’t need to be leached). You want to have a stress free holiday, well stay away from Hintertux, Mayrhofen and the entire rest of the Zillertal (which from an infrastructural point of way is already totally overcrowded). You will find yourself part of a Business plan and not of a hospitality plan paying double to triple the prices then before Covid. Because Austrian farmers and hoteliers believe they can. It for sure changed my mind and am sure also the mind of many disappointed tourists visiting the Zillertal this summer. Austria is no longer the hospitality place with good price quality it used to be. I guess thousands of tourists that are supposed to sit in airplanes next year. Tyrolian Hoteliers have to wake up as they are overstretching it. You can’t fool tourists a second time. You are running on a short term strategy plan. The same happened to Switzerland where tourism
is on the edge of going extinct simply because price quality is no longer there.

Incredible place! You can ski from 3250m to 2600m, the longest slope is probably a bit over 2 km. From 2600m there were five lifts that were on. Maybe the only disappointment was that the gondola that would take you from 2600m to the top was closed so in order to get to the top you need to take a gondola, ride a bit down and take a chair lift.
The views are ridiculously amazing. Felt super strange (in a good way) that there was only a few people with me, maybe a hundred skiers in total. Made me feel like I own this place!
It was quite warm so the snow got slushy and slow after noon so go there early in the morning.

19/01/22 I bought two 59.5 euro tickets in Mayrhofen (Penkenbahn) with plans to ski in "Hintertuxer Gletscher", but when come to it they said that my ticket is not valid and i need to buy another one (+ 2*59.5 euro) so i did it).
On their site, big lightbox near cash desk, different printed material (=everywhere) 1st seller (Mayrhofner Bergbahnen AG) puts "Hintertuxer Gletscher" in the left-up corner so everyone could understand this is included, this one area, but in reality NO and to my mind it is false advertising.
Finally i pay twice for same 119 + 119 euro and the cashier at Penken spoke with the boss and refused the moneyback, turning this case into a chargeback complaint for my bank.
As about connections among "Mayrhofner Bergbahnen AG" and "Hintertuxer Gletscher" owned by "Zillertaler Gletscherbahn GmbH & Co KG" (it partially owned throw Zillertaler Seilbahnen GmbH) so together such "individual ski resorts within Zillertal" took my money twice for ski in one day, and ready for all to keep it.
As about ski - not wort all this, small but not well prepared area and few old ski lifts (+some was stopped)

Went here for a morning of summer skiing. There are a couple of places around the parking lot of the glacier to rent equipment if you don’t have any yourself. A bit crowded when the gondola opened (as everyone wants to enjoy the most of the day). Lots of skiing teams as well. We had a clear day and enjoyed skiing until around lunchtime. Enjoyed ourselves for the day while having lunch on the mountain as well. You do pay full price for the day (almost €50pp) to get up the mountain.

We came up the gondola to walk along a guided hike which was wonderful for families even with small children. There were several points of interest marked up along the trail, with different activities and things to explore - water play, as well as digging for "gems", etc. Beautifully laid out and easily done with a 4-year-old. Really recommended.

I was on a school trip to Austria with 50 students and we had a tour inside the glacier . The ride up to glacier alone is amazing . You have to take three gondolas to get there and it being winter made the view spectacular. Once on 3300m above sea level , some of the students complained of headaches and nausea but that passed after a while. We got a tour inside the glacier from a lovely man called Paolo. The scenes inside were just wow , unlike anything I have ever seen. If you’re in the neighborhood , this is a definite must see. Only thing for me was: our group was way too big and then there was another big group in the glacier. That made it a bit too crowded and we had to wait a long time to see things. Other than that , great experience .

First time to Hintertux and really impressed. Being a glacier area you a pretty guaranteed of having good groomers to ski on regardless of the snowfall. Hintertux did not disappoint and provided plenty of great runs to get the ski legs working and spectacular scenery serviced by trams, gondolas and ski lifts. Great places on the mountain for lunch and re fuelling

We had an amazing skiing experience at Hintertux as its not the peak of the season yet and the slopes were almost empty. It was great that despite this, almost all the lifts were working and the slopes were well maintained. Poor infrastructure of bathrooms (missing on the top)

Hi. Using your lift pass you get access to the train system that links Mayerhofen to Zell Am Ziller. Travel down the valley and have a go on their mountain toboggan! It’s loads of fun and only cost €12.00 per person for 3 goes! There is a restaurant situated almost directly outside of the gondola station overlooking the toboggan which serves the best food mate! It’s very reasonably priced also.
You can swim inside the Hintertux Glacier at this time of year you know! Yes, I said swim. I’ve never done it but our guide, Dominic mentioned it.
The free bus service that you can use on your ski pass is brilliant. Mayerhofen is a big place mate.
In the centre of Mayerhofen there is a most splendid church, it’s ancient and looks beautiful at night when it’s illuminated by coloured spotlights.
There’s a cinema if you want to have an evening of relaxation with your mates and there are literally hundreds of places to eat! Enjoy the glacier, it is stunning and Dom, the guide is such a nice guy!

Hi! I would ask you if there are slopes for begginers to snowboard open during the summer and if it's possible to rent there all snowboard equipment. Thanks!

Yes, you can go skiing in Summer and also rent clothes at Sport Nenner. You should know that skiing is (only) pretty in the early morning.
Olá, durante a noite tem alguma opção para subir na geleira e comer em algum restaurante ou bar? Qual o último horário de retorno do bondinho?

Is this a good place to go for people who can’t ski? Visiting Innsbruck soon and I want to be able to go to places with a lot of snow, however, I am not a skier. Just looking for a place to walk around and take in the scenery.

Hello. Yes that is possible. You can use the lifts to get to the top to enjoy the view and the snow. There is actually an attraction up there - a snow/ice cave that is much easier to see if you are not in skiing boots!
Enjoy your visit and remember to bring warm clothes - winds can be very strong on the top.

Hi, I'm getting conflicting information on their website. Does anyone know if Hintertux is open June 26/27 for ice palace, snow tubing, or skiing?
Also, is there is a separate ski rental fee like in the U.S.,or does this lift ticket include the use of skis? I cannot find any information about this on their website.
Thank you so much for any and all help you can give me! Our trip is already short, and I don't want to waste a day there for nothing if it's closed!

Renting ski equipment and renting a ski pass for the lifts are paid for separately.

Thinking of going to Hintertux with the kids. Are there any blue runs for them? Is it a nice area to stay for a week? Or better to stay in Mayerhofen and go up for the day? Thanks.

Is it worth it to go to the park opening weekend since it probably will be very crowded or is it better to visit a week later ?

Not sure as never having attended the opening. My inclination would be to avoid the crowds (and queues) and go a week later.

I'm planning on going here in a few weeks. Will it be really cold at the top? How much extra does it cost to reach the top with a Zillertal pass? Planning on getting bus from Mayrhofen, is it easy to know where to get off/return??

It is cold at the top the glacier is millions of years old. It was free for the first cable car with an active card, the next 2 cable cars cost €42 for two adults, kids were free.
The bus from Myrhofen train station runs every 30 mins and takes about an hour to get there. It's the last stop so that's easy. Read my review if you want to see the ice cave. Decent footware recommended if you don't want cold feet.
