We arrived in time for the 1.00 pm Mass which is in the church attached to the castle. This Mass is just for visitors and there was just us and another couple. The priest asked for a reader (the other couple obliged) and obviously took...More

The castle is very impressive from the outside and extremely interesting if you are keen to know more about Saint Javier, however, internally it has been over restored and has lost something of its atmosphere. It is well worth a visit though. There is also...More

We drove here after seeing it recommended in a guide book. Simple enough to find (albeit after driving on a windy and steep road), with plenty of free parking. The castle is impressively preserved, and was interesting to walk round. There's also an attached church,...More

This monastery/castle contains many religious artefacts and has been well laid out so that you can follow the history of the place. I personally felt it was a bit over preserved and it did not rank in the same league as Veruela or de Piedra...More

Surrounded by mountains there is this castle in the west of Navarre's Kingdom in Spain, a beautiful place to visit, in a nice quiet town, with really nice place to enjoy good food! One of those places you should visit at least once in life...More

We never went inside - maybe for more religious visitors than us. The castle looked newly restored, and from the photos inside our hotel, Xabier, we could see this had once been a wonderful place of life and farming. There are portraits with sheep and...More

This was the second time we visited this reconstructed castle/museum in three years, so were perhaps less attentative this time than the last. One of us being an historian, however, presented several opportunities to expand on the narrative of the Princely family and its Sainted...More

The Castillo De Javier is very interesting. It looks brilliant from the outside, and inside there is a very interesting set of paintings and exhibits. Photos without flash are permitted and there is a nice cafe nearby to sit and enjoy the ambience of the...More
