I went there as a side stop during my ski trip. To see the cave you have to participate in a guided tour, which goes every hour. I did the tour at 11:30am. There is no reservation needed.
I paid 26€ for the basic tour. I could store my skis and poles just next to their office container in the snow. If you want to use a restroom before the tour, note that up there is none (go at Tuxer Fernerhaus restaurant).
My tour had around 20 people and 1 tour guide, who was a cool guy. At 11:30 he led us the way down to the cave. He split up the group into german and english speakers and gave instructions to each group in their language.
We got told that taking pictures and videos is actually forbidden and needs a license (only allowed on the premium foto tour) but he allowed us to take some snapshots.
Its perfectly ok to do the tour with ski boots. The floor inside is mostly covered with rubber mats to avoid slipping. Climbing the small latters on the way was no issue.
Inside, our guide led us do a circuit through the cave on our own. The cave was well lit, with beautiful ice formations.
After completing it, we met back with our guide who got us some background info about the cave and then led us to a second circuit on our own. That one led to an amazing hall of ice.
Then our guide took us on a short boat ride through the underground lake. At our way back to the exit we got an option to crawl on our stomach though a small tunnel (around 15m long) which was exciting. Might not be for claustrophobics.
Our guide also sometimes checked and asked if we are alright and if something's wrong we should adress him.
Arriving at the end he dismissed us and thanked us for our visit. The walk back to the station might exhaust some (steep and high altitude breathing).
Overall it was a cool experience, totally recommand it to everyone. Kids as well as elders.
Its much more interesting and more to see compared to the ice caves on Titlis or Jungfraujoch

Very disapoited as we drove for 2h to come to see the Ice Palace (said to be open 365 days a year) and it was closed do to the weather. Maybe you should put a warning in the website (as many other attractions have) saying that it may not be possible to visit do to weather conditions, and for people to see detailed information before coming all the way.
And we are far to be the only ones complaining about this today. Many more people protesting.

First they didn’t respond to our emails. Then they confirmed that they had us scheduled for a certain time but when we showed up they lost the reservation. We made a new one. When we showed up the next day, they told us that we owed 50 Euros more than originally told, because you have to buy the regular tour to get the photo tour. They do not allow photos on the the regular tour. Incredibly stingy and gross. I wouldn’t recommend giving them your money - put this place out of business.

I cannot believe the negative reviews. We paid at the cabin, got our hard hats then waited 10 minutes for the guide. Yes the walk down was a little steep hence why decent footwear is recommended! The guide escorted us. He spoke in English as well as German throughout. The tour itself lasted an hour and was fascinating and in parts spectacular! Well organized from start to finish! It was expensive for us as we had to buy a lift pass to get there but if you already have a pass then it is worth the money. It is no more expensive than Wookey Hole caves. Inside there are ladders to climb but again it was not difficult. My wife has hardly climbed a ladder in her life but managed with no problem at all. If you want a couple of hours break from the slopes go for It. If you are not skiing wait for a sunny day the views from 10000 feet+ are worth it in themselves. You can see forever!

This is not a "touristy" place and it can be tough for someone. But it's magical just because of this. You buy your tickets in a steel container, get your helmet and the adventure can begin. We were there in winter and the tour started as a "walk" through a snow storm, but only for a couple of minutes - it was hard, but not too much. We felt the power of nature up there. :)
Our tour guide was amazing, he explained and told tun of information in a "nontourguide" way and we remember most of it which is a good sign. :)
We've gone through the tunnels and experienced the glacier as much as one could. You go through narrow tunnels, on slippery stairs and climb several ladders. It's safe but it takes some effort, which makes it feel more real then any other tour I've experienced. :) The short boat trip is just a small final touch.
Do not expect tourist kind of place, no toilets there and you have to make it through the storm, nobody will actually ask you if you feel like doing this or that. But the experience is unforgettable.

At 10,000 feet in the air, there is not much that they can do to be more organized, but expect a complete mess when you arrive at the top of the mountain in peak season. You exit the ski lift and see a tiny hut with a long line of people coming out of it, all waiting for one lady inside to collect the cash. The tours do not begin on time at all, we started 45 minutes late. Our tour was crowded, well over 100 people. We wanted to try swimming, but they told us that with such big crowds that swimming is out of the question. You then have to slip and slide down a snowy area until you can enter the cave. With all of the mess and disorganization though, being inside the cave and seeing the natural wonders inside makes it well worth it. The guide really was useless, as the crowd was too big for him to control or speak to, but he kept things relatively going smoothly. Also, they do not allow photos, which would have been nice to know in advance.
Overall getting to the cave was a big and expensive mess, you can tell the organizers are just looking to cash in as many people as possible on each tour, but totally worth the hassle, and you will leave here very happy that you did this.

The ice caves are beautiful in places but are hard work due to the ladders and slippery surfaces. They are worth the effort. My tip would be to allow a short period to acclimatise when you get to the top and not rush into the ice cave trip first.

Our family visited the Natur Eis Palast on April, 28th. The excursion lasted about 45 minutes and there was no boat trip included (without any explanation, excuse or even discount). Obviously we should complain immediately and ask for money back but in the rarefied air your thinking is a little bit slow… Definitely not worth for 21 EUR in this form!

The coldest warm welcome in Mayerhofen! You MUST visit here! You’ll be greeted by staff called Wally and Dominic. They are two of the nicest people I have ever met! Friendly and chatty and both speak better queens English than me and I’m from Liverpool! Lovely people. Dominic is your tour guide. He is such a nice guy! The glacier tour lasts for approximately an hour. You walk inside the glacier through carved out tunnels, most are man made but some are natural! You climb up and down safety ladders until you reach a depth of over 60 metres. Wear your ski kit including ski boots if you wish! I did. The glacier itself dates back to thousands of years of frozen history with stalactites and stalagmites formed in ice! It’s amazing! The main entrance is approximately a five minute walk across and down a piste. The whole experience does require the individual to be reasonably fit. €21 is the total cost and totally worth it! Thank you Dominic, you made our visit unforgettable and Wally, we will see you in summer when your tour is extended to allow you to swim, boat and kayak inside the glacier. There is a world record attempt planned there in June when a free diver will attempt to dive an extra 50 metres towards the bedrock. All in all, I’ll never forget this experience and I’m confident that you won’t forget it either!

If you go to the Hintertux Glacier to ski or walk, don't miss this unforgettable experience. The trip under the glacier is not for anyone with a fear of heights, though, as it involves climbing up and down ladders and walking up and down icy, but fairly safe stairways. Our guide, Dominic, was very knowledgeable and helpful and Wally, at the booking hut, was welcoming and efficient. A brilliant additional experience when skiing at Hintertux.

Nein. Das geht nur mit Führung. Würde auch aus rein praktischen Gründen nicht gehen.
Die Gänge sind sehr eng und dadurch das man auf Eis läuft ist es unter Umständen auch gefährlich.
